Nurse Practitioner
As a nurse practitioner, assessing a client’s health literacy, culture and language would be my first step in dealing with clients with poor adherence to care regimens. Providing patient forms and educational materials that are appropriate from cultural, linguistic, and literacy standpoints (Singleton 2009), or providing, if necessary an interpreter, would ensure along with return demonstration that the client can adhere to care regimens.
I could make a difference in the APN’s role compared to my present role in professional nursing by enabling me to diagnose, manage, treat and deliver primary care equal to physician-provided care, but in a more cost-effective manner. Nurse Practitioners provide a more holistic approach to health care as opposed to expensive acute care settings, prescribe less and order less diagnostic tests Numerous studies have shown that the cost of services provided by nurse practitioners is generally less than the cost of the same services provided by a physician (Bauer 2010).
Having further education and an advanced practice background would allow me more autonomy. I could offer a broad range of services (exams, ordering labs, writing scripts, etc...) and have options to work in a variety of healthcare settings (Peds, ER, clinics, etc...). Having an advanced practice background would also give me an opportunity to offer education and counseling to those who poorly adhere to care regimens, fail to keep appointments and follow up visits, or those who lack financial resources, all while continuing to focus on and guide clients in both health promotion and disease prevention.

...PYaidelyn Alonso SLS1125: Matos 4/20/12 Nurses: “Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow” Growing up in a house hold of medical personnel, such as my mother and my aunt and other close relatives has really inspired me to become a Nurse Practitioner, but most of all my inspiration has come due to the death of my father. I want to help patients who may have false hope, who may think that there’s nothing anyone can do, I want to give patients hope, and I will devote my life to make a difference in the medical field. Although it won’t be easy, I know there will be obstacles I have to overcome, I think anything is possible if you persevere and if you commit yourself to do something that you love. At the end of the day you made at least one person’s life more enjoyable and filled them with hope, that’s what I’ll be thinking every night before I lay my head on my pillow. A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced training in diagnosing and treating illnesses. Nurse Practitioners prescribe medication which usually RN’s cannot do, as well as treat illnesses, and administer physical exams. The difference between an NP and a physician is that they focus on prevention, wellness and education. To be more specific Nurse Practitioners may specialize in either Neonatal Care with new born and baby’s or Geriatric Health, Adult Health, Oncology, Family Health and Psychiatric/Mental Health. Personally I love trauma centers and the Emergency Room, I’m quick on my feet and I do...

National Patient Safety Guidelines are an important tool to help standardize the patient safety procedures. The role of the family nurse practitioner in helping patients is unquestionable and they are the cornerstones of modern medical practice. Introduction Today’s family nurse comes with in depth knowledge of medicine and is board certified. The responsibilities that have to be fulfilled by such a practitioner embrace health as a way of living and they focus on both treatment and prevention. In recent times, with transitional care gaining widespread acceptance the family nurse practitioner is being granted more decision-making authority although in certain states they are still under a physician’s supervision. The National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) were put forward by the joint commission for the first time in 2002. The aim of introducing these goals was to deal with patient safety issues and specify certain prerequisites for accreditation (Fairman et al., 2011). Discussion The 2015 NPSG’s provide great scope for a family nurse practitioner to improve...

...ROLES OF A NURSE PRACTITIONER Sabine Dorsainvil NSG5000 South University The role of a family nurse practitioner is a fundamental portion of the future of healthcare. As a testament to their commitment and excellence nurse practitioners are being chosen as provider of choice by millions of Americans. Becoming a skilled provider is a dynamic process that occurs over time. Effective role development is essential in becoming a dynamic, compassionate, and knowledgeable clinician. Political Perspective Not all threats to our nation derive from foreign enemies. Our nation suffers within our own borders due to chronic illnesses, rising medical costs, wasted resources, poor coordination of care, and a lack of nationalized healthcare. “America’s health care system is in crisis: It is a ‘sick care’ system, not a health care system” (Blumenthal, 2012). The current healthcare system is fragmented, mismanaged, and poorly financed. Americans receive healthcare insurance through various means, such as government run programs, like Medicare and Medicaid, privately through their employer, private pay, or the purchase through an open market. Regardless of the many healthcare options the United States has to offer, 14.7% of the population remains uninsured (Shi & Singh, 2015, p. 199). “The existence of multiple payers makes the system cumbersome” and poses a billing and collection nightmare for healthcare providers (Shi &...
