NetApp, Inc., is a computer storage and data management company specializing in data and storage management solutions for medium to large-size businesses. This past December NetApp made the news in a big way when it launched its all-flash storage array, the EF550. This was especially newsworthy because it’s leading competitor EMC announced just one week earlier that it was releasing it’s version of the array, the Xtremlo. This was not too big of a hit for NetApp, as it has already maintained a presence in the market with the EF550’s predecessor, the EF540. Because of this along with it’s ability to stay on the cutting edge of technology, I believe NetApp will continue to be a top leader in the industry.
Making it’s money by selling storage hardware and storage software to businesses, NetApp's storage hardware helps their customers manage data more efficiently and securely. The disks are used for large, data-intensive applications which include e-mail, inventory, supply chain, backups and regulatory & compliance information. NetApp's storage software allows it’s customers to use many different features related to data storage such as back-up and recovery, replication and retention. NetApp is a Fortune 500 company, was ranked #6 on FORTUNE Magazine’s “100 Best” list, and #3 on the Great Place to Work Institute’s “World’s Best Multinational Workplaces” List. Competing in the data-storage industry and with $6.3 Billion in Revenue, NetApp ranks second in market capitalization in the industry behind only EMC Corporation which is the companies’ number one competitor. Other major competitors of NetApp include IBM, Hitachi, HP, Seagate Technology, and Western Digital. NetApp used Information Systems Technology (IT) very effectively In December, 2013 when it launched its all-flash storage array, the EF550. In an article entitled; “NetApp’s All-Flash Array To Take On EMC In Fast Growing Market”, Trefis Team reports that “The announcement was made a week after competitor EMC launched its own Flash Array, the Xtremlo”. This was significant for NetApp because it already has an earlier version of the flash array, the EF540.
Customers of NetApp can take advantage of simplifing their IT infrastructure, boosting their efficiency and flexibility, and advancing their data centers to support their business’ goals. NetApp complements it’s customers’ data storage solutions with innovative services. These new technologies which NetApp uses to create data and cloud storage solutions is creating a new way for companies to store and protect their data. A new demand is arising by companies worldwide and changing the way of data storage all together. All-flash arrays are storage systems that contain multiple solid state drives instead of spinning hard disks which uses high performance input output per second (IOPS) storage systems which produces a better throughput compared to traditional hard disk drives. NetApp is among the top three data storage companies, along with EMC and IBM, that is switching to all-flash arrays. The rapid growth of Data and cloud storage by companies like NetApp have created a struggle for companies that have not yet transitioned from traditional disk drives. “Storage companies are struggling to achieve the required high performance with the use of traditional hard disk drives in their own data centers. Flash arrays, which are essentially storage systems that contain multiple flash (or solid-state) storage units rather than hard disks, are much more suited to industry requirements. The newly developing flash array market is expected to grow at a 58.5% and to become a $1.2 billion market by 2015, according to International Data Corporation (IDC)”.
Seeing the popularity of EF540 and other E-series products, Trefis Team expects NetApp to grab a significant share in the flash array market going forward. “NetApp’s market share in the overall external storage segment has gone up from 14% last year to 15% this year. A 2% gain in market share in the storage hardware market due to flash array sales by the end of our forecast period could lead to a 4% upside to our $45 valuation of the company. The flash storage array may not immediately impact near-term earnings, but the fast-growing enterprise storage segment could play a vital role in the long run”. Additionally, NetApp is planning to launch its FlashRay solution next year, which is an operating system that minimizes wear for flash arrays and optimizes their performance. In conclusion, NetApp is one of the leading innovators of it’s industry and is continuing to do big things while staying on the cutting edge of technology. The companies launch of it’s second all-flash array along with it’s business model for the future solidifies a spot for NetApp among the top data storage companies in the world. I believe NetApp will continue to be a leader in it’s industry while always working closely with the newest technologies.

