...Near Field Communication NFC, or near field communication, is a type of connection that is established between two devices when touched together or brought close to each other. It is very similar to Bluetooth but with a more limited range and ease of access. NFC is used to transfer data and files between devices very fast and easily. Android features “Android Beam” and devices such as Nokia, Samsung, BlackBerry, and Sony have used NFC to pair external devices. NFC can also be used to share media, contact information, and even pair up to play games. Perhaps one of the most popular uses is the ability to pay using your device. You can store card information on the device and use the device at a designated terminal to pay. There are many pros and cons to using NFC. Some positive features include its versatility, convenience, and security in regards to card info. Some concerns with data security include the use of jammers to destroy data and “spying” with antennas. Another con of the technology is the expense of buying NFC compatible devices. Although larger companies may not have trouble paying for the equipment, smaller and privately owned companies can’t always keep up. Because this technology is fairly new, people are still finding out new uses for NFC. You can use it to share a long Wi-Fi password through transfer instead of paper. Using NFC tags, you can set up a place to tap in order to start up your computer upon arrival. It can even be used while driving. By setting...

...Abstract Bluetooth technology was first founded in 1994 and in the 20 years since its finding Bluetooth continues to connect the world. From connecting cell phones to cars to connecting hospitals with one another Bluetooth has simplified the way we do things as well as made them more secure. There are limits to Bluetooth though, such as its range and the speed of transferring data. In the horizon Bluetooth has NFCs and Wi-Fi direct staring it down. We will also look at what these two technologies have in common with Bluetooth and where they are stronger and weaker than Bluetooth. Finally, will either of these two technologies take over the market that Bluetooth has dominated since it inception? “Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology that allows people to conveniently connect their devices with other devices and the role of the technology is evolving to not only allow devices to talk with one another, but actually allow the seamless communication between devices, local applications and the cloud (Rogerson, 2014)." Bluetooth is a simple way to connect to other individuals, to share pictures, videos, and music without having to use cords or wires. It allows individuals freedom to share without having to use data plans or service fees. Bluetooth is found in most electronic devices, including most smart cell phones, wireless speakers, headphones, computers, keyboards, computer mice, televisions, and even video games. Bluetooth became a project in 1994...

...University of La Verne La Verne, California The Age of the Mobile Wallet A Paper Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for BUS500F: Business Marketing College of Business and Public Management Department of Marketing September 2015 Trend Identification: Today's digital technology is constantly evolving. A significant and popular financial trend that has taken over society is the use of Mobile Wallets. This technology allows you to pay for a product or service, using an application from your mobile phone at a Near Field Communication (NFC) reader. When the phone is held to the NFC, it will vibrate or beep to confirm payment. Customers have no need to carry cash, checks, or credit cards when there are apps such as Apple Pay that link directly to your bank account. Sounds easy enough, right? Many concerns from consumers and producers will arise from this Mobile Wallet. The most important being identity and financial fraud. I believe this new technology will affect all aspects of the market from production, to the final product, and certainly consumers. The way we pay for products and services has changed, leaving a decline in the need for physical currency. Will hard cash become obsolete? Or is this revolutionary trend just another fad? [pic][pic] According to Trendwatching.com, "Apple Pay saw 1 million cards registered in its first three days after launch. And by 2017, there are forecasted...

...Cash’s Evolution to Digital Currency Tony Giuliani Business Finance 350 September 25, 2013 The other day I needed to fill up my car with gas, but when I got to the gas station by my house the pumps had a sign on them saying “Cash Only” due to an internet outage. This did not bother me as I had cash on hand but as I pumped my gas several vehicles pulled up, saw the signs, and left for another station. I even heard one person muttering about how inconvenient it was for them that the store could only take cash as they got back into their car. Now normally I pay for gas at the pump with a credit card even though I usually have cash on me, mainly because I do not have to deal with pre-paying and guessing how much gas I need, and I prefer to pump my gas and go about my day with a minimum of human interaction. This is a phenomena getting more and more common throughout a world where currency and coinage are quickly becoming items that people no longer carry as their primary instrument of payment and businesses would rather not accept. We all want a quantifiable measurement for what our wealth is but don’t really care if it is in actually hard currency or just expressed in the zeros and ones in the digital world. Call the money a Dollar, Euro, Pound, Deutschmark or any other name you want as long as we know, on paper, we have an amount of them is all we care about. Why have currency and checks become less and less important as a form of payment when they were once responsible...

The project is focused in estimating the position of the phone inside a building where the GPS signal is bad or unavailable. The approach is sensor-fusion: by using data from the device’s different sensors, such as accelerometer, gyroscope and wireless adapter, the position is determined. The results show that the technique is promising for future handheld indoor navigation systems that can be used in malls, museums, large office buildings, hospitals, etc. Keywords: Sensor fusion, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, INS, GPS, Wi-Fi, indoor navigation, smartphone, Android...
