As a lawyer, I would like to do pro bono work in poor areas. In that position, those who may not afford adequate representation in court and can receive the proper counsel. I have no interest in working for a big law firm because it will not allow me to work with poorer Americans. Many people pursue a career in law because of the potentially high salary, but I am passionate about serving the areas that makeup my community. Becoming a lawyer involves helping and leading others and throughout my high school career, I have lived by these qualities. My involvement in the Beta Club has taught me how to be an effective leader. Having been elected North Carolina and National Beta Club Secretary, many Betas from around the country have trusted me to lead. The four pillars of the Beta Club are: Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have been prepared to lead, wether it is in the community, or when I am practicing law in a courtroom. I have participated in Student Government since freshman year of high school, I have had the opportunity to represent my graduating class as their President for three years when

In my earlier life, I never thought I would come to US for my master of engineering, work as an electrical engineer at Force10networks (it was acquired by DELL recently), and now pursue an MBA. My past accomplishments that have prepared me for the W.P. Carey MBA include teaching mathematics in Taiwan, coming to US to improve myself, earning my engineering masters at the University of Arizona, and working as electrical design engineer at force10networks. Before I came to US, I had taught mathematics from high school level to college calculus for seven years. The reason that I like teaching is I like to sense students’ issues of learning mathematics. Penta is a vocational school located in Perrysburg Ohio, that offers programs ranging from cosmetology to welding. Popular programs include automotive technology, masonry, culinary arts, dental assisting, early childhood education, floral design, public safety, and small animal care. And these are just few of the many programs here at Penta. Oak Harbor is my home school, and I came to Penta my junior year to attend Medical Technologies. I plan to return to Penta for my senior year as well! I chose to come to Penta because I wanted to get a headstart in the medical field. I knew that being in Medical Technologies would help me pursue my future career of becoming a licensed dermatologist. One of the things I enjoy here at Penta, is that we operate on block schedule. Block scheduling gives me a good idea of what college will be like. Penta also gives me the opportunity to participate and compete in student organizations, such as HOSA and SkillsUSA. HOSA is an organization dedicated to educating future healthcare professionals. The web defines SkillsUSA as “.. a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. When I was in high school, I often long to know what will my future laid. I often wonder what will I become or what will I have done. I also wonder how will I be able to adapt to the label as a “college student”. About eight weeks ago, I arrived to CSUN ( California State University of Northridge) as a college student, no longer a high student or a visitor, and I felt nervous but excited to see what does CSUN have to provide for me. Eight weeks went by fast, and now when I write this essay, I look back those wonderful eight weeks seem so yesterday. I met a lot of new faces, new names and I still cant remember all of their names because I've met SO many people in eight weeks. I discovered a whole new environment, new places, and a whole new journey for me. I learned how to deal with my roommates, learned how to adapt with them and work as a teamwork. I learned how to manage my time with social time and my education time. I learned that the classes are simple but yet hard. I learned how to deal with teachers, students and interpreter. Most of all, I enjoyed a lot being here as a CSUN student. Back in high school, I went to a mainstream school, Poly High...

Assess the Importance of a College Education

...Include a short essay of no more than 300-600 words assessing the importance of a college education in achieving your personal goals or personal circumstances which could hinder you from achieving your goals. The great Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.” I have always felt like this quote stands true in my life. Since my days as a young child, I have repeatedly been told that education will create an extremely bright future full of wonderful opportunities to grow and shine among others. When the opportunity to apply and enroll for college came about, I was more than ready to take on the challenges it had to offer. Being the first woman on my Mother’s side, and the second woman on my Father’s side to go to college was something I wanted to do, not only for myself but also for my family. To me, a higher education isn’t just getting a bachelor’s degree and a diploma after four years, it’s about growing as an individual and preparing to be the best you can be in any field that you are placed into. Receiving this education is going to be the most significant and imperative step in achieving my goals. I want to set a new pathway for the women to come in my family, showing them that being a well-educated female is a powerful tool in the world. Upon being blessed with so much pride and happiness from my family members, I will set out to be the absolute best I can be in an agriculture-based career...

