...Record Nostalgic Record TBD BIS 220 TRUE, 2011 TBD Record Nostalgic Record Table of Contents I. Opening Letter II. Types of Information Systems III. Diagram of a Transaction System IV. Closing Remarks I. Jay Record Master, We have talked about opening up a nostalgic record store for a long time because the two of us have always been into records and collecting them. You have become a connoisseur and an expert with nostalgic records and your knowledge amazes me every day. Having stated that, I know that you do not have very much experience with how a business needs to operate and especially an understanding of the information systems that aid the business operation from making mistakes, quality control measures. This proposal will lay out five information systems that I think you should be aware of and grasp the concept behind them. I am not expecting you to become an expert overnight on these systems. I want you to know what other tools are out there to help make our dream a successful one. As I stated, there are five different types of information systems (IS) that I am proposing we utilize with the nostalgic record store. They are: 1. Functional Area IS | Supports the activities within a specific functional area | 2. Transaction Processing IS | Processes transaction data from business events | 3. Office Automation IS | Supports daily work activities of individuals and groups | 4. Management IS | Produces reports summarized...

...Information System Proposal May Tia Lee BIS/220 November 14, 2012 Ralph Schwehr Informational System Proposal The following proposal summary has been prepared by the Information Technology (IT) team describing a new information system required by our Advanced Services Network Consulting Engineers (NCEs). The information provided has been summarized and is intended to provide an overview of the proposed project. Executive Summary Within our organization we have a group of Network Consulting Engineers (NCEs) that provide Planning, Design, Implementation, and Operational (PDIO) services to contracted enterprise and service provider clients. On a number of recent occasions, it has come to light that one NCE is struggling with a design or planning issue that has already been addressed by another NCE. And in some cases, the solutions provided to our clients were not consistent between the NCEs. It has been determined a new system is needed that will provide an orderly and organized data repository that would be available to all NCEs. This system needs to provide an easy method for the NCEs to access and leverage previously defined design solutions. This system will provide several key benefits to the NCE team: ▪ NCE will be able to search for data related to the solution being considered ▪ NCE will save time in that we will not "reinvent the wheel" ▪ NCE provided solutions will be more standardized ▪ Using the same solution repeatedly simplifies supporting...

...Dusti Billings Ray Holmes Eng 101 15 May 2014 Vinyl Records Give a Better Appreciation for Music Audiophiles, people who exhibit a great enthusiasm for high fidelity sound production, have been debating the quality distinction between vinyl and digital recording formats for more than three decades. The first forms of digital recordings, compact disks, were introduced to the general population during the early 1980's. The compact disk, or CD, has now been almost completely replaced by mp3 recording. Digital recordings may be a more convenient way to purchase and listen to music, but vinyl recordings provide a much greater appreciation for the musical experience. First of all, vinyl produces a far superior quality of sound than digital recordings. Secondly, vinyl provides the listener with a pure and organic listening experience by providing an unaltered reproduction of the original recording. Finally, vinyl records, whether purchased by the collector or handed down through generations, have the power to create a very nostalgic experience for an individual. Most audiophiles tend to agree that vinyl records are far superior to more modern mediums for truly enjoying music. Vinyl recordings sound superior to digital recording mediums simply by design. The website HowStuffWorks.com points out that “a vinyl record is an analog recording, and compact disks... are digital recordings.” The website also explains that Thomas Edison is responsible for creating the first device for...

... I had sold the original, so I bought a new copy to remind myself both of why I liked the game so much as a child, and to revel in those childhood memories.". An acquaintance (close to age 30) simply stated that he buys "mostly old games/movies”. Another friend (near age 40) stated: “I guess I would probably just say music -- it's so heavily integrated into our everyday lives that they are bound to become embedded in the memories that we create. I have tons of music that, upon listening, can transport me to a specific time or place". One final acquaintance (in their 20s) stated: "With the technology shine that has effected most consumer goods, that sort of effect doesn’t describe many of my purchases. Hard copies of music such as vinyl record and cassette tapes most often have given me that feeling.". After pondering about these responses, I find many relatively young people (at least under the age of 50) return to digital things to revisit classic nostalgia feelings. I one hundred percent relate to what they’re saying in regards to video games, music, and movies. Those magical moments are what make certain purchases so rewarding, like for instance hearing a brilliant song that you haven’t in years, and have nearly forgotten about. I think it’s very strange how as the years go on, we continue to become more and more reliant on technology in nearly every aspect of our lives. If I had looked for responses from older folks (over age 60), I would have received completely different...

