In White Castle, Louisiana, the South’s largest remaining antebellum mansion, Nottoway Plantation, still stands after almost two hundred years. Nottoway Plantation has many options for entertainment and brings people together in the community and also brings in people from all over the world. The mansion has an outstanding history, provides many entertainment options, and is a pleasant place to experience.

John Hampden Randolph commissioned the construction of the plantation, which was completed in 1859. According to Nottoway Plantation’s website, the Greek and Italian style mansion is 53,000 square feet, has 64 rooms, 22 exterior columns, 12 hand-carved Italian marble fireplaces, 15 1/2-foot ceilings, 11-foot doors, and the famous all-white ballroom. This plantation has remained standing for nearly 200 years, even through the Civil War and many years of decline and poor conditions. Nottoway was sold by Randolph’s wife shortly after the Civil War and his death, then sold two other times during the 20th century, according to a tour guide during a historical tour of Nottoway. According to their website, Nottoway’s Mansion Restaurant is in the restored historical dining room that provides views of the ground’s oak trees. Maelan Junot, who works in the restaurant, said, “the grounds are beautiful and the food is really good.” When asked to describe the atmosphere of the restaurant dining, Maelan said, “the dining room atmosphere is very elegant and provides options for casual or fine-dining.” According to their brochure, the restaurant provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner, served in either casual or fine-dining settings.
