BASEBALL

Baseball is a bat and ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The goal is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or diamond. Players on one team (the batting team) take turns hitting against the pitcher of the other team (the fielding team), which tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways. A player on the batting team can stop at any of the bases and later advance via a teammate's hit or other means. The teams switch between batting and fielding whenever the fielding team records three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning and nine innings make up a professional game. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.
Evolving from older bat-and-ball games, an early form of baseball was being played in England by the mid-eighteenth century. This game and the related rounders were brought by British and Irish immigrants to North America, where the modern version of baseball developed. By the late nineteenth century, baseball was widely recognized as the national sport of the United States. Baseball on the professional, amateur, and youth levels is now popular in North America, parts of Central and South America and the Caribbean, and parts of East Asia. The game is sometimes referred to as hardball, in contrast to the derivative game of softball. In North America, professional Major League Baseball (MLB) teams are divided into the National League (NL) and American League (AL). Each league has three divisions: East, West, and Central. Every year, the major league champion is determined by playoffs that culminate in the World Series Four teams make the playoffs from each league: the three regular season division winners, plus one wild card team. Comparing The Kite Runner 'And A Thousand Splendid Suns'

...all those times in past…in the end I ran” (Hosseini, The kite runner 82). This quote shows that Hassan was royal to Amir and always protected Amir, Hassan also protected Amir from assef. Amir betrays Hassan by not protecting him from assef and his friends. Amir watches Hassan get rape. Amir did not stop assef because he was afraid of what will assef do to him. In A thousand splendid suns Mariam puts trust into her father Jalil, but ends up being betrayed by him. This proves when one of Jalil's wife says, “ Actually, your father has already given rasheed his answer… rasheed is here, in Herat; he has come all the way from Kabul. The nikka will be tomorrow morning” (Hosseini, A thousand splendid 45). this quote shows Mariam father actually doesn’t care about her because she is an illegitimate daughter. He finds her a suitor in one day and forces her to nikka (marry) him. Hassan and Mariam were both betrayed, Hassan was betrayed by his friend Amir. And Mariam was betrayed by his father, he betrays Mariam by marrying her to Rasheed. Finally, the last theme that is common in The kite runner and A thousand splendid suns, is abandonment. In the kite runner Baba abandons Hassan, even though he knew that Hassan is his son. This proves when Baba's best friend Rahim Khan says,“It was a shameful situation. People would talk. All that a man had back then, all he was, was his honor, his name, and if people talked… we couldn’t tell anyone” (Hosseini, The kite runner 235). this quote shows...

Submitted to: Mrs. Maria Cristina Naguit September 01, 2014 Summary Tesco is the largest British retailer and is also the world's third largest grocery retailer with outlets across Europe, USA and Asia. The business began in 1919 with one man, Jack Cohen, selling groceries from a stall in the East End of London. Jack bought surplus stocks of tea from a company called T.E. Stockwell. T.E. Stockwell and Cohen combined their names to brand the tea Cohen originally sold TESCO tea. In 1929, the first Tesco store opened in north London. Tesco has expanded since then by a combination of acquisition of new stores, retail services and by adapting to the needs of consumers. Tesco has net profits (before tax) of around £3 billion. Tesco's primary aim is 'to serve the customer'. Keeping existing customers happy is important, as they are more likely to return. This is more cost effective for the business than acquiring new ones. In the UK Tesco now has over 2,200 stores ranging from the large Extra hypermarket style stores to small Tesco Express high street outlets. Tesco's original product range of grocery and general merchandise has diversified to include banking, insurance services, electrical goods as well as telephone equipment and airtime. The Long Song and the Known World

...A Horrific 19th Century Slavery: The Afro-Americans’ Unrevealed Truth (The Long Song and The Known World) A Term Paper Submitted to: Marie Anne Balanni English Teacher Submitted by: Nikka Ocampo Student INTRODUCTION Why most people in the ancient times are slave victims? Why do slavery happens in the past? This is what I wanted to discover in my research. When we talk of slavery, it refers to a condition in which individuals are owned by others, who control where they live and at what they work. Slavery had previously existed throughout history, in many times and most places. The ancient Greeks, the Romans, Incas and Aztecs all had slaves. To be a slave is to be owned by another person. A slave is a human being classed as property and who is forced to work for nothing. Andrea Levys’ novel entitled “The Lost Song” and Edward T. Jones’ “The Known World” revealed to us the plight of being a slave rooted from their ancestral family and own personal experience as a slave. The two books have the same plot that unraveled the world of human existence happened in 19th century where forced labor centered in the sugar cane plantation. The main characters have a slight difference because the first one is directly the slave victim and the latter is born slave but became a slaver, owning a slave he bought. The Lost Song is set in the time of slavery and it is a story about a person’s life and the times they lived through. July a black house slave, is the main character that tells her...
