The New Era of Cars

...Tyler Gates Robotics Essay The New Era of Cars An autonomous car, also known as a self-driving car or robotic car, is an autonomous vehicle capable of fulfilling the main transportation capabilities of a traditional car. As an autonomous vehicle, it is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human input. Autonomous vehicles sense their surroundings with such techniques as radar, LIDAR, GPS, Odometry, and computer vision. Advanced control systems interpret sensory information to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage. By definition, autonomous vehicles are capable of updating their maps based on sensory input, allowing the vehicles to keep track of their position even when conditions change or when they enter uncharted environments. Autonomous cars have control systems that are capable of analyzing sensory data to distinguish between different objects on the road, which is very useful in planning a path to the desired destination. Google’s self-driving car is any in a range of autonomous cars, developed by Google X as part of its project to develop technology for mainly electric cars. The software installed in Google's cars is called Google Chauffeur. Lettering on the side of each car identifies it as a "self-driving car". The project was formerly led by Sebastian Thrun, former director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and co-inventor of Google Street View. Thrun's team at Stanford created the robotic...

Buying My New Car

...Buying My First Sports Car Joel Wood Communications 170 03/19/2012 Rhonda Herb Going fast has been something I have loved all my life. All thru out my child hood I dreamed of getting myself a brand-new sports car. Both the GM Corvette and the Dodge Viper are both absolutely awesome options for such a decision. Even with both being so great it still took me doing a lot of research of both my personal situations and the different options that each vehicle offers to allow me to narrow it down to one. They both offer such a precision vehicle that it literally took going into much greater detail with the vehicles just to make the final decision. With all that being said I will further this story by elaborating why the GM Corvette is an all-around better buy for one in a similar condition as myself. The biggest thing I took into consideration was the overall performance of the vehicles, especially since we are talking sports cars. The Dodge Viper comes with and engine that uses ten cylinders which equals massive performance but it is also a whole lot more maintenance and up keep. The GM Corvette only offers 8 cylinders in which is obviously two less but, even with only eight cylinders it still offers massive amounts of horse power. Obviously the added two cylinders of the Dodge Viper will offer more performance but with more performance also comes a lot more money spent. The added price variation just for a little bit...

New Cars

...reshaped our way of life. We are now able to go farther distances in shorter periods of time than ever before. Yet with every great invention is the product that is a step above the rest. What I am talking about is luxury cars. Luxury cars have been around since about the same day as any other automobile. What makes them a step above the rest? Are they really worth that extra money? Or are they just a social symbol to show your amount of wealth. If you had no financial restrictions which car would you choose? There are two major classes of cars in todays world. They are the luxury cars which are made up mainly of Mercedes and BMW and the economy cars made up mostly of Honda, Toyota, General Motors, and Ford. There is a very larger price difference between these two classes of cars. What your paying for in an economy car is to get you from point A to point B in a little bit of comfort. In a luxury car you are paying for performance, safety, more advanced technology, and superior design. These qualities are needed for the car to be considered good but they increase the drivers quality, comfort and luxury wherever they are driving. Many economy car companies attempt to replicate the look and feel of many luxury cars. Which usually results in a failure. This is true because in order to compete with the luxury...

...leader in the used car industry. However complications have emerged as a result of duplicators attempting to copy their “no hassle offers” in the highly competitive used car market. Therefore, CarMax’s primary concern is staying ahead of the competition and eliminating threats from potential future disruptions from competitors. Therefore the key question we will try to answer in this analysis of the CarMax case is, can CarMax continue to grow successfully given the threat of new competitors entering the market? After thorough analysis of the situation, our team has come up with a series of recommendations that will allow CarMax to remain competitive in the market in the midst of growing threats form new competitors. First CarMax should expand the Parts and Service Department by offering attractive bundles to customers when purchasing cars such as service a service add on. This will CarMax gain additional market share by allowing them to become a one stop shop for car issues, incentivizing repeat customers and increasing the lifetime value of each customer. In addition, CarMax can build a mobile application that allows customers to make purchases. This move will help CarMax reach a wider audience, enhance customer experiences, and avoid having to incur additional costs associated with hiring and training new salespersons. Purchase of New Car

