North Monticello Factory

Antonio LaCosta is the plant manager at the North Monticello factory. He oversees and manages the production of four department heads. Each department head has been with Monticello Factories for over twenty years, which has made each department head very loyal to the organization. The North Monticello plant has the highest costs of the ten plants in the entire company. To make matters worse the plant has also fallen behind in production during the past eight months. Due to the age, rapid, and recent decline of the plant home office will be taking a close look at the Monticello plant. During a meeting Antonio informed his department heads that if costs cannot be brought under control and production increased by 15% within the next six months, the North Monticello plant will most likely shut down. This would be a hard and big pill to swallow due to the fact that many of the workers at the plant would be terminated. There is an upside, if new conditions are met the company plans to spend over forty million dollars on new production equipment. In turn all jobs at the plant would be secure. Goal Setting Theory- A motivation theory stating that people have conscious goals that energize them and their thoughts and behavior toward a particular end. I feel that Antonio LaCosta can start off by using the goal setting theory to help motivate his current employees. I feel that if he is up front and honest with them about the current situation regarding their employment, it will motivate them to work harder, and produce more. The idea that if they do not perform is engraved in the back of their mind as they go to work everyday could motivate them to work even hard to keep the plant open. LaCosta then needs to find was to decrease cost in production. He needs to find ways to cut back on unnecessary spending. Antonio should implement a strict

He figured up that each years new births of slaves brought him four percent profit.4 His plantation was producing endless profit so long as he had slaves. Mr. Jefferson even implied to an acquaintance who was in the midst of financial troubles, that an investment in negroes would provide sufficient returns.5 He shared his findings with George Washington who had freed his slaves because it transformed human beings into money. The only asset more valuable was land. Thomas Jefferson quieted his position on abolishing slavery once he realized the financial gains involved.6 Life at Monticello seemed perfect from the outside, and while he was not particularly harsh, he did punish his workers.
