...am trying to get across for the readers. The first thing when I am going through the steps of a writer is to start from the top, I feel as if some people jump around but I like to go in order I feel like as if it gives me a sense of direction when coming up with a reason to write my paper. Going into the second step of the writer is trying to find out what my goal is and that basically means what do I want my final outcome to look like and will it affect anything else? And to wrap up the next two parts of the guide since they kind of blend in together, is that I always want my readers to know the reason behind my own writing, I don’t want to leave them on a cliff, I always explain to them why I am writing this essay or prompt....

...Smith 1 Smith English 101 10 December 2008 My Literacy Background Reflection Paper When I think of revising a paper I usually think of making minor changes to grammar, spelling, and other more rudimentary changes. This time though I am challenged to not only make those type of familiar changes but now I need to make a more in depth analysis into the thesis and content, development, and expression of my literacy background paper. For me this is a real challenge because of my past struggles with literacy. For my literacy background paper the most important changes that needed to be made was to content and development. My instructor requested that I make some grammatical changes, shorten and summarize long quotes, and expand on main points and provide more examples. First, in reference to grammar and other rules of writing I did not make many errors. The first two pages were pretty clean. On page three I used the word “to” instead of “on”, as the instructor suggested, when referring to an effect on me from others. I find that I tend to make this mistake a lot. I need to focus more on areas I tend to need the most work on so I do not continue to make the same mistakes. If I don’t my readers will only continue to get the wrong message from my writing. Also, my usage of quoting words used in speech was left out. I should have correctly quoted the words Bruddah and brother, like “Bruddah” and “brother”. It is apparent that I need to work harder to make sure I improve...

...Essay This first semester of my freshman has been a very interesting trip. I have learned so much in the short amount of time that I have spent here at Kennesaw State University. I feel as if I have grown, not only as a student, but as a person as well. I have met many new people, made many new friends, and learned many new things especially in my English 1101 class. I thought I knew everything there was to know about writing when I came in on my first day, but I was very wrong. My professor assured me that there is much more to writing than just putting words down on paper. Knowing all of this, I have now learned how to improve on my writing skills, how to write better grammatically correct sentences, incorporate quotes and research and give as well as get criticism. When I came into this semester as a freshman I was very confident in the quality of my writing. However, my self-esteem was soon crushed shortly thereafter. Even though my writing skills had been very good compared to my classmates in high school, at the university level they were just average. After hearing about the on average grades students get in professor Elliott’s class, I knew I had a lot of work to do to receive an A on a paper. I had to do something quick to learn how improve on my writing skills. With the help of my teacher, she made us a read a variety of articles that were very interesting, yet also very insightful and helpful at the same time. One article that really stood out to me was called “Engfish...

...22061202 Exam number: 250494 Date: 12/8/2015 Evaluator: JLC September 30, 2015- ENTRY 1: ME, A WRITER? Attitude: I do not write a lot since I got out of high school. I do text my parents with full paragraphs without using abbreviations. I really do not like writing, but if I have to then I will. With this class, I know I have to write and I’m willing to, but I might take longer writing in third person then first person with a topic I’m not familiar with. I am great at looking at a picture and can write a story based it. I feel comfortable writing in the English class as long as I have the time to write and think about my steps needed to write the paper. Inventory: When I took that quiz, I felt that is was accurate based on who I am. I was between being independent and social. I usually am social when I need to be but mostly independent. I was closely related to creative but was also close to pragmatic. Spatial had a five for a score. I am usually looking at the data and using it the way I think it works. I had a score of six for rational, I also had a score of five for concrete. My rational skills are high, and I think I would work on being more emotional about things that need it for writing. I believe that being concrete is good but being abstract is also a good thing. It gives the writer the big picture of their writing for a reader. ...

...about my writing. I have learned that one of my best strategies with writing is getting a head start. I have learned that I will produce a better paper if I work on it periodically rather than all at once before the due date. Writing a paper periodically allows my brain to take a rest between each night. While my brain does get a rest, writing periodically also allows me to think of new thoughts and ideas that I want to incorporate into my paper. Along with this idea, a strategy that doesn’t work as well for me is trying to do too much at once. For the Paradise Lost Analysis and British Literature Analysis, I tried to do everything in one night so I wouldn’t have to worry about it any more. This technique put even more stress on me and made me overwhelmed. Although my literary analyses seemed strong in my...

