...life comes with a price. Jeremy Johnson University of Maryland University College Near Field Communication. A convenient life comes with a price. Technology has been on a tremendous up rise in the past years, with the increasing technology come increasing ethical issues. Nothing in this world is perfect, so down sides to technology is expected. For example, personally I never buy the first edition of any new product, like a gaming system or a phone usually because the kinks aren’t ironed out at the time of release. A popular technology that is being put in new electronic devices to make life easier is Near Field Communication (NFC). NFC is a short range wireless communication technology that enables devices designed to establish radio communications with each other by being touched together or brought within a short distance. The NFC standard regulates a radio technology that allows two devices to communicate when they are in close proximity, usually no more than a few centimeters, allowing for more secure exchange of information. NFC came out Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), is the technology used by shipping companies and in superstores to keep track of goods, it uses electromagnetic induction in order to transmit information (Egan 2013). NFC is similar technology, but made better equip for consumer smartphones and other devices. NFC can work in three different modes NFC target, NFC initiator, and NFC peer to peer. An NFC initiator actively generates an Radio Frequency...

...wireless industry. NFC technology can be used in billing counters, buses, or sharing information to friends. It can be used by swapping the smart phone over NFC enabled device such as a NFC tag which has information stored in it. For example instead of swiping credit card in the card reader at any shop we can just simply take out phone from our pocket and wave it over the NFC enabled reader and credit card information will be transferred to the bank. HISTORY OF NFC NFC is not an innovation basically but an advance version of other short range wireless technologies like RFID. NFC forum was created to define the standards of NFC and facilitate it for further growth. NFC forum was founded in year 2004 in collaboration by Sony, Nokia and Philips. It define some standards which has to be followed by the NFC enabled devices and smartphones. The forum also ensures the inter compatibility of the NFC devices, which means that any NFC device can communicate with any other NFC device which provides a simple and fast way to transfer data and therefore it doesn’t restrict users to a few devices. Currently some companies have started using NFC technology such as Google and PayPal and this will encourage users to try this new technology. NFC is focusing on United States and is ready to establish itself as simple, contactless payment system. HOW IT WORKS NFC work on the basic theory...

AMS comes in four types. These are Manual, Biometric, Card-based or E-Commerce systems. This paper presents the implementation of an AMS that is based on Bluetooth and NFC technologies in a multi-user environment. It uses fingerprint and the Bluetooth address of the NFC-enabled phone of the user to authenticate the identity of the user. A Java based desktop application receives the NFC tag IDs, other information associated with the mobile phone and the user and submits them to an analyser for the interpretation of the user’s behaviour. Key Terms: - Attendance Management System, Authentication, Biometric, Bluetooth, Mobile Phone, NFC. I. INTRODUCTION Attendance Management System (AMS) is the easiest way to keep track of attendance for community organizations such as school clubs, scouting units, church groups, business organisations and volunteer groups. AMS is useful in terms of manpower analysis, day-to-day...

We investigate the use of 2 tagging technologies: Near Field Communication (NFC) and 2-dimensional barcodes. Our investigation combined a field trial and interview based study with an experimental evaluation. The field trial focused on users’ experience of the usability of NFC for a range of trial services, users’ perceptions of NFC use in their daily life context, and users’ suggestions for potential applications of NFC. The tags were embedded in a variety of postcards, table-top signs and posters. The experimental evaluation compared the ease of use of NFC and 2D barcodes, operationalised in terms of time taken to read a specified sequence of tags on posters. We found that for untrained users the 2D barcodes were quicker to use than the NFC tags but that training significantly improved users’ performance with the NFC tags while having no effect on their performance with the barcodes. 1 Introduction The use of ambient tags read by mobile devices presents new possibilities for service discovery and user interaction. Service discovery is an increasingly important issue as we move towards...