...The Purchase of a New Car In purchasing a new car there are going to be plenty of factors that could possibly cause change in supply and demand. When national income falls, the demand for automobiles falls. When it is rising, so is the demand for autos. When the price of fuel rises, the demand for automobiles also falls a bit. In addition, factors such as the price of another automobile will shift the demand for a car, improvements in technology will increase the supply of automobiles, increase in the price of tires, steel, rubber, engines or any other component of the car will cause a decrease in demand for automobiles. There are many different things that can affect the supply and demand for cars. When the price of gas gets to be a certain level consumers will find substitutes for driving or for using their vehicles. With the price of gas approaching $4 a gallon, more commuters are abandoning their cars and taking the train or bus instead. Some of them will opt to take motorcycle only because there is less gas that is going to be used, but they still have to purchase some fuel. Mass transit systems around the country such as Marta, are seeing standing-room-only crowds on bus lines where seats were once easy to come by. Parking lots at many bus and light rail stations are suddenly overflowing, with commuters in some towns risking a ticket or tow by parking on nearby grassy areas and in vacant lots. If the commuter lived close enough to their place of work...

Buying a New Car

...Buying a New Car XECO/212 Principles of Economics April 1, 2012 Buying a new car is fun and exciting but there are many factors in today’s market that are affecting those who want to purchase a new car. Not only are fuel prices incredibly high and expected to go higher based on tensions in the Middle East, employment is looking up but many are still without jobs or enough income to purchase a new vehicle. There are a few car makers that understand those looking for an economic vehicle that gets great gas mileage. Some of the factors that could cause possible changes in the supply and demand of a new car are again unemployment. This affects demand more than anything. If you do not have income to pay for a new vehicle the demand is down and probably the supply as well. High fuel prices are also affecting the supply and demand of new cars. The demand for fuel efficient vehicles is on the rise again. When gas prices increased a few years ago, people started trading in or selling their gas guzzling SUV’s. People still wanted to drive SUV’s but didn’t want to pay the price at the pump. This lead car manufacturers to develop fuel efficient SUV’s to counteract the effects of the high per gallon price of gasoline. Also the price of competitor’s vehicles for similar types of cars can affect the supply and demand of a particular vehicle. If I were looking to buy a new Buick Enclave knowing the average MPG for city is 17 and highway is 24 www.fueleconomy.gov , I would...

Decide whether this court should hear this case or dismiss the case and direct the parties to binding arbitration in accordance with the Retail Buyer’s Order. Support your response. An alternative dispute resolution is any formal or informal process used to settle disputes without resorting to a trial. New Car Purchase

...Consumer Problem-solving activity: New car purchase Problem Recognition Problem recognition is comparing a person’s ideal situation against actual. Recently, my family has been considering whether our current car is meeting the needs of our family of 5. The kids are getting older and are involved in sports and music that require more transportation space for sports gear, musical instruments and the need for more “elbow” space. We would like to go on road trips for family vacations and visit family members who live hours away. Having an extra vehicle will certainly make it easier for both parents to take the kids to their activities especially when drop off and pick up time is the same for different kids. Keeping the current vehicle and purchasing a minivan will meet the family needs in different capacities. Information Search In recognizing this problem, I spoke with friends and relatives who already own a minivan. Some parents who I have met through sport teams have expressed what a great difference a minivan has made in their family lifestyle and comfort. They expressed that the space, safety and convenience in having a minivan is certainly worth it for any family. All expressed that “stow ‘n go” in their minivan has been of great convenience and offered to even demonstrate the features to my wife and I. My very close friend in Montreal uses his Dodge Grand Caravan for the same reason I would need a minivan and is thrilled that his family of six can go on long trips...