...Develop a case study of the after-life of an ‘obsolete’ music format Vinyl Records Music is delivered to its audience through various formats. Each format has its period of dominance and then with the natural process of technology evolving, the once considered latest and greatest music format is often seen as obsolete. The vinyl record in today’s society is viewed as an obsolete music format. However due to new trends and nostalgia it is slowing resurfacing from its after-life. This essay discuses the vinyl record, its history and its current role in consumer lives through a socio-cultural approach. The vinyl record was first introduced in 1930 by RCA Victor. RCA is mostly commonly known as the Radio Corporation of America, which is the flagship label of Sony Music Entertainment. The production in 1930 was for the long-playing music record included the advantage of a lower surface noise and was a durable material. The first commercially produced record was 12 inches in its diameter with a playback of 33 revolutions per minute (rpm). A vinyl record, also commonly called records or gramophone record uses a spiral groove that runs from the outer edge of the disc to the center to record and play back sound. During playback the sound causes a stylus to vibrate at certain frequencies while it engraves the vinyl. When the needle is placed into the record's groove, it will vibrate at the same frequencies and re-create the sound that was recorded. Sound quality of music on...

...Many viewpoints on media piracy exist, and although strong arguments present viable information for each side there is no clear cut answer. The difference in opinion between artists, producers, record labels, and listeners spans across the world. Listeners tend to take free music for granted nowadays as tunes can be acquired easily from various sources. Many state this takes value away from the hard work dedicated to producing albums, while others disagree arguing that the availability of music in today’s day in age is vital to up and coming artists trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry. In a recent study done on 1,000 of the most recent artists to break into the industry over 50 percent of artists stated that they believed media piracy helps make their work known, while a mere 15 percent were against it. Regardless of one’s opinion, the framework of the music industry is ever changing as artists begin to shift their focus towards increased concert appearances, released singles, mix-tapes, and featuring themselves in fellow artists’ songs. All attempts to stay in the spotlight they worked so hard to attain. The shift in genre, radio, widespread internet, and the increase in media piracy has begun a downward spiral for the sale of albums. As you can see, music was at its peak in 1999 before the technology boom truly took off, creating a lapse in the need to buy hard copies on one’s favorite artists’ album. Since 2000, sales have steadily fallen...

...about their qualifications, achievements and hiding negative information from future employers. According to studies it show that one third of the candidates practise such fraudulent activities. Unfortunately, many employers who conduct the hiring, does not check if the references are valid, which could create problems within an organization. Since there has been major incidents regarding false information, about 90% of Canadian organizations check or hires an external company to check the references of a candidate. It costs a small amount of money to the organizations to check the validity of the information, but it is an investment against possible long and money consuming trials. The candidates information has to be verified like criminal record check, educational qualifications, verification of previous employment and many more. Final Steps in Selection The final steps in selection consists of a supervisory interview and a realistic job interview, the hiring decision and the candidate notification. The supervisiory interview is designed for the top 3 candidates who will meet with the supervisior. Since a supervisior has the sufficient technical aspect of the job and is the most qualified to assess the applicants job knowledge and skills and can answer the questions from the candidate. Also when the applicant takes the job the supervisor is responsible of the new employees success. A realistic job interview should be implemented during the supervisory interview to create a realistic...

...when the patient privacy is concerned. In August of 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) were passed into law (Van der Aa, 2000). The law is intended to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the health care system by standardizing how to exchange data for specific administrative and financial transactions, while protecting the security and confidentiality of that information (Van der Aa, 2000). The areas addressed for HIPPA are: • Concerns that disclosure of patient medical records could result in embarrassment, insurance declination, loss of employment, or failure to be hired in a new job; • Increasing costs of data exchange in an incompatible and often competing standards environment to exchange administrative and financial data; • Implement processes and systems to reduce fraud (Van der Aa, 2000). HIPPA was signed into law, to help create a standard that will protect patient’s medical records and personal health records. This act is to help the health care employees have more control of a patient’s information and its privacy. This act also gives the patient the right to control their own information. Apart from the right to inspect, amend and correct their confidential health information, patients now have the right to control what information can be released and to whom (Van der Aa, 2000). The following case study is an opportunity to review ethical issues relative to confidentiality. This case study is a backdrop for the ethical...

