...Training Program was also known as “An Act Establishing the National Service Training Program (NSTP) for Tertiary Level Students, Amending for the Purpose Republic Act No. 7077 and Presidential Decree no. 1706, and for other Purposes” or Republic Act No. 9163. It was signed into law in January 23, 2002 amidst the various calls of dissenting sectors for its abolition or reform. It invoked the constitutional provision regarding the “duty of the state to serve and protect its citizens,” specifically Article II (Declaration of Principles and State Policies), Section 2, which states that “The prime duty of the government is to serve and protect the people. The government may call upon the people to defend the state, and in fulfillment thereof, all citizens may be required under conditions provided by law, to render personal military or civil service” (italics supplied). This is the same principle that created and sustained the Reserve Officers Training Corps. The primary objective of the NSTP law is to promote the role of the youth in nation-building. As such, it aims to encourage the youth to become civic and/or military leaders and volunteers whom could be called upon by the nation in cases their services are needed. Compared with the ROTC which specializes in military training, and the E-ROTC which granted three options for students yet was limited in implementation, the NSTP law ensured that the three components – Civic Welfare Service, Literacy Training Service, and Reserve...

...NARRATIVE REPORT An NSTP class (National Service Training Program) usually aims to teach us about the problems in our current society, and try to take a step forward to at least try and help out the people in need of our services, without expecting anything in return. I can say that I experienced and learned all that in this class. Usually, one would expect that it would be hard to make friends during the first day of class, of course, my own regular subject classmates aside, who were also in the same class. In this class, however, it was as if it was the most natural thing to do. Everyone here is just so friendly, approachable, and easy to talk to, including our own Professor. Before long, it wasn't that difficult to get acquainted with everyone else, unlike in my previous class where the Professor organized some weird games and activities just to force us to interact with each other. Although you really can't face out the idea of being a bit left out, only this time, in numbers. About half of us are Information Technology students, and they'd usually just chat with each other instead of the rest of us. Anyway, the first day of our class, if I can still remember correctly, was pretty normal. Our Professor greeted us, and we were actually a bit surprised. He's really kind to us, aside from the occasional scolds, which are usually our fault anyway. I was happy to find that the people sitting around me were very friendly, and would occasionally be the ones to start the conversation...

...During the first meeting of this NSTP course I learned some facts about whats with this course, what should be done, how it should be. Our first NSTP began on DRRM Practical exam. What can you do, what should you do. In this practical it taught us different ways how to be prepared in any fortuitous and disastrous events. Then, our first fieldwork was held at Samal, Baatan. We did planting, we also planted different kinds of vegetables but the vegetable which is assigned to us(Italian group) is ampalaya. We really enjoyed it though it is really hard, we had fun. Perhaps we also helped the families in that community. They can sell those vegetables or they can also eat those. A fun run was held on January 26, 2017 at University of Santo Tomas. All of us gathered in front of the grandstand. It was so heart whelming because all of us cooperated, thomasians and non-thomasians. This fun run is a fund-raising activity for the Yolanda victims. Even though it was tiring but we had fun because we know that the money we spent will be donated to the Yolanda victims. And for our second fieldwork, we went to Nueva Ecija to do some feeding program and sharing of knowledge. For me, this fieldwork is the best, because I got the chance to play with the unfortunate ones. I got the chance to share my talents. The kids were so kind and sweet though they are really naughty. And they still listen to us even if they have their own worlds. They are not that snob and hard to get, they participate well...

...National Service Training Program or simply as NSTP, It aims to promote and integrate values education, transformational leadership, spirit of patriotism and nationalism and sustainable social mobilization for youth development, community building and national security. During our 5 months in the Education field as1st year college (1st semester) As we are trained by our professor, Ms. Reyes, we did a lot of activities. In our first week of training we are given the chance to get to know each other, our first impression to one another, and our goal starting that day is to prove to them that first impression didn’t last. We should be aware of the attitudes of one another to develop a harmonious society among each other. Also, we should develop not only our knowledge and skills but also our attitude and moral character and we should be mature enough in setting our goals and perspective in life. We learn how to value environments, people and etc. We’ve had fun and shared our own experiences through the things that need to be discussed. As we tackled about leadership, Ms. Reyes gave us a lecture about the things that we need to mull over to become an effective leader and a good member. As a leader you should set your goals and priorities to be able to do all the activities and you must be the one to guide all your members and being a leader is not just something that we can be overnight. Being a leader is a commitment to growth, and to willingness to bear the responsibilities...