Supply and Demand

...for used car versus new cars. The supply and demand for used car continue to increase. We see a trend from 1995 to 1999 and again from 2009-2010 (2011 not release yet) for used car sales increased. Increase in demand due to high gas prices and the short supply of Japanese small new cars. We find a significant demand response, as nearly half of the decline in sales of U.S. manufacturers from 2002-2010 was due to the increase in gasoline prices. On the other hand, a gasoline tax increase would have a modest effect on average fuel efficiency. The effect of prices of used cars on the demand for new cars are mixed, customers are looking for more efficient cars, and less payments. The recession in the United States is driving more costumers to buy used cars since they are more affordable; also the earthquake in Japan created a short supply for small cars in the market, bringing more opportunity for the used car to be in demand. One thing to keep in mind because of the demand for small cars and compact cars is rising, the dealerships are selling used cars for more than their actual MSRP, and the customers are buying them, therefore moving the economy in the right direction. We the used car prices increasing and Japan being able to continue manufacturing small and compact cars, customers are beginning to lining more and more for new cars. We the high prices of gasoline, the used car mind set is changing creating a demand for more small, compact and gas efficient cars.. More fuel...

...Abstract You are interested in buying a new car and Bob lets you borrow one of the new cars on his lot for a week to test drive. You decide you like the car and when you visit Bob to drop off the car, he hands you the following document and a pen May 1, 201x I promise to pay to the order of Bob's Auto Emporium $20,000 (Twenty thousand dollars) with interest at the rate of 7% per annum. What type of instrument is this? Does this instrument meet the requirements for negotiability under the UCC? INDIVIDUAL WORK The above example is a partial Promissory Note. The reason that it is a partial promissory note is because the document is missing key values to become a full legal document. The above example does not state all the requirements that need to be meant as the payments are being made. It also does not have the time frame for which the payments are to be received and the time frame to pay the balance in full. The example does not meet the requirements of the UCC due to it does not list what will happen if the payments are not made. The documents also does not state how the payments are to be made and how the payments will be broken down with the interest that is going to be paid for the purchase. The document also does not have the full date that the documents was created. The document would also need to be signed by the owner of the car company which will state that he agrees with the term of the promissory note. The way that the document is worded there is no...

Old Rusty Case Narrative Notes

...management role and not to be involved in the day-to-day operations of the dealership. The profits of the dealership were fundamentally important to Rusty’s future lifestyle. As the founding owner of the dealership in 1968, he had seen the dealership grow to the current sales level of approximately 600 new cars and 600 used cars annually. His service facility has also expanded to 18 service bays. In Rusty’s opinion his long standing policy of emphasizing new car sales as the principle business of the dealership had lead to the growth. He also attributed this to developing the customers and playing close attention to the customer’s needs. Most customers both new and used had returned to the dealership several times to make additional purchases. The latest income statement is shown in the exhibit along with an analysis of the service department expenses. To accomplish semi-retirement Rusty needed to make organizational changes. Talking with his daughter, a recent Laurier MBA graduate, he felt that the profit centre approach would best fit his requirements. Thus the dealership was divided into three profit centres. The new cars sales department was to be run by Sue Me, the used car sales department by Le Mon and the service department by Otto Baun. All of these people had been key players at the dealership for the past ten years. Each manager was told to run their department as if it was an independent business. Under the profit centre approach each manager would receive their...

Aero

...States. In this brief, we will look at the risk/reward of each strategy, how to use the existing Aero brand and following in the United States, and my overall recommendation. If it is decided to go-it-alone, Aero Motors will effectively be starting from scratch. Although extremely popular in the European and Asian markets, Aero is not a well-known entity in the U.S. Not only will we be tapping into a new market, but it is a new product line. Advertising and promotion will be vital, as will the necessary market research initially. A support service to service the cars in North America will have to be established, along with proper distribution channels. This will not be cheap. A large investment will have to take place, and it will also take time to implement a competitive marketing strategy to reach our intended audience. Since we only have a limited window (2 years) to maximize our current technology advantage over our competitors this makes it a risky proposition. Going-it-alone will give Aero Motors full control over all aspects of introducing the new cars from start to finish. We can decide what markets to enter, and have creative control over our advertising campaign. We get to keep our current technology advantage amongst ourselves. Upfront costs and investments will be costly for the first couple years, but Aero Motors will reap all the long-term benefits. Establishing a strong brand is our primary objective, and partnering with a U.S. based company will...
