...11/5/14 U.S History 2 Essay A New Start My name is Maria, I was fifteen when my mother and I moved out of Italy. We left for the safety of eachother. We took A ship to Ellis Island where we then lived our lives as Americans. Before we left Italy in 1890, we had to pack everything we had up or leave it all behind. It was very difficult to leave out homeland but we had to get away from war zones and the financial issues that were going through Europe. Once we got to the ship we payed twelve dollars each ticket. Obviously I was nervous, everyone was crowded trying to board the ship. I lost my mother at one point, but we met back up at the pole on the dock. I never felt happier. The journey was dreadful. It was full of disease and sickness. My mother told me to stay away from the passengers that were coughing. It took a while to get used to the ship. It was very dark and it had a harsh smell in the steerage. I tried hard to make the best of what was happening so I decided to talk to a few girls that looked my age. One was named Rosa and one was named Carmella, we all became best friends until Rosa got Tuberculosis and became very ill. Once we got to America there was inspections. It was terrifying, either we pass the inspections it we took months out of our lives to go Ellis Island to be rejected.Thankfully my mother and I were healthy and passed the exams. We lived in a ghetto called "Little Italy". People that lived there all spoke Italian, I felt like I was still...

...Creating a new start time for school brings a bad vision to our school year. Students would have to get used to waking up at a different high school time. By changing this time schedule, teens would still go to bed when they want to, there would be confusion with afterschool activities, and waking up early anyways prepares us for the real world. Teens always have had a bedtime when we were younger , but we would never would actually go too asleep at that time. So, by doing this students would still go to bed when then they want, and still could end up being tired like now. Like for example , we would wake up at 9:25 , most teens could end up going to bed at 2:00 in the morning and still be drowsy just like normal school times....

...Start a New Career student MGT/521 January 17, 2011 teacher Abstract The following paper will address arguments supporting a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and the considerations for the start of a new job. With over twenty years in the US Armed Forces, I will soon be faced with closing the current chapter on my proud military career and optimistically open a new chapter within a Department of Defense (DoD) Civil Service Agency or US Government Contract Agency. In preparation of this juncture, I feel to achieve an MBA will complement my global experience and bring all my technical, leadership, and management expertise together in a more lucrative upper management role. Start a New Career For most starting a new career can be a bit scary. Fortunately for those of us with a great deal of longevity in the military the ability to step ahead in the interview line is greater than those who have not served in the US Armed Forces. Many employers realize veterans bring a lot of value to their table, such as; accelerated learning curve, leadership, teamwork, diversity and inclusion in action, efficient performance under pressure, respect for procedures, international and technical trends, integrity, conscious of health and safety standards, and triumph over adversity (Veterans Today, 2010). Veterans also bring life experiences which only the military can bestow, soft-skills that unite individuals of all incomes, race, and nationalities, changing their fellow...

...successful graduation. This essay will shed the light on three concepts that will help students to start and complete their studies, and they are: setting goals and listing tasks, assessments, and plagiarism. Starting with setting goals and listing tasks, it is known that having goals set up helps students to focus on their main work and organize their plans in accordance with the suitable time limits. Yet, goals will turn into dreams if students do not follow and accomplish them step by step. For example, if a student’s main goal is to get a master in any subject, he\ she should list the needed tasks and homework for each lesson and get them done. By doing this, he\ she will start to accomplish the small goals, like passing the courses’ tests, then moving to the other. Secondly, assessments of writing assignments tend to demonstrate the differences between what students produced and what the supervisor desired. It also approves for the students that they are in the right track accordingly with their goals. For example, after they finish the first lesson, they should ask themselves if they understand it or not and so if they can move to the second lesson or not. In short, doing the required assignment is a question of how much information does the student has gained and understood. Finally, plagiarism is when students take other writers’ previous and published work pretending it is a new one or it is their own idea. It is also taking ideas and data from a web site or any other existing...

