...Programs Administered by Probation Departments Programs Administered by Probation Departments Arhonda Smith Everest University CCJ1020-39_Week 9 Individual Work Professor Eileen Carlin March 11, 2012 House Arrest In the state of Louisiana which I reside in House Arrest Residential Community Corrections Residential community corrections programs are an alternative to prison and are intended to help reintegrate offenders into their communities. Programs provide a structured environment where offenders live, find employment, attend treatment, and reconnect with family and community. The offenders are allowed to leave the facility to participate in employment and treatment. Program staff provides supervision by conducting regular headcounts in the facilities, verifying offenders’ whereabouts when they leave the facilities, and performing periodic drug and alcohol tests. Nonresidential community corrections programs provide the lowest level of supervision in the community corrections system. Offenders live, work, and obtain treatment services in the community. Offenders typically transition from residential programs to nonresidential programs. Currently, 26 nonresidential programs operate in the State that serves diversion offenders. Transition offenders are placed in nonresidential programs overseen by the Department of Corrections. The importance of risk assessment to effective correctional programming is now well established (Andrews...

...accountable for their actions and through interventions which are much more restrictive, along with being more intensive than the standard probation; yet it falls short of a secure long term incarceration. For the youths whom fall short to respond to informal sanctions by re-offending and for some violent or drug-involved who need constant supervision, plenty of structure in their day, and monitoring but not necessarily meaning being institutionalized either. There are alternatives which can be a bit more restrictive of intermediate sanctions, for example; Training schools and Boot camps they are most often considered to be equivalent to incarceration in the terms of being harsh and severe towards punishment. Meanwhile with being known as conglomerate-care facilities; the training schools and boot camps are very much long term choices for confinement fit for juveniles in a correctional system layout....

...The Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail was designed as a medium to maximum custody facility; however, physical limitations on space hamper the ability of the administration to offer the support programs that may be beneficial to those minimum custody inmates. Mosely Architects noted in their report that, “there is virtually no physical space available to support offender program and treatment needs.” (CBCP, p. 10) Given the large population of repeat offenders, less than 50% had at least one prior felony conviction and nearly 1/3 had two or more prior felony convictions. The programs and treatment options not currently offered, even if minimally effective, can help to reduce the problem of overcrowding (Council of State Governments Justice Center, 2014). When considering many factors associated with repeat incarceration such as low levels of education, unemployment concerns and substance abuse issues, it is clear that the population at Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail could potentially benefit from programs that address these issues. According to the CBCP report, over 40% did not finish high school. Additionally, roughly 70% were unemployed at the time of admission to jail and over 90% had substance abuse issues that had affected their personal lives. Clearly, finding...

...Within every organization or business, certain basic requirements need to be established in order for proper operation. These areas fall within management that allow “a process of administering and coordinating resources effectively, efficiently, and in an effort to achieve the goals of the organization” (Lewis & Goodman & Fandt & Michlitsch, 2007, Pg. 5). Under management, these basic functions, known as the basic managerial functions, are: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. The purpose of this paper is to establish research and evidence that confirms the Department of Financial Services (DFS) State Fire Marshals is a well managed, properly functioning organization that provides the most pristine service to its communities, when referenced to the above mentioned functions. ...THE GREAT RECESSION Since publication of Robert L. Hetzel’s he Monetary Policy of the Federal Reserve (Cambridge University Press, 2008), the intellectual consensus that had characterized macroeconomics has disappeared. hat consensus emphasized eicient markets, rational expectations, and the eicacy of the price system in assuring macroeconomic stability. he 2008–2009 recession not only destroyed the professional consensus about the kinds of models required to understand cyclical luctuations but also revived the credit-cycle or asset-bubble explanations of recession that dominated thinking in the nineteenth century and irst half of the twentieth century. hese “market-disorder” views emphasize excessive risk taking in inancial markets and the need for government regulation. he present book argues for the alternative “monetary-disorder” view of recessions. A review of cyclical instability over the last two centuries places the 2008–2009 recession in the monetary-disorder tradition, which focuses on the monetary instability created by central banks rather than on a boom-bust cycle in inancial markets. Robert L. Hetzel is Senior Economist and Research Advisor in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, where he participates in debates over monetary policy and prepares the bank’s president for meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee. Dr. Hetzel’s research on monetary policy and the history of central banking has appeared in publications...
