New England Cottontail Threats

One of the main threats to the cottontail is its loss of habitat. They’re losing places to find food, raise their young and escape predators. People have built on much of the land the cottontails used to inhabit, as well as much more wildlife that is now endangered. People are at the main root of the New England Cotton Tails being endangered. No matter how much we try to deny it, it’s true. We’ve built on their land, tore it down and kicked them out. Many young forests have grown into middle-aged and older woods, where rabbits don’t usually live. Today because of many changes and loss of their habitat, they have been restricted to coastal Southwestern Maine, Southeastern New Hampshire, and parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island
