I have seen firsthand in this criminal justice system many times when a victim of domestic violence has called the police and the offender is arrested, then once it’s time to go to court, one, they never show up, or they refuse to testify and the case is dismissed. I do support the idea of the no drop policy case, which is an all evidence-based cases. This would fall back on the law enforcement officer dealing with this case and how the investigated while on the scene. Then the criminal investigation division would come in to continue the investigate for a more in-depth look. This would allow the victim that are too scared to come forward to have justice. However, in the other hand I also feel that it take way from the victim who no longer

Retention Policy

...CHAPTER 1 Background of the Study The Accounting Technology program is presently known for its tough retention policy which becomes a challenge to prospective students. Another motivating factor is that it has never received a warning from Commission On Higher Education (CHED) with regards to closure of some accountancy school. In order to meet the needs of the profession and merit the respect of the public, admission and retention policy will be strictly implemented of some universities. A student who meets the 75% GPA but has at most two failing subject, he/she will be given a chance to retake the exam on the said subject. Several studies have established the relationship between retention and later drop-out rates. Studies in both New York and Chicago showed that retained students were more likely to drop out than those promoted (Roderick, 2010). These results are echoed in other studies as well. The consensus is that retention, regardless of the grade in which it occurs, drastically increases the likelihood that students will drop out of school (Hauser, 2009; Holmes, 2012; NASP, 2011; Thompson & Cunningham, 2009). The effect of retention on dropout rates is no surprise considering that "retention is generally associated with poorer academic achievement when groups of retained students are compared to groups of similar students who are promoted" (NASP, 2011). The National Association of School Psychologists (2013) notes that retention is linked...

Blue Ocean Strategy

...Instructor: Dave Power 617.694.2472 President, Power Strategy dave@powerstrategy.com Office Hours: Before class and by appointment ------------------------------------------------- About the Course Course Description and Overview Growth companies are the engines of product innovation, market expansion and value creation. But sustaining the growth of these dynamic private companies -- typically with revenues of $10 to $100 million -- requires a unique set of skills, different from those required in either startups or large public companies. Many promising growth companies stall as their business models mature and they outgrow the processes and teams responsible for their early success. Using a mix of case studies, group discussions, interactive exercises and written assignments, this course provides a general management perspective of growth companies: strategy, execution, team, and capital. You first learn different growth strategies, including market disruption, “white space” discovery, and business model innovation. You then connect strategy with execution through market selection and positioning, “lean” development of new offers, and pipeline management. Because execution depends on team effectiveness, you explore team alignment and meeting rhythms, and the role of leadership in creating a growth culture. Finally, you learn about raising growth capital, managing boards and planning for a successful exit. Readings draw from Clay Christensen...

Studying the Great Moderation

...Studying the Great Moderation Randi Pittman MBA6008 – Section 101 Unit 6 – Assignment 1 02/15/2013 There are many things which could affect economic volatility. In fact, I recently read a case study which described this situation. The case study was entitled “The Great Moderation, Dead or Alive?” or “The Great Moderation,” for short. This case study was written by Diego Comin and was published by the Harvard Business School (Comin, 2011). The author begins by giving us a background on the situation that he analyzed. The case in question has often been referred to as the Great Moderation. After thoroughly describing this time period, Comin then provides us with some rationalizations for this occurrence (Comin, 2011). Next, the topics of the variance of stocks and reduced amplification were covered (Comin, 2011). There were also other possible causes of changes in volatility discussed; such as globalization, inventory management, policy, demographics, and technological diffusion (Comin, 2011). Well put together, the case study is an excellent example of how one can analyze an economic situation. To begin, let’s take a look at what happened during the time period known as the great moderation. During this time period, which began in the 80’s, there was a reduction in the volatility of output (Comin, 2011). Exactly what does this mean? In terms of economics, volatility can be defined as “a measure of risk based on the standard deviation of the asset return” (Volatility...

Teenage Pregnancy

...Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy conducted in 2006 revealed that in the United States of America, 4 out of every pregnancy occur in women of younger age. They go ahead to explain that annually, the United States among other countries with high rates of teen pregnancy record approximately one million teenage pregnancy. The purpose of this essay is to provide a claim of evaluation that critically examines the statistics of teenage pregnancy and the relationship between depression and poverty on teenage pregnancy. Given the establishment of how bad the prognosis for teenage pregnancy is, this claim of policy intends to establish the link between this public health issue and depression and poverty. Relationship between Teenage Pregnancy and Poverty One of the steps towards with any issue that appears to be a predicament is to establish the root cause of that particular problem. In this case, therefore, the main purpose of this claim of evaluation is to find out the relationship or link between teenage pregnancy and the victim’s socio-economic status. In as much as it has been named among the consequences of teenage pregnancy, Tripp and Viner (2006) observe that there is a correlation between the teenage pregnancy and high rates of poverty. In as much as teenage pregnancy is said to be prevalence in some countries than others, it is also necessary to be specific and mention that it...

Should Police Officers Wear Body Cameras

...officers should be forced to wear body cameras while on their patrol duty. Equipping police with body cameras may be an effective way to advance the behavior of officers and the community with which they interact, a new study finds. Researchers at the Campus of South Florida released their report on a yearlong body-worn camera pilot program at the Orlando Police Department, in which they randomly selected 46 officers to wear the plans and compared them against 43 officers who did not. In the 12 months from March 2014 through February 2015, use-of-force events also known as "response to resistance" events fell 53 percent amongst officers with...