...Samsung Galaxy S3 a Smartphone at its best Jay Pizarro DeVry University Samsung Galaxy S3 a Smartphone at its best Last month I renewed my T-Mobile contract in need of an upgrade to a more high tech device. Due to my supervisor duties at my job I was in need of a faster and more convenient phone. Before considering an upgrade on a new cell phone device, I spent days researching and asking around for reviews on the Galaxy S3. After doing research and getting reviews I ended up purchasing the Galaxy S3, due to its positive feedback, popularity, and it meeting all my standards. I highly recommend the Galaxy S3 because of its cutting-edge NFC technology, S voice, Motion Gestures and Tec-Tiles, and powerful performance. The Galaxy S3 is a great choice because of its NFC technology. Due to the Galaxy S3’s NFC technology it makes sharing easier than ever. Content from the Galaxy S3 can be sent to friends or groups of devices. NFC technology allows the user to sync payment details like credit or debit cards. The user can then use the Galaxy S3 to pay for items by swiping the phone in front of a scanner at checkout. The S beam feature transfers videos, documents, and photos between two Galaxy S3 phones, by just placing them back to back. This is done at amazing 4G speeds, and works independently of the cell phone network and Wi-Fi. In addition to the Galaxy S3’s great NFC technology, the Galaxy S3’s S voice, Motion Gestures and Tec-Tiles functions are great. The Galaxy S3...

...Communication with POS Information Systems Near Field Communication is a new wireless technology that enables data transmission between two objects when they are within inches of each other. Smartphones & tablets enabled with NFC can exchange data with other NFC devices, or read information from smart tags embedded in posters, stickers and other products. The most interesting application for businesses is how it can be used for transactions. Many credit cards are NFC enabled with their EMV chips. Acording to EMVco “EMV chip-based payment cards, also known as smart cards, contain an embedded microprocessor, a type of small computer. The microprocessor chip contains the information needed to use the card for payment, and is protected by various security features. Chip cards are a more secure alternative to traditional magnetic stripe payment cards” (emvco.com, 2013). For fast transactions, the “tap” function of some POS (point of sale) systems is in fact a function of the NFC technology. In the case of using an NFC enabled smartphone (eg. Android Galaxy 3s and google wallet) or payment card (eg. Visa) with a NCR SelfServ Checkout at Dominion the process for the transaction is outlined below: Every card (even the "virtual" one used when paying with NFC enabled smartphone) has an account it is bound to. It could be a debit (bank) account, or it could be an anonymous account used with a prepaid card. When a customer or pays with the card, it authenticates itself in some manner...

...University of La Verne La Verne, California The Age of the Mobile Wallet A Paper Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for BUS500F: Business Marketing College of Business and Public Management Department of Marketing September 2015 Trend Identification: Today's digital technology is constantly evolving. A significant and popular financial trend that has taken over society is the use of Mobile Wallets. This technology allows you to pay for a product or service, using an application from your mobile phone at a Near Field Communication (NFC) reader. When the phone is held to the NFC, it will vibrate or beep to confirm payment. Customers have no need to carry cash, checks, or credit cards when there are apps such as Apple Pay that link directly to your bank account. Sounds easy enough, right? Many concerns from consumers and producers will arise from this Mobile Wallet. The most important being identity and financial fraud. I believe this new technology will affect all aspects of the market from production, to the final product, and certainly consumers. The way we pay for products and services has changed, leaving a decline in the need for physical currency. Will hard cash become obsolete? Or is this revolutionary trend just another fad? [pic][pic] According to Trendwatching.com, "Apple Pay saw 1 million cards registered in its first three days after launch. And by 2017, there are forecasted...

Most natives of Atlanta consider the Falcons a treasure of the city. The Falcons are the oldest NFL franchise in the Deep South. In 1965, after the Atlanta Fulton County stadium was built, the city wanted a football team to call their own. In the 60s there were two football leagues, the AFL and the NFL, and both of them wanted the team in Atlanta. So the city had to choose. On June 30 1965, the city picked the NFL and the team’s first owner Rankin Smith. On that day, the Atlanta Falcons franchise began. Rankin Smith paid $8.5 million for ownership of the team.