However, not many researchers have attempted to capture or review best practices in implementing work-life balance programs. This paper is a humble essay to explore if there are indeed any best practices in implementing work-life balance –a catchphrase which most of the companies love to swear by –and whether a holistic model for efficient work-life balance program can evolve from what the companies at the top are following on the ground. The authors have also tried to present a critique of gaps in current work-life balance programs. ...The False Claims Act: NetApp and GSA Vernessa L. Minnifield Dr. Canuto Campos LEG 505 Abstract The company, Network Appliance Inc., also known as NetApp, paid the government $128 million to settle allegations it overcharged GSA customers for information technology products. The case alleged that NetApp did not give accurate information about discounts offered to commercial customers. Under federal rules, companies are required to disclose how much commercial customers pay to ensure that GSA can negotiate the lowest price for the government. This paper will provide an ethical analysis of the case, identify contributing factors, and recommend corrective actions for the issues addressed. The False Claims Act The False Claims Act is an important tool for U.S. taxpayers. It is used to recover monies stolen through fraud by government contractors. Under the False Claims Act, 31 U.S.C. §§ 3729-3733, those who knowingly submit, or cause another person to submit, false claims for payment of government funds are liable for three times the government’s damages plus civil penalties of $5,500 to $11,000 per false claim (TAF, 2011). The act imposes liability on any person who (1) submits a claim to the federal government that he or she knows is false, (2) knowingly submits a false record in order to obtain payment from the government, or (3) obtains money from the government to which he or she may not be entitled and then uses false statements in order to retain the money...

RUN’s strategy for business growth is focused on winning new customers from outside the financial services industry, and introducing new services in response to market demand. In order to support more customers and services, however, RUN needed to review its approach to data center planning, design, and management. “Capacity was one problem: we were running out of resources and needed to purchase additional hardware,” says Werth. “Efficiency was another issue: we had too many servers for the services we were running, with very low server utilization levels.” RUN was operating two data centers in different locations, using NetApp MetroCluster protection software to create a mirrored environment based on two physical servers at each site for full redundancy. In total, the company was running about 20 physical servers and 60 virtualized machines, and there were dedicated servers for some services and customers, including the two founding banks,...

Leadership

...Are leaders made or born? Kevin Daniel Velazquez Vega 6 A 11/02/14 A leader is a person that leads, they have a vision, but not just that, a lot of people can have vision, but what makes a person a leader is that they act, they take actions and do everything necessary to achieve their gold by commanding a group of persons that trusts him; but what makes a person a leader? Where they born that way? Or what did they did in order to become one? There are different genetic combinations that can give a person advantage over other individuals, there are different genetic studies that had been done on persons that have the characteristic of being a leader, in the University College London, scientist discovered that leaders have a gene called RS4950, that gen was highly available on leaders, therefore some people believe that you were born to be a leader. It’s believed that leader are born with certain characteristics that made them a better prospect to become one, but in order to make those skills stronger you need to train them, if you don’t step up and train those characteristics, you will lose them, therefor you can be born with them, but you don’t work hard to keep them and exercise them, you won’t become a leader, so leaders can be made, not born. You can also develop skills and traits to become a leader, you can adapt your brain to act like a leader, your body will be used to have that attitude, to solve any kind of problem and to be an inspiration to people, there...

Ciss 301

...1. Seek and Search are often confused simply because in the English language, they mean the same things or are synonyms. The problem with this is that in Computer terms, Programming Languages and so forth, the concepts are often so complex as to take on different meanings Seek time is “The time required to position the read/write head on the proper track from the time the I/O request is issued,” (McHoes, Flynn 552). Search time differs in that it is “The time it takes to rotate the drum or disk from the moment an I/O command is issued until the requested record is moved under the read/write head,” (McHoes, Flynn 552). 8. The one I would choose is C-LOOK, which is similar to the Circular Scan (S-SCAN). C-LOOK reduces the movement of the R/Heads but rather than continuing past its last request, it goes no further. This can greatly reduce the amount of time needed for the particular item. This reduction in time means a greater degree of efficiency on the part of the system, ensuring the greatest number of users or requests are serviced, rather than letting jobs and requests clog up. 10. The majority of reasons why computer terms are confused is because most users will not or cannot take the time to learn the proper terms and their meaning. Couple this with the fact that not every one who is an expert is of the mind or ability to correct those they encounter, then the situation merely perpetuates and in some cases compounds. A perfect example of this is a recent situation...
