July 12, 2016 Short Story Driving north one afternoon in early June with my husband Vincent and my son Theo, he was knocked out in the back seat, we were driving to North Carolina. I was just transfer there as manager of finance, for a corporation named All Whole. My husband Vincent was a successful lawyer back in Georgia, it was hard for him to leave at first but we finally came to a compromise when his boss offered him work at a law firm close to our new house in Northern Carolina which was great, his blonde hair matched perfectly with his ocean blue eyes, he’s tall, well fit, he is everything any woman would ever want, and I Carrie Thiessen was the lucky woman who got to marry him. I sat starting out the window waiting for this drive to be over , I closed my eyes for just a second wondering how our new life would be, when I opened my eyes we were at our new house. The house looked black and mysterious. Pine or oak trees, I couldn’t tell , they lined the entrance . A cobblestone walkway leading to the front doors. Cage lanterns in the shape of spheres hang next to the door and from the trees. “Were here,” Vincent said, “by God, it’s a beautiful house! So modern.” “I can’t wait to see inside.” He laughed, and the laugh made me laugh as well. I carried Theo to our new house while Vincent carried our stuff. I had to go to bed early that night because I had work the next morning. The next morning I left for work before Vincent were awake . The inside of the building was filled with glass I approached the lady at the front desk. Before I could speak “Sit down,” she said, without looking up. “Mr.Guion will see you in a moment.” I looked over to the pulled out a chair. “I wish I could. I’d like to stay and talk with you all night. As you can see” a man in a black suit came out of his office talking to another man in a black suit. He had dark hair slicked back in a way, green eyes. I then realized that was my new boss Brant Guion I had heard he was a brilliant self-made billionaire, he is successful, Looking at him he was charming, and breathtakingly handsome. As he spoke to the other man I could tell he has exceptional skills and excels almost anything he sets his sights on “Mrs.Thiessien.” “Yes!.” I answered fixing my skirt, I could tell he was looking “ I am Mr. Guion, follow me ” he started walking, and I followed He hesitated before he spoke “ Here is your new office it is right across from mine so we’ll be working very close to each other” I almost blushed. “Well, Okay thank you” “Of course. So are you married? ” he said, and smiled—probably because he realized that it was an random question. He repeated, “Are you married?.” “Yes—yes, I suppose I am.” I said looking down at his hands, saying nothing while I wondered what he was thinking. His eyes returned to mine and spoke again, “He’s a lucky man.” Then he turned away and entered his office which the doors were glass so we were able to see into each other’s offices. That night returning home all that was on my mind was Mr. Guion. The way he smiled, how he always looked up to see what I was doing in my office, I tried to shake it off I was a married woman I couldn’t be thinking of other men, “You’re late,” Vincent said sitting down on the couch with his arms crossed. “You said you’d be home at 9 it 12 in the morning I been worried sick.” I looked down at my watch o check the time. I had to stay extra time so I could make a good impression on my new boss. “I’m sorry I lost track of time .” I answered him “How do you lose track of time,” he said. “ It’s the first damn day!” “Why are you getting so mad?.” “Maybe because I had to come back to work to find Theo by humself because the nanny had to leave at 9 like planned” “How was I supposed to know she was going to leave!” “You need to make sacrifices for this to work like I have” he yelled, as he pushed ahead of me so he could go upstairs. “Oh, so is this what it’s all about?” “What are you talking about?.” “Golly, I don’t know?, maybe the fact that your still mad that you left your old job” I yellled. “You finally got it, I left everything I have ever worked for behind” “I suppose you should go back then since helping me in my career isn’t important to you.” “That’s not what I meant.” “Well, I guess you’re in for it.” “I guess I am.” I he whisperd I stormed upstairs and locked the door. I don’t remember the last time me and Vincent had a fought like that but all I know is that we didn’t speak to each other in 2 weeks unless if we were with Theo. But everyday going to work was he reason I woke up in the morning . Brant made me laugh every time, he took me out to lunch and stay with me when I had to work late, he made me forget that I was married and had a child. One fall day Brian asked me out to diner I accepted because I didn’t want to stay in a house where I don’t even talk to my own husband. “ You look very stressed what’s wrong” asked Brant as we sat across from each other a the dinner table. “ Nothing its just me and my husband we ae going through tough times right” “ I know what you need” he took my hand and lead me back to his place. I don’t remember mch of what happened that night but all I do remember was waking up beside my boss .
