..."That it will never come again," by Emily Dickinson, explores the idea that life is beautiful and people should enjoy it while it lasts. Dickinson feels that since life only happens once explains why it "makes life so sweet." The poem then shifts the idea to that death feels like an "appetite/ Precisely opposite." In the poem, the poet conveys the message that people should appreciate life by using sound devices and metaphors. In the first stanza, the poet utilizes sound devices to create the effect of life being "sweet." Dickinson's method of alliteration and repetition in line three "Believing in what we don't believe," fabricates the significance of life being delightful by making the poem have a mellifluous sound. The poet uses the technique of consonance in line five "That if it be, it be at best," to elaborate on the overall meaning of the poem by creating a harmonic effect. The use of sound devices helps the reader understand that life is a pleasant experience by constructing a delectable sound. The poet then shifts the poem through the regulation of a metaphor. Dickinson states that the experience transitions to in line six to an "ablative estate." This demonstrates the alteration from life to a different state metaphorically meaning death. The poet gets the point across that life does come to an end and it will make a person realize that life is a one time only experience. Dickinson portrays the message that death "instigates an appetite/ Precisely opposite," which...

...Arctic Mining Consultants (Case Study) Tom Parker enjoyed working outdoors. At various times in the past, he worked as a ranch hand, high steel rigger, headstone installer, prospector, and geological field technician. Now 43, Parker is a geological field technician and field coordinator with Arctic Mining Consultants. He has specialized knowledge and experience in all nontechnical aspects of mineral exploration, including claim staking, line cutting and grid installation, soil sampling, prospecting, and trenching. He is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising field assistants for all of Arctic Mining Consultants' programs. Field assistants are paid a fairly low daily wage (no matter how long they work, which may be up to 12 hours or more) but are provided meals and accommodation. Many of the programs are operated by a project manager who reports to Parker. Parker sometimes acts as a project manager , as he did on a job that involved staking 15 claims near Eagle Lake, Alaska. He selected John Talbot, Greg Boyce, and Brian Millar, all of whom had previously worked with Parker, as the field assistants. To stake a claim, the project team marks a line with flagging tape and blazes along the perimeter of the claim, cutting a claim post every 500 yards (called a length). The 15 claims would require almost 60 miles of line in total. Parker had budgeted seven days (plus mobilization and demobilization) to complete the job. This meant that each of the four stakers (Parker, Talbot...

...staff—specifically John Blank, the Jewish employees and the Christian employees particularly, and the HR person or department. As the owner of the agency, Ed Harrison is affected. Due to the small size of the firm, he will ultimately be involved in the incident between Blank and the born-again Christian. If the company had been bigger, Harrison may not have heard about this issue if it was resolved through HR or another party. John Blank is clearly affected as he is offended by the religious screen saver of another employee. He claims that the other Jewish employees are also offended—though a first hand account from them is not provided. Consequently, Blank has spoken with the born-again Christian—and has not yet resolved the matter. Thus, this employee is now too affected. This can potentially lead to a clash between the religions 2) What are the likely consequences? Though a discussion of how HR should handle this scenario will be followed shortly, consequences that I can talk about now are any of those actions that will lead to resolvment. Not all people can always be happy. In this scenario, the best thing to do is whatever causes the least bit of disruption to the workflow. Again due to the small nature, and lack of privacy at the firm, this issue is one that may need to gt fixed fast—which can lead to hasty solutions that will not...

...Unit 2 Narratives Assignment Tammy Rich Kaplan University HU300 – 01 The story that I have chosen is “The Tortoise and the Hare”. The story is about a hare and a tortoise who were good friends. The hare would boast of his speed and the tortoise one day challenged his friend in a race. The confident hare took it easy, but the tortoise ran steadily, and he won the race (Saloni, 2012) The moral of this story is that even if it seems that you are not the quickest or the best at a particular task that may not be the case. If you do your best from the beginning to the end and you will know where you stand. It may prove that someone who seems more skilled at something may not be and slow and steady wins the race (Saloni, 2012). In the fable “The Tortoise and the Hare”, the writers’ concentration isn’t on the Tortoise’s confident in taking on a bully such as the Hare, but emphasizes the foolishness of the Hare’s over-confidence. Growing up hearing this story, I now realize that many people have good natural abilities in regards to race, size, and statues; not knowing what our opponent is capable of. Just as in “The Tortoise and the Hare”, the hare from the start is confident of his ability to defeat the tortoise because of his characteristics and abilities. Thinking his hasting would cause him to get ahead, the hare finds himself behind. A wise man once said “haste makes waste” and in this case it is so true (Milleray, 2013). Storytelling has long held an important role...

...The Four Musicians of Bremen In the story a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster, all past their prime years in life and usefulness on their respective farms, were soon to be discarded or mistreated by their masters. One by one they leave their homes and set out together. They decide to go to Bremen, known for its freedom, to live without owners and become musicians there. On the way to Bremen, they see a lighted cottage; they look inside and see four robbers enjoying their ill-gotten gains. Standing on each others backs, they decide to perform for the men in hope of gaining food. Their 'music' has an unanticipated effect; the men run for their lives, not knowing what the strange sound is. The animals take possession of the house, eat a good meal, and settle in for the evening. Later that night, the robbers return and send one of their members in to investigate. It is dark and he sees the eyes of the Cat shining in the darkness. He reaches over to light his candle, thinking he sees the coals of the fire. Things happen in quick succession; the Cat swipes his face with her claws, the Donkey picks up his hooves and kicks him, the Dog bites him on the leg, and the Rooster crows and chases him out the door, screaming. He tells his companions that he was beset by a horrible witch who scratched him with her long fingers (the Cat), a man with a knife (the Dog), a monster who had hit him with a club (the Donkey), and worst of all, the devil who screamed from the rooftop (the Rooster)...

