...desperately trying to catch a marlin. This marlin represents hope. The marlin represents hope because it is the one thing that Santiago will not let go, it gives Santiago strength, and in the end, is mostly lost. The marlin, which represents hope, is one thing that Santiago will not let go. When the tug loosens on the fishing line Santiago exclaims, “‘He can’t be gone’ he said, ‘Christ knows he can’t have gone’” (Hemingway 42). Santiago keeps holding the marlin for strength and will not give up. He was so hopeful that the fish was there that there was no way in his mind that he could give up. “You work now, fish...I’ll take you at the turn” (Hemingway 89). Santiago will not let go of this fish. The marlin is everything to him and once that is gone he is left with nothing but himself. He has calculated every move so that he will catch the fish. Nothing is able to stop him. When Santiago does have the marlin on his line, than he is filled with both hope and strength. The marlin that Santiago is trying to catch...

...The sirens are screaming and the fires are howling, way down in the valley tonight. There's a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye, and a blade shining oh so bright. There's evil in the air and there's thunder in sky, and A killer's on the bloodshot streets. Oh and down in the tunnel where the deadly are rising, Oh I swear I saw a young boy down in the gutter, He was starting to foam in the heat. Oh baby you're the only thing in this whole world, that's pure and good and right. And wherever you are and wherever you go, there's always gonna be some light. But I gotta get out, I gotta break it out now, Before the final crack of dawn. So we gotta make the most of our one night together. When it's over you know, We'll both be so alone. Like...

I am cursed; our family is cursed by such tragedy. No, it is not me to blame…it is that Capulet’s fault (stand up). Tybalt slew thy good friend Mercutio, twas him who began this bloody fray. Romeo just concluded what the law should end, which is the life of that villain Tybalt. Tybalt caused my sweet child to be banished. If he hadn’t had to prove his manliness then my dear son would still be here. Curse his home, curse them all for stealing my son from me. This ancient grudge has gone too...

Health care has gone through a major restructuring period. Some of the key changes were moving from hospital based care to care being provided on an outpatient basis and in nursing homes or managed care facilities. Many medical procedures are now being performed in non-hospital settings, like a physician’s office, patient’s homes, or separate outpatient clinics or surgical centers. Most of these changes were implemented to reduce the number of hospital beds needed and the reduce the length of a hospital stay. There changes were considered the first step towards reducing cost in the healthcare field. ...THA 3 1.) Unemployment rate for U.S. Citizens will decrease with immigrants gone if you would like to add anything to my answer you can a. Illegal immigration equals virtually free labor, worker are willing to work extra hard for very low pay in local low-skill jobs (farm, construction, etc) therefore many low-skill Americans are unemployed. Legal qualified immigrants increase more productivity and profitability than Americans with PhDs leaving many Americans in high demand job fields (business, internet, food, furniture, apparel, etc) unemployed. With immigrants gone Americans will have more job opportunities available without having to settle for less pay or benefits. b. (My answer)With so many positions now available more of the remaining citizens will be able to now have jobs. Even with the pay being very minimal more Americans will have the opportunity to apply and receive the jobs. Jobs that skilled immigrants had will now fall to Americans that had the same skill qualities allowing for those Americans now to become employed. Benefits may not be great in the beginning, but will come along as positions are filled and products demanded are sold. Pay increases will also depend on products demanded and sold. 2.) With immigrants gone wages will decrease since this is the answer you selected we needed more factual as to how they will become poorer based of the information in our slides, lectures, or book readings. ...In Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston’s book, Farewell To Manzanar, Houston describes the events leading up and during her family relocation during World War Two. Houston uses vivid imagery to show how the dynamic of her family changed while her father was gone. In the book’s first chapter, Houston says that her father was arrested for supplying oil to the Japanese. This marks the first time where we see the instability of her family. As her father is taken away, she describes her mother as she “began to weep as it seems now that she wept for days.” Her mothers crying symbolizes that they have lost and important member of the family which foreshadows the struggles they will have to go through as a result of losing him. As her father remained incarcerated,...

...Instructor English 101 10 December 2014 Essay 2 Tragic In the “Fourth State of Matter” by Joann Beard, Beard expresses the horrific event that she encountered at the University of Iowa, by using the symbols of her dog, the squirrels, and the plasma to help the readers interpret and understand the shooting and how it influences her life today. The symbols play a key role in Beard’s writing and the struggles she deals with every day of her life, but also helps her get her point across, as well as keep her audience engaged to connect the symbols in the shooting. We, as an audience, are first introduced to her dog. The dog is the one symbol that is continuous throughout the essay and symbolizes the shooting, and death of her friend Chris. As Beard states “The collie fell down the basement stairs. I don’t know if she was disoriented and was looking for me, or what. But when I was at work she used her long nose like a lever and got the door opened and tried to go down there, except her legs wouldn’t do it and she fell.” (Beard 23) This shows that the dog had no control over his body, just like there was absolutely no control in what Gang Lu was thinking during the shooting and there was not anyone or anything that could stop him. She explains, “Gang Lu stands up and leaves the room abruptly, goes down one floor to see if the department chairman Dwight is sitting in his office. He is.” (Beard 25) This shows that anger Gang Lu has and it leads up to what is about to happen....

...the second stanza there is another reference to innocence which seems to be reoccurring throughout the poem. “Pipe a song about a lamb”. The lamb is known as an innocent animal, and would suggest new life/birth. Here Blake has used pastoral imagery. In the first part of the quotation the child is instructing him to make a song. The theme of positivity and happiness has begun to show within the stanzas. Blake uses words such as; “pleasant”,” laughing”, ”merry cheer”, “happy cheer”, “joy”, and “happy”. Now all of these words are positive which is why we begin to feel as though this poem is happy. However I feel as though Blake uses these words to mask some hidden feelings or emotions deep within the poem. The fourth stanza is where the child disappears. “So he vanish’d. from my sight. And I pluck’d a hollow reed.” “Hollow” would suggest emptiness so maybe the poet now feels empty because the child is gone. Also as the child seemed to reference an angel, that has now gone it connotes that the poet doesn’t feel protected or safe anymore. The poet feels alone. “Piper sit thee down and write In a book that all – may read”...

...Millions of child soldiers have gone through serious conflicts and are left with traumatic pasts. Although some people believe that rehabilitation and reconciliation is unworkable, it’s viable if they are given the chance to join rehabilitation camps. Not only are child soldiers able to get back into society, they also get the chance to finish their education. Evidence from the article shows that, “about 80 percent have gone back to school” (Sindhuli 1). When child soldiers were forced to join in the war, they had their education and childhood taken away. Now, rehabilitation camps are working to help young people rejoin civilization and get back to school. Also, the article states that, “other current child soldier projects include rehabilitation...
