Dear Ken Higgins,
I work for Avery Dennison’s Graphics Division and we attended the International Sign Association Expo trade show in Las Vegas on the dates January 20-22, 2012. During our time at the trade show, we ran into a few issues. Here is a list of the issues we encountered:
1. The phone line to be used for credit card transactions was installed in wrong part of booth, requiring a 2-hour delay of the remaining set up on Jan. 19 (the day before the show began). This was an obvious setback for our booth. We could not really begin our show until the phone was setup.
2. The electricity failed twice on the first day of the show (Jan. 20) due to a faulty electrical junction box, shutting down the attendee lead retrieval device and interrupting a speaker doing a Power Point presentation of Avery Dennison’s products. Our entire presentation was stalled twice because when the power goes out, it forces us to reboot everything. This causes an even greater time delay to have everything up and running again.
3. The catering service arrived late for a VIP event in the booth on the second day of the show (Jan. 21) causing a 15-minute delay to the event. This was a major inconvenience since it was our VIP event and we wanted to everything running perfectly. The delay in the catering service made our VIP event seem unprofessional.
Based on the events that happened, I was hoping to receive part of our transaction costs back for these costs and inconveniences. The total costs of the trade show for our company was $2490 and was pre charged to our credit card before the event as written in the contract. We believe that a portion of this should be refunded to us based on the issues that occurred around the phone, electricity and the catering. We were hoping to recoup 10% of the expenses, $249.00 because of the issues. Please let me know what you think. If you would like to discuss further, do not hesitate to contact me.
We enjoyed our time at the trade show and plan on returning next year. The International Sign Association always puts on a great event.
