Nursing Internship Paper

...Throughout my internship at Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, I have developed Advanced Generalist Social Work Practice Competency 2 skills, which is to Engage Diversity and Difference in Practice. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the nursing home with regard to its commitment to supporting equality and challenging oppression in its approach to diversity among its staff. I will include a strategy on how to address cultural differences among staff and residents. Diversity among staff is very important in Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center that I am interning at this year. The nursing home already understand that bringing diversity of voices in the nursing home from different racial, cultural and economic backgrounds is the right thing to do to meet the needs of all the residents at the nursing home. I have seen that increasing diversity at all staff levels in the nursing home has resulted in better patient outcomes and a deeper connection to the community. A disconnection between staff and the residents that the nursing home serve can present a cultural problem that must be overcome to provide patient-centered care....

Delegation Paper Nursing

...Delegation Paper Delegation and assignment of nursing activities are important parts of the implementation component of practice for the registered nurse and licensed practical nurse. The licensed nurse may delegate and assign nursing care activities to other licensed nurses or unlicensed assistive personnel. This is based on their own licensed level, assessment of the client’s status, clinical competence of licensed and unlicensed personnel, and factors in each practice setting. Before assigning and delegating nursing activities to staff, the nurse needs information about the staff so that they can confidently assign them to the patients. One must know the legal roles in RNs and LPNs before delegation can occur. Delegation by RNs and LPNs must be within their scope or practice. Duties and responsibilities vary in different states. According to the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act in the state of Massachusetts, nurses may assign and delegate the UAP any activities that do not require nursing assessment and judgment during implementation. In addition, they can allow the UAP to collect, report, and document simple data. Furthermore, UAP may be involved in activities that assist the patient in meeting basic human needs such as nutrition, hydration, mobility, comfort, elimination, socialization, rest and hygiene. In the state of Massachusetts, there are four nursing activities that must not be delegated to the patients. These activities include nursing assessments...

...but the best for them. It is impressive to see how all the nurses care for their patients no matter what the situation is. All the nurses here share the value of helping the patience to the best of their ability. The nurses are really big into being the patient advocate. No matter what the situation is with the patient, the nurse always stands up for what the patient wants and always make sure the patient gets what they think is best for them. All of the nurses and doctors that I shadowed throughout the past three weeks showed the characteristics of being loving. Any profession in the health field requires you to be loving so I was very excited when I got to apply my knowledge of the grad-at-grad when I was shadowing. The profession of nursing has an enormous impact on our society and culture. In our society today there are alto of injuries and diseases. While the doctors preform the surgery, the nurses are the ones who actually take car of the patients from day to to day. One of the great responsibilities that nurses have is teaching. They have to teach families how to care for people who cannot care for themselves. Teaching is a big part of their jobs. This impacts society because they are teaching very important things to people that could potentially save other people’s life. Nurses also have to provide the best quality of care to their patients. Spirituality In Nursing Paper

...Spirituality: The Effect on Holistic Patient Care in Nursing Emily Engel, Kristy Ensley, Danielle Freeman, Sarah Gomez, Danica Graafstra, Nataliya James Skagit Valley College The United States is diversified in many ways including freedom of religion and spiritual practices. Spirituality does not only apply to practices held sacred within the religion but also how many people survive and cope with health and illness. Holistic nursing care embraces all that encompasses a person, including spirituality. With this diversified population, nurses face the dilemma of how to provide holistic care in a system that focuses on disease and not holism. Often times, patients feel the need to leave spirituality at the door when seeking care in a hospital, and in turn, a piece of who the patient is gets left behind as well. This may be due to feelings of awkwardness about showing faith or feeling judged for having any degree of spirituality. Either way,...

...#1 #37 #68 #74 #78 #85 #93 In fact, “One of the most important and sacred duties of the nurse is advocating for their patient. Whether you speak up for them because they don't have the education to know medical jargon or you speak up because they are unable to do so for themselves, advocating is the crucial pivot on which patient safety lies. You will have to advocate for your patient to the doctor, the family, the spouse, and sometimes your fellow nurses. Advocating is about speaking up when a problem goes unnoticed. Nurses are responsible for the trust patients put in them.” (Lampert, 2014) (C. #78) In my nursing experience, I had this newly admitted patient who was diagnosed of cancer and needs cancer treatment. During our rounds...

Nursing Career Research Paper

...Nursing in general is a broad aspect of the medical field. But in reality nurses are needed through every specialty when dealing with health. Nursing first appealed to me when I would visit the hospital or a group home and see people who needed to be helped. I always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field but didn’t want to become a doctor. In the nursing field, there are different areas within the medical field you can go to. I want to pursue this field because of the many options you can choose and I like to care for people. You can become a neonatal nurse, and work with newborn babies and parents, or you can be a surgical nurse and assist a surgeon during surgery. Currently I’m considering becoming a RN or a neonatal nurse. For nurse education requirements, a student can choose to train to become a license practical nurse (LPN) or a registered nurse (RN). All nurses are required...

Philosophy of Nursing Paper

...skilled as the other doctors or nurses but they had something more. They genuinely cared about me as a person. These experiences as a patient and as a nurse have shown me the the value of caring in the health care profession. With this background I found most nursing theories to be less than satisfying. I liked different theorists for different situations in nursing. I could not totally agree with everything from each theorist I explored. Now, with my deeper understanding of nursing theories, I understand theories are to be a guide for nurses to follow and make the theory their own (Friberg & Creasia, 2016). Probably due to my experiences described above, Jean Watson’s theory of nursing based on the philosophy and science of caring (Friberg & Creasia, 2016) struck a chord with me. Dr. Jean Watson is the founder and director of the Watson Caring Science Institute. She obtained a R.N. Diploma in Nursing, a B.S. in Nursing, a M.S. in psychiatric mental-health nursing with a minor in psychology, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology and counseling. Her philosophy of nursing is based on the belief that the caring relationship between nurse and patient forms the core of nursing practice. She does not believe that nursing skills are unimportant. Skill in the use of modern...