...didn’t know what Dyslexia really was. I didn’t understand what it actually meant. I had to go to a class during school to help me with my reading and writing skills. I was very good at reading and writing growing up. I was in the Dyslexia class for over nine months. After I tested out of this class I had better knowledge of Dyslexia. Later on in school I was also diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. I was a freshmen in high school when I was diagnosed with A.D.D. During my freshman year my grades were dropping. I wasn’t paying attention in class, I was forgetting my homework at home or I just didn’t remember if I had any homework. I was much unorganized. I had a difficult time staying on task. It took a long time to read any books or papers. Whenever the teacher would give us many directions, I would forget a lot of them. With my Dyslexia I would mix words up, or mix up letters. When reading I was always behind other kids in my class because it took time for me to read a book, or a paper. I couldn’t remember the important details of the story we would read, so I would have to read the story over and over again. With Dyslexia I had trouble fully understanding or summarizing a story that I had read. Also I had noticed my Dyslexia when I was in math class. When we had a word problem it was tough for me to really understand what the question was asking. I would have to take the question step by step. When we had homework it took me a while to do my math if it had any word...

...College Composition 1 June 18, 2014 1. Did you meet your goals? As I look back on how I first started in my writing class I thought okay, what and how do I get started on writing in a journal and what do I put into words about what I need to write about. It was a struggle for me and I thought to myself you have to put a plan in action to meet the goal I had set for myself. 2. Did you try any new strategies to help you achieve your goals? Which ones. The professor would always tell us to more so think about a career you would like to write about and put it in action on paper as an essay. I had a difficult time trying to understand what it was I needed to say about the career in question. There was a lot of pondering in my head on what I really needed to do and what I needed to say but even on paper it came out wrong. After being told by the professor over and over what I had started was still wrong, I begin to get frustrated with her and myself. Then a light came on and I had looked into getting a tutor someone outside of the class to help me get started and focus on what I really needed to do. She began to talk to me and ask me what was my major and I told her my major was paralegal studies, and from there she began to start me in the right direction on how to start my writing project. Her strategy for me was getting a strong thesis for my paper and how to stay focus on it and stick to it. Her strategy for me was saying Kimalon pretend that you are putting yourself...

...school I really didn’t have that many writing assignments that were graded for quality. If I did I normally got a three out of five, writing isn’t my strong suit. I hate having to put my thoughts on paper or even talking about them. The comments I got back on my writing was either I needed more detail or explaining. I usually had grammar issues and misplaced commas. My feelings towards writing are horrible I hate having to write anything. In the future I want to be able to pick up a pencil and not have to struggle to make a paragraph like I am doing now. During my last semester here I had to drop my ENC1101 class because writing papers was about 80% of your grade and every paper I got back I failed. I am not the one to fail any type of class I had no choice to drop the class. The writing lab didn’t really help me either but there was one paper that I got a B on it was an argumentative style paper, the topic was different parenting styles and the outcomes on the children. This semester I need to work writing in general and everything to improve writing....

...first was from “I know what I want to say but u can’t say it”, this particular reading really spoke to me. There were points that told us to create outlines and make notes ,two practices that I am very familiar with as I use them for my writings. The second is from ‘writing down the points’ , there is this instance where the author says “writing practice embraces your whole life and doesn’t demand any logical form”- this quote I found to be really relatable. I like writing , and I like writing for myself , there are times when I find my thoughts to be really all mixed up , in times like those I find just sitting down and putting those thoughts on paper to be really cathartic. It doesn’t matter what I write as long as I keep my conversation with my paper going. The two aspects that I didn’t believe in were : I am a pen and paper person , I really don’t like typing much , it’s the use of my hands , physical connect of the paper with my thoughts that matters , hence I think switching my writing tools , I believe it creates a kind of barrier to the flow of thoughts. Neither do I believe in skipping parts in a write up , I believe it ends up messing up the continuity in my writings. The two aspects that I found to be similar: Both articles talk about a continuous practice of writing. They talk about how this practice helps in the continuous flow of thoughts and imagination that really helps. Both articles also promote writing for the self, how writing in ones own style...