Personal Responsibility and College Success Final Draft

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Angela A. Guzman University of Phoenix Personal Responsibility and College Success Being a mother of two while going to school can be overwhelming. Daily tasks such as taking care of my two girls, house chores, and balancing school work is hard to squeeze into a day unless you learn to manage your time wisely. In order to manage your time wisely you must take charge of your actions by practicing self-discipline. Making the right choices can lead to many rewards, but holding yourself accountable for failures will help you make better decisions in the future (Haskins, 2009). Time management, self-discipline, and accountability all comes down to personal responsibility. In my opinion, personal responsibility is setting an attainable goal, taking the actions needed to reach your goal, and holding yourself accountable for those actions. In short, personal responsibility is the key to college success. Self-discipline Planning to go to college is a big step that requires a lot of self-discipline. Self-discipline is about setting attainable goals and being able to follow through until reaching said goals. Setting attainable goals will help you succeed. Attempting goals that are unattainable not only sets you up for failure, but will discourage you from setting new goals in the future. Using a planning strategy of taking a long-term goal and breaking it up into short-term goals will keep you on track (Ellis, 2010). Most people...

My English Composition Course Analysis

...My Final Self Reflections on My English Composition Course Learning new things in every semester is always fascinating for me. It is very important for a student to judge his/her skill at the end of a course by going over from the beginning to the end of his/her experience on the particular course which will help one to understand what was his/her mistake, how he/she could improve it, what would be better for him/her in the future and most important what should be his/her first priority. This semester was very changing for me. From my experience it is very surprising for me to review my English composition course this semester. At the beginning of this semester I realized how important it is to manage time for all the courses I was taking. It was very difficult for me to set time according to the priority of each course. In order to do all my assignments on time I decided to make my own calendar although I had accessibility for the Canvas calendar which helped me a lot to make proper use of my time. As time goes by I realized I have to change...

Why College Is Important

...Assignment 1 “Why college education is important to me” Achieving Academic Excellence February 6th, 2014 The purpose of this essay is to show the importance of a college education and to provide many reasons why a college education would be important to me. I will incorporate a few quoted references along with some statistical data and my personal opinion. About twenty years ago I couldn’t give an answer to “why college is important to me”. I did enroll in a college and lasted about three semesters. I didn’t do well in many of my classes because I had poor study habits, lacked maturity, was never really focused, and just didn’t have any real motivation and goals set for myself. I never really gave it much thought. The point is I just didn’t take advantage of what college would mean to me and to my future. I wanted to enter the work force right away because I thought that I could land a good job without a college education. After fifteen years of doing different jobs and not making enough money to support a family on my own, I was finally at a crossroads. What am I going to do with my life? Do I continue to struggle? Those were really good questions. I realized that it wasn’t possible to land good jobs without better knowledge and the only way possible is to go back to school. I did some soul searching and came to the conclusion that if I am going to achieve something in this life and qualify for many positions then I must go back to college and work very hard for a degree...

Kwame Anthony Appiah Analysis

...Portfolio Essay Most people go to college to cultivate and discover their passion in life and build their knowledge. Student will experience two ideas during college one is Utility U, which gets things done mentally without learning the subject. The other vision is Utopia U that builds the morals and ethics of the students. However, Kwame Anthony Appiah the author of “What is the point of College,” tells that Utility U and Utopia U, “leads to very different metrics of success” but his students have a different observation than what Appiah states so which one is better for the universities to use and for the students’ to become successful in the future. The students’ Appiah refers to in his article, “What is the Point of College?” state that “They learned that what you can do and who you can be-- the qualities of your skills and of your soul--are two separate questions...

Aim High

...Aim High Allison Reid Saint Joseph’s College William Zinsser’s essay, “The Right to Fail,” is a dangerous article for young people to read. It discusses how he believes that children and adolescents have too much pressure on them to succeed by attaining an education. Zinsser goes on to send the message that it is okay to quit and become a free thinker. He states, in the beginning of it, that, “for the young, dropping out is often a way of dropping in” (Zinsser, 1967). I think that to encourage the youth of tomorrow to not pursue an education is irresponsible. I disagree with Zinsser because I have been that “drop out” and it is a hard road to follow. This great country we live in provides everyone the opportunity to succeed. Zinsser is trying to downplay “go get ‘em” attitude that Americans are so well known for. He is encouraging people to be just average. We are nothing without a dream, a goal, or a vision of our future that is better. Zinsser says, “We need mavericks and dissenters and dreamers far more than we need junior vice-presidents, but we paralyze them by insisting that every step be a step up to the next rung of the ladder” (Zinsser, 1967). This statement from Zinsser says to me that it is more important to dream than to do. I think it is important to dream about what you want to do, set your goals, and go out and achieve them. An education is a great way to do this. From the day you start kindergarten, a framework for success is being laid...
