Directory services
An Active Directory is a way of storing directory data as well as managing communication between domains and users. This includes the user’s login process, authentication, authorisation and directory searches.
There are many different directory services available, for example authentication and authorisation. Authentication is where a user has to tell the network who they are. This is so the network will know what to do with the computer they have logged in on. The general way authentication is done is using the simple but effective username and password method. This is done by the user setting a username when they start the job or sometimes this will be given to the user. This keeps all the information of user’s safe by only allowing people who have access to see this information. It also allows low level users to see only the information that is requires for them to do the job this makes sure that no low level users leak information to other businesses. Likewise it allows users to only see only their information. By this I mean that there will be a group of users with the same permission that can see all the same shared files, however they can only see their own personal files and can’t see anyone else’s personal files that they have saved. This also allows people who progress in a business to higher level permission they are able to have their level of access changed easier. There are not many disadvantages to this. The only problem with this is, if a lower level user needs information that is out of their permission this has to be changed by someone who has high access to the system. This is more of an inconvenience than a problem however will still slow down the rate in which that individual can