...AKB48 released "Aitakatta" on the major label Defstar Records. Before this release, two singles were released as independent records. For this song, 20 members were selected from the 36 members of Team A & Team K. Maeda was one of these selected members, and she performed a leading role in the promotional video of this song. She has appeared at the front of every single ever since.[citation needed] The group's 12th single, "Namida Surprise!", included voting tickets for the 2009 AKB48 Senbatsu Election, where fans can vote for who will be featured in the next single. Maeda won with 4,630 votes, becoming AKB48's most popular member and frontgirl for their 13th single, "Iiwake Maybe".[2] However, in 2010, another election was held and Maeda lost to Yuko Oshima, who had 31,448 votes, whereas Maeda had 30,851 votes, so Yuko became the frontgirl for "Heavy Rotation".[3] Later that year a different type of election was held (AKB48 Janken Senbatsu Tournament) where any member in the group could be front girl. The members were selected by using the rock-paper-scissors method and Mayumi Uchida received the top spot of AKB48's single "Chance no Junban" which marked the first time a relatively unknown member has been at the front of a single.[4] Maeda and Yuko were back at the front spots for the next single, "Beginner".[citation needed] In 2011, a third AKB48 senbatsu election was held. During the early results, Yuko Oshima was leading with first place. However in the final results Maeda...

...played at high speeds. Edison used a hard pointed instrument along with a tinfoil cylinder and spoke into the device “Mary had a little lamb,” soon realizing he was able to play it back. Without meaning to, Edison opened the door to the future of the music industry, making it possible for musicians to record and distributes their original work. 50 years later vinyl records would come into play, and by the 1950’s they were your main source to listen to music. Vinyl Records were most popular from the early 1950s’ to the 1980’s until Sony developed the first digital audio recording devices to be used by professional studios. The following year, Sony invented the portable Walkman cassette player, selling over 100 million in the first year. ...Indian School of Business ISB007 February 15, 2013 Deepa Mani | Geetika Shah Sony Music (India) February 2012. Vivek Paul, Director of Digital Media Initiatives at Sony sat with Shridhar Subramaniam, President, India and Middle East, Sony Music Entertainment, in his Santa Cruz, Mumbai office and mulled over the remarkable changes that the music industry in India had witnessed over the past few years. With the rapid growth in Internet penetration and usage, technology was driving music production, access and consumption. Sales from digital platforms had surpassed sales from traditional physical formats, such as CDs and tapes. With the distribution of digital music in India largely skewed towards the telecom business, music was increasingly being accessed via mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. Artists were reaching out to consumers directly through many innovative platforms, and live performances were gaining more traction. Independent (“indie”) artist business models were rising in popularity and creating further fragmentation in the market. Overall, the role of the recording company seemed to be diminishing. While some of the leading companies in the music industry were testing the waters in the digital space, new players, including technology companies, were quickly entering the market with various new platforms and services. Distribution, in the form of music streaming services and e-commerce sites, was changing the way music was being bought and consumed...

Cimino, MD Author information ► Copyright and License information ► This article has been cited by other articles in PMC. Go to: Abstract Knowledge about users and their information needs can contribute to better user interface design and organization of information in clinical information systems. This can lead to quicker access to desired information, which may facilitate the decision-making process. Qualitative methods such as interviews, observations and surveys have been commonly used to gain an understanding of clinician information needs. We introduce clinical information system (CIS) log analysis as a method for identifying patient-specific information needs and CIS log mining as an automated technique for discovering such needs in CIS log files. We have applied this method to WebCIS (Web-based Clinical Information System) log files to discover patterns of usage. The results can be used to guide design and development of relevant clinical information systems. This paper discusses the motivation behind the development of this method, describes CIS log analysis and mining, presents preliminary results and summarizes how the results can be applied.
