Culture in the Midwest

In the Midwest our culture seems to be somewhat simple, but definitely it has a modern twist. Work and education is a major part of our culture unlike many other cultures outside of the United States mainly due to the availability. School is mandated for the youth of our culture rather than a privilege as it is in other areas of our world. Women in our culture tend to work outside the home because that extra income is needed to survive in a society that money is a major part of survival. To start with the household, women are frequently employed outside of the household and may be the “bread winners”. This is pretty common in the United States since the woman’s rights movement’s years ago. Women not only work outside the homes, but are usually the caregivers of the children as well. It is common to see a single working mother more often than you see a family with both parents. This is mainly because the divorce rates are more than 50% of all marriages. Also more women are having children out of wed lock because the norm of having to be married before intimacy and children has been lost on a majority. This is not to say that it is completely lost, but has become the marginal crowd. Crime here tends to be expected rather than the shock that it should be. A crime in the Midwest and the United States for that matter has become an expected activity rather than a shock. Every tv show and news hour shows crimes that have occurred. Crimes against children and women are going on every day and the violence does not stop there. Murder and sex crimes are becoming just part of our everyday expectations. This is a major change from how things were years ago. With all this though I still find our culture in a much better situation than some

...after he was murdered. His body was floating in the water with a heavy object tied to his neck anchoring his body. His killers were arrested and were put on trial but they were found not guilty for what they had done to him. Emmett’s mother saw what they had done to her child, and demanded that they would have an open cast sighting at the funeral so that everyone knew what had happened to her son.At first people ignored it like it was a normal thing but then they started to take the matter very seriously. James Dean killed in car accident by: Teseney Scales The actor James Dean, age 24, died in a car crash. James was driving to an auto rally in Salinas, California when he had crashed head-on into a 1950 Ford Tudor with his new Porsche 550 Spyder. Rebel Without a Cause was released today, which caused James Dean’s death to soar to cult status even though he was already a famous actor. James, who is forever frozen as the talented, misunderstood, rebellious youth, will always remain the symbol of teenage angst. Two hours after James Dean was pulled over by the police, Donald Turnupseed, the owner of the 1950 Ford, had pulled out in front of the Porsche. He was traveling east on Highway 466 and was tempting to turn left onto Highway 41. He had started to make his turn before he saw the roaring Porsche hurling towards him. Without time to turn the two cars crashed into each other head-on. The injuries of the victims in the accident were very critical. Turnupseed, owner of the Ford...

Magnesium

Weit gefehlt! An was liegt das?

Healthy vs. Happy

...Healthy Vs. Happy As a personal fitness trainer and a woman that has dealt with obesity and depression, I will explain from real life experience the relationship between health and happiness. I will also give examples of research proving how being healthy will help sustain cognitive ability as we grow older, providing a happier more fulfilling life. I was once 225 pounds, my ideal weight is 140 pounds. I would eat anything I wanted, and suffered mentally from my life style choices. I had bouts of depression and was ashamed of how I looked, making my self-esteem plummet. I suffered from headaches which made me very irritable. Than one day something happened that would change my life forever. As I was driving to work one morning, I blacked out. When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a town I did not know, and I had no recollection of driving there. I went to the doctor and was told my blood sugar had dropped very low. After doing some tests he told me I suffered from hypoglycemia; a condition where sugar levels are abnormally low. This is why I was having mood swings, headaches, and blackouts. The doctor told me to I needed eat a healthy diet and lose weight or in time I would end up with diabetes. Research has proven weight has an enormous effect on health by impacting everything from heart disease and stroke to mental issues like anxiety and depression (Witt & Mossler, 2010). Once I was able to take control of my eating habits some wonderful side...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...

Jersey City Community Assessment

...JERSEY CITY COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT EVELYNE WILLIAMS JAISAMMA THOMAS CHAMBERLAIN COLLEGE OF NURSING NUR 419 NURSING PROCESS IN THE COMMUNITY In many ways, the history of Jersey City is the history of America. From the earliest Dutch settlement in 1660 to the present day, Jersey City has seen its share of exploration, innovation, slavery, reform, immigration, industry, commerce, terrorism, war and peace and survived. Jersey City's population reached 299,000 in 1950. Residents and businesses, lured to suburbs accessible by new highways, began to leave the city in the 1950s. In response, older brownstone row homes were rehabilitated and massive downtown redevelopment projects were sponsored by private, municipal, state, and federal government dollars. Liberty State Park opened in 1976, and the first New Jersey Waterfront Marathon was run in 1985. By the late 1980s, Jersey City had become an alternate site for businesses fleeing high rent and other business costs in New York City. Jersey City was the only one of the state's six largest cities to gain both in population and employment during the recession of the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1994, ten major firms relocated to the city, bringing more than 6,000 new jobs. Nearly 30 firms moved to or began operations within the city during the 1990s, and the skyline was transformed from rail yards and warehouses along the Hudson River to modern office towers and trendy artist's neighborhoods. Massive...
