...is my situation: this morning when I woke up and went to kitchen I saw my lovely red stockpot laying in the sink looks like a big coal ball. It drives me mad. Actually I know what happened because this already happened a lot of times. One of my roommates “G” burned it again! She almost has burned all of my kitchen wares including my stockpots, pan, pancake turners, and several other wares. Another roommate “H” warned her lots of times because it’s very dangerous may cause a house fire. ...Suicide by Technology “There is nothing permanent except change.”- Hurculitus. In a world where books are illegal and firemen create fires, the ones who need to escape reality will go to extreme lengths to do so. When Mildred attempts to take her life with sleeping pills, she goes to her technology and acts like nothing like wrong occurred the night before. She was trying to distract herself from reality. Guy was vexing Mildred about had happened she only replied saying “it was really fun, It’ll be even more fun when we can afford to have the fourth [TV] installed”(20). She was cutting him out and ignoring him using the television, changing the subject. Her relationship with her husband is so stuff and distant, they can’t even talk about something as serious as suicide. ...and mistreatment by a supervisor. The supervisor had been firing experienced workers in order to make room for his family and friends. The workers went to the company’s office multiple times to complain. They presented Kirschenmann Farms with a letter signed by the majority of the workers asking for the issues to be resolved. The right to have concerted activity to improve working conditions is specifically protected under CA law. The company chose to ignore the law and fire the workers. With the UFW’s help, the workers kept fighting and filed charges with the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB). The ALRB found sufficient evidence and issued a complaint against the company. Last October 25, the workers’ legal rights were affirmed when they won a negotiated back pay settlement of $50,000. They looked forward to finally being able to pay bills. However the company decided not to play by the rules.Despite Kirschenmann Farms' lawyers promising the agreed settlement would be paid, (click to see 12/4/08 ALRB 4th request) nothing has happened. The company has still not signed the settlement agreement, paid the workers their money or given the ALRB any idea when they will decide to honor their legal obligations. Sotero Berrilleza tells us that after the settlement was agreed upon he promised to buy his 6-year old grandchild a video console for Christmas--his grandson still keeps asking for the promised gift. Send your e-mail now and tell company owner Brian Kirschenmann this is...

...God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn't pleased at being ignored. Matthew 16:25 Colossians 1:16 speculation vs. revelation We should ask GOD what our lives purpose is. He is the only one (the creator) who can tell us what He has purposed us to do and to achieve. 1 Cor. 2:7 GOD is the source of our lives – not just the start of our lives. Ephesians 1:11 You discover your identity and purpose through a relationship with Jesus Christ, God was thinking about us long before we were thinking about HIM We don't get to choose our purpose! Without God, life makes no sense! Life is about living for GOD, not myself! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Week two – You are not an accident! Isaiah 44:2 Psalms 138:8 ephesians 1:4 James 1:16-18 Passage James 1:18: 16 -18So, my very dear friends, don't get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures. Reference the song: “Great is Thy Faithfulness” ...

...audited. The firm is quite successful and has a solid reputation in the community. However, after closer examination of Justin Case’s history, I have my doubts. I contacted Case’s tax accountant, Jo King, to verify his previous financial history. Mr. King mentioned that Case was questioned by the IRS about a substantial capital loss 10 years ago. The loss came from a sale of a tract of land to a trust. Case allegedly lost all documentation and had no way of finding out the principals of the trust. Further investigation revealed that the land was recorded in the name of Case’s daughter, and that Case himself was listed as a trustee. The IRS rejected the loss and Case was assessed a civil fraud penalty. This illegal activity seems to reflect nothing of Case’s behavior now. As I mentioned before, internet searches of Case, Case’s banker and attorney, and the Dun & Bradstreet report speak very highly of him. Being on the board of directors for Case’s nonprofit organization, I have taken a considerable liking to this investigation. Nevertheless, we must uphold our professional skepticism. Why has Memphis Reality never been audited? Why should T&A CPA’s accept him as a client due to Case’s previous behavior? I have broken down these arguments to make a sensible decision. I am leaning towards declining the audit engagement, however we must consider both sides. Accept the Memphis Reality Audit Engagement: * Review the investments and receive a substantial audit fee. * Trust...

...Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow" (2.6.9-15). While the Friar does not think good things will come from the marriage, as proven when he says he hopes the heavens are happy with Romeo and Juliet’s marriage so nothing unfortunate happens to make them regret their decision (2.6.1-2). Once again, Romeo ignores intuition and instead goes with what he is feeling and tells Friar Lawrence no matter what misfortunes come from his marriage, nothing can take away the joy Juliet brings him and “love-devouring death” can do whatever it pleases so long as Romeo can call Juliet his wife (2.6.3-8). At this point, Romeo is letting his passion overcome reason so much that Jesus Christ himself could come down from Heaven telling him if he married Juliet, the world would end and Romeo would ignore him and continue with the...

...Philosophers came up with some criteria, but none of them makes sorting out what is good and bad an easy task. Here, we introduce two of these criteria. Principle 1 Golden rule: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. But the next example, the so-called Sopranoism, shows the limitation of this principle: Whack the next guy with the same respect you’d like to be whacked with, you know? (Source: Cathcart and Klein, 2007). Principle II Confucianism: Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself. This is a rather robust criterion. But its limitation is that it says nothing about what you should do. Dilemma Ethical decisions often yield a dilemma. Suppose that you were the CEO of investment bank XYZ in 2005. The debt/equity ratio of the bank was 20. All of your competitors raised their debt/equity ratios to 30 to please the stock market so that their stock prices could be higher than otherwise would be. You knew that raising the debt/equity ratio to 30 was rather risky and could destroy the bank if business went wrong. But you knew the investors would be disappointed by the otherwise lower share price if you did not raise the debt/equity ratio. So, what is the answer? I do not have an answer for this kind of ethical question because it is a dilemma; otherwise, I would not use the word “dilemma.” All I know is that you, as professional managers, are expected to behave ethically. One thing I know for sure is that...

...of starting a life with her and this child is more than he bargains for. Many interpretations have described Jig to be a very naïve young girl who is strongly influence by her male companion, but she fully understands her options. However, “ironically the American has become a “white elephant” to her, at the same time that she and the fetus continue so to him” (Hannum 53). The girl and the unborn child may be white elephants, but The American has also taken on the role of the white elephant in Jigs eyes. Jig no longer is reliant on the man’s opinions nor finds anything he says useful or insightful. Near the end, Jig reveals her frustration and her stance that she does not want his opinion anymore by demanding he “please please please please please please please please stop talking” (Hemingway 296). The Modernist writing style used although not abundant, gives great insight into the minds of these two characters through the simplicity of their words and their silence. Simply by reading the...

...For the next 60 seconds, set aside whatever you're doing and take this opportunity to read, please! At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to the death …At the time crucifixion was the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals were condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus, unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by His hands and feet. Each nail was 6 to 8 inches long. The nails were driven into His wrist. Not into His palms as is commonly portrayed. There's a tendon in the wrist that extends to the shoulder. The Roman guards knew that when the nails were being hammered into the wrist that tendon would tear and break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support himself so that He could breath. Both of His feet were nailed together…Thus He was forced to support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross. Jesus could not support himself with His legs because of the pain so He was forced to alternate between arching His back then using his legs just to continue to breath. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage. Jesus endured this reality for over 3 hours. Yes, over 3 hours! Can you imagine this kind of suffering? A few minutes before He died, Jesus stopped bleeding. He was simply pouring water from his wounds. From common images we see wounds to His hands and feet and even the spear...