...FEAR: an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous. In his book Never Cry Wolf (1963) the author, Mowat Farley is showing us a different side to the wolves. At the beginning of the book Mowat hears lots of rumors about the wolves through the people in Churchill giving him a natural fear of the wolves. As he continued his exploration of the Canadian North and his study of the relationship between caribou and wolves he learned more than he could ever imagine. To show his knowledge of the wolves he used the rhetorical strategies pathos to appeal to humor and personification. First, In the book Mowat uses pathos to show us the wolves innocence. He starts off by giving us the emotion of fear. When Mowat...

...BE CONTRIBUTIVE TO THE SOCIETY In our to day’s life, some people never cared about, what the outcome might be when they take their decisions. What will they do to live a peaceful life? What will they contribute to the society? Whether positively or negatively? While other people are the types that are always conscious about, what the outcome might be, when I make this decision? What will they do to live a peaceful life? What they will contribute to the development of the society? John wooden said “the only pressure that amounts to a hill of beans is the pressure you put on yourself. So i don’t worry about outside pressures. But if I don’t put pressure on myself to do the best job I’m capable of doing, then I’m cheating everybody, including myself”. When one is conscious about the life he or she is living, it affects the person behaviour towards the way he dresses, talks, eats, makes friends and even when it comes to choose whom to marry or not. He founds out that he is responsible for every action or decision taken by him and that every success or failure made today is attributed to him. He sees himself as a winner not a whiner. A winner always progress and accept responsibility while a whiner makes excuses and blames others. Winner produces regardless of the situation because he is a master of circumstances. One question that one should ask his or herself at any point in time is: what I’m I to my society; a contributor or a consumer? Are you the type of person that...

...Textual Analysis Coursework Essay For this essay I shall be comparing Skyfall (2012) to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) both in the spy genre of films. I will be focusing on the way both films portray the differences in roles between male and female characters. I chose Skyfall from the 007 series; due to the fact M (Judi Dench) plays a more significant role within the film. It also takes a different approach on the character of Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris), as she is shown doing fieldwork alongside Bond (Daniel Craig) at the start of the film. Of course like any other Bond film, Skyfall also includes women who 007 will form a ‘relationship’ with (normally ending in their demise). I will be discussing if women in Skyfall are shown in a stereotypical and perhaps borderline sexiest way. My other choice of film, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol also stars female characters, although they have a more predominant role throughout the film then Skyfall. One of Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) team members is Jane (Paula Patton) and she is one of the main leading characters. Till around halfway in the film, a primary antagonist is Sabine Moreau (Lea Seydoux). It could still be said that these two characters, despite having a big role within the film, have been somewhat subjected to being portrayed in an idealistic way of women throughout the film. Skyfall is the 23rd instalment in the 007 franchises and was released on October 23th 2012. A new director on the Bond scene directed...

...trying to rid whatever was giving me this ill feeling. Once I finished I wiped the sweat off my forehead and laid back against my cold tub. It felt good against my warm skin. I removed my sweat drenched shirt and just laid against the tile floor. I have never experience such pain and nausea in my life. I didn’t want to think about the many possibilities that could be wrong with me. "Ki you alright?" asked my eight year old brother behind my bathroom door. "Yes boo just go get me a bottle of water." I could hear him scurrying off down the stairs to the kitchen. I tried my best to stand up but I just felt too weak. All of a sudden my body grew very tired and I couldn’t get my body to move. I heard my door open and a scream. "Mom, Dad hurry!" yelled my brother Jasone. I didn’t understand why he was screaming until I followed his horrified eyes down to my floor and there was blood everywhere. I slowly reached up to touch my nose and I felt the blood all over my hands and I knew something was definitely wrong. My brother rushed over to me and held my head in his lap as he cried. I tried to reach up and touch him but it all hurt too much. "Lord please I’m not ready to die." I said to myself. "Mom!!" my brother cried out again. "Jasone what is you doing in your sister room and screaming on-" she couldn’t continue her sentence as she saw the scene in front of her. "Don Don hurry!" She quickly rushed over to me and held my head from Jasone. "Baby what wrong where do it hurt?"...

...In January 2008 a British journalist, Sarfraz Manzoor, wrote an article with the title “Me, Me, Me” that appeared in the magazine “Esquire”. He gives his opinion on how the phenomenon “New Narcissism” has its influences on today’s society through the Internet. And he leaves us with the impression that there is a reason to be worried about today's youth being more narcissistic than ever before. Narcissism is not new for us. New Narcissism is a modern version of the phenomenon narcissism. And it has been known since ancient Greece with the Greek myth about Narcissus that fell in love with his own reflection in the water. The man that got narcissism recognized as a medical condition was Sigmund Freud (l. 53). But in our age, the word, narcissism, does not seem that serious and is mostly defined as a phenomenon. This New Narcissism has come to life because society reproduces itself (l. 59). And growing numbers of people are more narcissistic according to a study performed by psychologists. Sarfraz Manzoor, who has written this article, describes that New Narcissism is the offspring of today’s society. He makes an example by including a person named Chris Crocker. Crocker became famous because he put a video on the Internet where he defended the celebrity Britney Spears. There can be two reasons for his behaviour. Is he doing this to tell people that they shall back off and because he is fond of her? Or is he doing this to get attention? But it does not seem as if Britney is the...
