Department Plan for Nursing Department

As the Director of the Nursing Department at Riverview Hospital, I would like to present a department plan for the long term care facility that is currently being planned. This plan will discuss the staffing needs for the facility to ensure patients are receiving the best quality care, maintaining education and training of staff, and I will make my recommendations on policies that should be implemented.

First and foremost the matter of staffing the facility with the mandatory amount of well qualified medical staff as required by the Federal and State governments is of utmost importance. Considering the size of our facility we shall no fewer than five direct care personnel, on duty during …show more content…
First, all medical staff will keep all licensees and certifications up to date, along with TB tests and vaccinations. Failure to do so will result in suspension from the facility until all are current. No cell phones will be permitted outside of the breakroom, this is to ensure patient’s privacy is protected and to enable staff to remain focused on the tasks they are assigned. Any staff member who is on the clock caught with a cellular device of any kind will receive a write up, after a third write up employee will be terminated. Third, any staff member, medical or otherwise, with any skin lesions or rashes will not be permitted to have any direct contact with patients until condition has fully cleared. Any staff member with a persistent cough will be required to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose to prevent the spread of airborne illnesses. The facility will be a smoke free facility, no staff member patient, or visitor will be permitted to smoke within 200 feet of the facility. Finally, any staff member caught being abusive, verbal, physically, or mentally, to any persons in the facility patient, visitor or other employee will be terminated on the spot. Any staff member found being neglectful to a patients needs will also be terminated on the spot. Any unacceptable behaviors such as “stealing company property, engaging in sexual harassment, disrespectful or insubordinate behavior” (smallbusiness.chron.com) are also subject to disciplinary action that could result in