In fulfillment of the national goal, on January 23, 2002, the Republic Act 9163 also known as the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 was born, signed and implemented into law by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for tertiary level students amending for the purpose of Republic Act No. 7077 and Presidential Decree No. 1706 NSTP (National Service Training Program) provides tertiary level students sufficient information about social responsibility,-nurturing the values of patriotism, love of country, relationship with God, respect towards others and oneself, academic excellence and public service. In such, the course is subdivided into three components. (1) Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) is a program under Republic Act 7077 which trains the youth in tertiary level in a military training which activate them for national defense preparedness. (2) Literacy Training Service trains the students to become teachers to less fortunate school children, out-of-school youth and other indigent people who have been neglected for the opportunity of learning. (3) Civic Welfare Training Service is a program that trains the students to contributing for the general welfare of the life of the members of the community. When I enroll for my first NSTP subject, I was completely unaware about its different components. I didn’t know that I can actually choose for what components I wanted to belong. ...Nstp class is a civic welfare training services program is primary an outreach activity of DLS- College of Saint Benilde after We had fulfilled our nstp. I personally changed in my action and words that reality is happening in our environment which is Poverty here in The Philippines is increasing . The particular event in our nstp immersion is the experience to teach them to make a color wheel which I loved most making art and preparing activities for them to have fun. This activities shows and express their insights and thoughts in their life somehow to express their feeling because color shows particular emotion of a person. I touch with what they saying call as Angel a smart and bright child She was telling me stories their life that what is happening a demonstration of their houses this coming last week of December she don’t know how to celebrate Christmas season this year for her Christmas wishes is to stay in their places and nit gonna happend that things. I feel self pity for her a child who thinks for his study's and family stability. Angel is smart girl a top 1 student in their class and wants to be a teacher someday She sings well and always sang everytime we have an opening remarks And wants to learn and study hard. I think the small places in the 4 corner room is not enough for the children to study well we have an activity space is important when we perform games. We are 7 in a group 12 to 13 children student and 1 social worker We are able to finish the time...

...Reflection I’ve realized that NSTP served as an eye opener to us students, as we become aware of the current situation of our country--poverty. I have learned the value of having a family who can provide their basic needs. I’m very fortunate that I am going to a school with quality education. I realized the blessings that I have right now, that I’m indeed fortunate enough to own the things that I own right now. I also felt gratitude with the kind of different families in that community because even though their condition is not that good and they encounter problems in their daily living, they are still happy and fighting in every challenges of life. I saw the simplicity of life, even having less, every family of the community does not fail to thank God that they are all healthy and still surviving their daily lives. My experience with this activity will be much cherished because this had taught me how to be contented for what I have. I think if the officials in our country will work together with compassion and honesty and will focus in improving our country not on fighting and blaming each other, Philippines will achieved a high level as compared to other countries, there will be no depressed, deprived, and underserved families or communities in our country. Also, as a citizen of Philippines, we should also be aware and cooperate in solving the problems of our country. We should work hand in hand and develop the value of camaraderie because we cannot solve these problems...

...Service is willingness to help those who are less fortunate by sharing your skills, talents, and knowledge with them without anything in return. We are very lucky to be an instrument of our God to be a servant to those who are in need. Not all of us will be given a chance to be included in this program, but all of us have the choice to serve others even without this kind of program. This National Service Training Program is only a bridge, and we have the decision if we will follow the path and reach out those who are in the other side. At first I was afraid on how will I do my task in this course because I admit that I am really not good at teaching or sharing my ideas and knowledge to other persons. On the other hand, the one that pushed me to believe that I can was that my love for children. I really love kids, they are very charming and what I like about them was that everything that they see was all beautiful. I remember when I said that, “Ang panget ko talaga”, a child reacted against me, “Hindi po kaya. Maganda po kaya.” Also with the help of our professor Mr. Mariquit, who served as a model to us and continue to guide and motivate us. Every activity that we do in our group, it builds us to be a real servant. Yes, it is tiring and full of task, especially if we have an immersion. We have to find time in our hectic schedule to have a meeting regarding what will be the flow of our activities. It is very challenging, from outlining those activities, thinking how will we...

...A BETTER WORLD STARTS WITH ME By: Edward Joshua L. Altavano BSM 1-B You have to admit that once in your life, you dreamt of a better world than the world that we’re seeing and living right now. But I don’t blame you. I also imagined what if I’m living in a let’s say, a perfect world. Well you know we’re human. We wasted precious hours on imagining ourselves living in a perfect life. But let’s stop dreaming right now. We must wake up because in reality, we are living in a grotesque world. For those who haven’t seen, heard, or even realized that it’s an existing word in the English language, grotesque simply means ugly. There are many negative things that happened in the world. World wars, widespread of deadly diseases, the infamous ethnic cleansing known as the Holocaust, assassination of known political leaders and notable personalities, natural and man-made calamities that claimed a million lives of helpless people, and many more. And if you thought that these were the only negative things that are happening in the world, you’re wrong in every angle! Various crimes that were committed continue to poison our world that we wanted to be perfect, safe, and peaceful. Why do people want to have a perfect world? It is because we want to feel comfortable. We want to live with no worries. We want to be safe when we go to different places. We want our family and friends to be safe, happy, and have a peaceful relationship with us. The only problem with us is that we’re just waiting...

...Welfare Training Service (CWTS) is one of the three program components of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) established under Republic Act 9163. CWTS covers programs or activities that will add improvement to the common wellbeing for members of the community or its facilities. It aims to instill among the students: citizenship, volunteerism, and career exploration and development. All students of the University of the Philippines need to complete two semesters of CWTS as a requirement for graduation if the student selected this as his or her choice of NSTP component. The teacher has to inculcate to the students that, being scholars of the country, they have to volunteer their service not only to the people but also to the country. This is to show appreciation for the people’s support for their quality tertiary education. Thus, there is integration of civic and social values in the course. What makes teaching CWTS challenging and exciting is that the teacher incorporates statistics in the volunteer work that the students will do. Hence, the teacher prepares the students to do statistical work needed by the public and makes them aware of the different paths they can take in their respective careers. CWTS in the School of Statistics Each college in the University of the Philippines has a free hand in the implementation of a selected program component of NSTP as long as it follows its program concept. The three program components are Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, Civic...