...Starting a business takes determination and passion and excitement don't run away from Initial failure. One of the most exhilarating things a person can do is starting a new business But unfortunately, a few bad decisions and some poor breaks and it can also be one of the most stressful and disappointing events in a person's life and a complete waste of time and money. The most practical examples of successful businesses and instructions on how to be like them, from using Social Media to networking clubs to build business and your job is to figure out what market you can best serve, then develop a strategy and budget to go after them. You must know three things which you should ever consider when you start a business and want to succeed: Passion, Excitement and Faith. If you don't love what you do, if you don't put passion in it, and feel motivated to wake up early in the morning, that business will never grow. It will find a way to survive in time but will never grow. The first thing you must know that when you are starting a business it won't start giving profit instantly from the time you start it. Hence you must wait and learn and apply new ways of doing business to succeed, not leave it after initial failure. My advice to a friend starting a new business is as follows. Vision. Never let money get in the way of vision. Ideas and concepts are free. Always do yourself the legwork prep work and homework. Prove to the people around you that you are dedicated and committed...

...highlight, how and what type of businesses to start and make money without putting in much of the hard work. The very first page of the magazine shows an absolute image of the man and women dressed up with lots of money and a road of success. The magazine rapidity claims” Sure ways to make money”. It seems like editor is personally involved in guaranteeing the success of the business with highlighting text displaying “Make $40 Million with eco-friendly herbs and sprouts” or “Make 15 million in the first year with Dollar Varity stores” As I am turning and reading pages more and more, I realize that this magazine is not meant to show issues, techniques, pros and cons of starting up a business but it is more like infomercials showing the top returns one can reap from his investments. The magazine forces me to realize that I am missing an essential experience in my life by not starting up the business. The magazine displays beautiful color and picture schemes. The magazine also highlights few of the success stories of the entrepreneurs. Overall this magazine makes business as a seamless transition of normal day today activity to a profit generating machine, but to some extent it also highlights few realistic and attainable goals. The second magazine takes much simpler approach towards audiences. The cover page is much simpler yet attractive without any graphics simply saying “Low cost businesses you can start today”. ...Looking for Credible Sources The first source is from an Encyclopedia and the title is Bullying in School Overview. The sources authors are B., Deborah Denise, Geier, and Lee. This source is more of what teenage bullying really is from the start to where it is now. It is more of an informative article to help you to understand teenage bullying a little better. This source meets that the definition of credible because it come from the ITT Virtual Library which consists of books, periodical databases that provide access to journals, authoritative encyclopedias, and subject dictionaries. This is a definition within the source that defines Asperger syndrome; “Asperger syndrome: A neurological disorder associated with autism that is characterized by normal intelligence and language development, but marked by deficiencies in social and communication skills. Such individuals can easily become victims of bullying”. This source would be accepted by an academic paper because it shows all its sources and come from an encyclopedia which is made up of factual information. The second source is a government site that informs people about bullying and gives you information in preventing it. The title that I came across when using the site was “Bullying Definition”. This source is more of an informational source that helps others to learn the effects of teenage bullying and give you information on how one can stop it from happening if you come across a bullying situation. “Bullying is unwanted...

...Assessment 2 – group work This has 40% weighting and so is the largest component part of your assessment work. You must form yourselves into groups of 4 (3 is OK and 5 is OK but no more and certainly no less). You may choose your partners, and we will not interfere. We will not find a group for you so do not ask. However, you are responsible for the management of the group – so do not choose to work with some-one who you do not know. If you decide you do not like some-one - we will not interfere. If your group becomes dysfunctional we will not interfere – it is for you to sort it out. These groups will be formed by the week starting Monday 10th February so you can start to think about who will be in the group immediately. You must inform us as to who your group members are. In addition we would like you to inform us of the organisation you intend to study. We will not let 2 groups study the same organisation. The presentations will take place in week starting Monday 31st March. The presentation will be 10 minutes long, and everyone must speak. They will be in our normal rooms at normal class times. If the sessions are not long enough for all the groups that we have, we may have to move you to another time. This is likely to be a Wednesday morning. The presentation will be as follows; Choose an organisation of which you have some knowledge, or in which you are interested. Explain how management accounting can supply information to assist the management of the organisation...

...xxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx Professor xxxxx September 14, 2014 Who Moved My Cheese During everyone’s life, there are changes that are bound to happen. Whether it be starting a new job, moving away, or going to school. Change can be exciting, but it can also be very frightening. The beauty and curse about change, is that you don’t know what is going to happen next. The book Who Moved My Cheese illustrates this concept very well, and I learned many things from this story that I can apply towards myself. I have recently had two new changes in my life. I have moved away from home and I have started college. Both of these changes are interconnected, since I moved away for college, but that doesn’t make them any easier. At first I was nervous about this new change, and I still am a little bit. Everything was essentially handed to me at home and high school was never a challenge for me. Now I have to remember to go grocery shopping, do dishes, pay bills, and keep up with school work at the same time. However, I knew this was something that I had to do, and it was, deep down, something I really wanted to do. After reading this story I think one of the biggest lessons that I could have utilized for myself, for this change, was the preparation. Hem and Haw were not ready to move on when their cheese ran out and I was not ready either. They kept going back to the station each day with the mindset that the cheese would be there forever, while I kept going home each day with the mindset...

...Based on the information that was provided in this case I believe Barker has two options. Barker can try to present the board with a brand new solution or a solution that has been mentioned by others. Based on time constraints I believe it will be difficult to demonstrate each idea but I do feel he will will be able to present both ideas to the board. Once the information has been presented to the board could take a Lean approach to figuring out what will work best for the organization. The Lean approach will generate data for the pros and cons of the ideas Baker presented to the board. The most logical approach to beginning with the Lean approach is to start with the data that is already available. Since there were suggestions to fix the operational problem provided by others it will be easy to present those ideas and see if they can be manipulated to fit the organization needs. If the ideas that were presented work then they can go with one of them instead of starting from the beginning. If Barker must start from the beginning he may find something that was presented during the other presentations to help him come up with something that will meet the operational needs of the organization. In addition to using data from other presentations it will be helpful for Barker to review data from other sources. Once he has review the data he should complete a literature review to help him organize the information he has found to present the the board. Since Barker knows...

...This loss of labour was crippling to the British Economy, and the English Government knew they had two million fewer workers than were required to meet the requirements of the country, and so, rather out of necessity than choice, more and more employers began training and recruiting women, and by the end of the war in 1918, the number of women employed in Britain had soared, as shown in Source 2. Here the rise in women's employment throughout the different sectors of the British Economy is clear, and this is incredibly useful in seeing just how big a part, women played in the war effort. In my opinion it is a very reliable source and one that is very useful to historians. It is official government research data, comparing employment levels from before the war and after the war, and was likely created very soon after the end of the war. Its primary purpose would be as a record of women's employment levels to inform bureaucracy, and also the government of the changing trends in the employment of women. As it is purely quantitative data, was created after the war, and given its creator and purpose, I think it is very unlikely that the figures will have been skewed for propaganda purposes, as there would no longer be any requirements for that in its contemporary context. I would also take this to mean that there is very little chance if bias. In my opinion Source 2 is an invaluable source in assessing how the lives of women were affected in WW1, as it not only shows that it opened...

...Since the inception of Wikipedia, the ongoing debate about whether it is a reliable source or not has plague academia. Still to this day many instructors have to make the conscious decision on whether or not they will permit it within their course. Cheryl Miller Maddox wrote, “The history department at Middlebury College banned students from citing Wikipedia articles in their papers and exams” (Jeffe Maehre, 2009, p. 1). This prompted a highly contested debate. The reason the idea is shared that Wikipedia should be ban from school is because of the fact it pollutes the mind. Today many children just are taking it as the gospel. Many educators fear that with the wealth of erroneous information Wikipedia possesses could be dangerous in the development of students’ education. Don Wyatt, chair of the department of history at Middlebury College stated, “As educators, we are in the business of reducing the dissemination of misinformation. Even though Wikipedia may have some value, particularly from the value of leading students to citable sources, it is not itself an appropriate source for citation” (Scott Jaschik, 2007, p. 1). This line of thinking was shared by multiple schools across the country. Many educators believe that the art of researching is a valuable tool to pass along to students. When a student has the knowledge of exploring many sources to find a fact is something that could translate seamlessly into the world of business. For example, a lawyer has to muddle through...
