One of the most interesting topics when holding a conversation about life is “What is your profession”. The question that will more than likely follow is “What made you choose Nursing?” It never takes me long to answer that question as I carefully evaluate every long-term choice. Far before I was even able to enter nursing school, I was I was assessing my goals and the routes to get there. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life. I needed something that would be meaningful for self-satisfaction. In addition whatever this career path would be I wanted variety of options, no setting restrictions, career advancement, and a little room for schedule flexibility. The last thing anyone needs is to spend a ton of loan money on a career they will hate. I want to make more money usually the reason people pick a career. However I wanted to make more money doing something I love. Loving my choice of profession is a vital key for me. Not loving my career choice would defeat the purpose of differentiating between a job and a career. In addition it is an easy way to set yourself up to be successful as it comes unsurprisingly. Choosing a nursing career means; I wouldn’t have to push myself to do something I don’t want to just for a pay check. It is simple I love taking care of people and it is something that has always come naturally. Nursing careers allows flexibility as there are different needs in different environments that calls for Nurses. This allows 24 hour shift availability. For the morning person there is the day shift. Designed for the guy that’s not so nice before noon, there is a second shift. Then you have the night owls that love to work all night, thirds shift. This is also beneficial to mom’s like me, which would like time off for business and time with their children. Likewise a lot of mom’s choose the three day 12 hour shifts either day or night. Lastly reasons people change gears in profession is because they either get bored, want to do more, or just a need for a new environment in general. Nursing and it’s many demands in a variety of care settings; offers room for changes. In example, A RN in a nursing home may have the same core responsibilities but a very different routine of expectations, and daily task as the nurse in the ER. Similarly The ED nurses expectations may different from the requirements of the nurse on a regular med surge floor. Also Nursing career advancement comes with or without education. You can advance to a charge nurse without formal education yet with a little more training. Contrarily becoming a Nurse Manager would take a little more education. However it may need to happen the options are there without spending thousands of dollars on education in the wrong career.
