...Observatin Observation A good way to assess a situation between people is to observe their behaviors and actions in conversation. How did they interact with each other? Where their non-verbal messages intertwined with the verbal ones? Where they sitting closely or at a distance? The paper will cover one event where these types of observations were made during the duration of a one-hour dinner at a local restaurant. Background The local Applebee’s restaurant is one of a mixed environment of families’ mature and young adults. On a Saturday early evening, a man and woman were dining at the table next to my table where my family was enjoying dinner. The restaurant was moderately busy but not over capacity and sitting was still open for the patrons. The waitress sat them down at a table, he holding out her chair to sit and then sitting himself. Interaction Behaviors The man and woman were business casual, him with starched kakis and shirt, her with a casual dress and heels. They were not overdressed for the restaurant, but not casually dressed in shorts, tee shirts and sandals or tennis shoes. They sat opposite sides of the table in conversation when the waitress arrived to start the ordering process. The distance between them indicated more of a personal relationship than social indicating they were semi familiar with each other (DeVito, 2009). He nodded to the lady, indicating she should order her first and then gave his order to the waitress. He...

...Intro I observed a child of 10 months. He is a male child and is not in preschool or any institution. I did not interact with the child I just watched them as they played and interacted with their mother. The observation was done on the 9th of March during spring break. I visited my cousins and their child in their home. The father works in his office throughout the week and the mother is a stay-at-home mom. But the father spends a large amount of his time with his child. The parents do try hard to communicate and interact with the child as often as possible. I believe this information is necessary to understand how much interaction the child has with his parents. Cognitive development Johnny would be in the sensorimotor stage. Johnny kept wanting to play with my cell phone. It looked as if he could only understand the object by feeling the object. Johnny is starting to show intention behaviors by doing things like reaching for my cell phone. He was intentionally demonstrating that he wants my cell phone. To ensure that his behavior was intentional I would take the phone away from him and he would begin to cry. After seeing his negative reaction, I then showed him the phone again and he reached for it a second time....

...1) First impressions of child within initial 15 minutes: The child was very friendly to me right when I came into the classroom she greeted me saying hello. My target child is very quiet she did not speak at all to anyone she would just do her assigned class work. Indeed she is very neat. She had no papers on her desk and inside of her desk was very organized. 2) Describe the activities the child participated in during your observation. During my observation for my first time visit she was seeing her occupational therapist. The first assignment she told me target child to do was to get four marble balls out of silly pudding. She completed this lesson fully and this was a great hands activity. The next activity she did with my target child...

...I chose to do my child observation at a local school, Lemme Elementary. It was on October 20th right after school ended at the after school program. The child I observed was named Scarlett, she is 5 years old and in Kindergarten. She has nothing atypical and is a great learner. She is very respectful, and loves to color. She is very shy and reserved, but when asked to do something she listens very well. Scarlett is very adventurous in her art and is eager to learn new things in the classroom. Scarlett chose to draw a picture of her mom, playing on the playground with her friends, and a watermelon. She said she always draws pictures of her mom, because she loves her. The playground was where she gets to have fun during school with her friends....

...For the participant observation project I chose to do Chapters book store, which was located at Orchard park mall. The dates I went were; first 26th of July around 1.00 pm, second day was on the 31st of July around 4.00 pm, and finally on the 3rd of August around 11.00 pm. Through critical thinking and deep observation this article’s focus will be; rituals, gender codes, and consumerism (Schultz et al. 2012). Chapters book store is about selling books: the concept of consumerism is deeply tied to selling books. People buy books they prefer and due to consumer demand more books are brought in and sold. Furthermore, this repeated process of buying and selling has become some sort of ritual. There is a repeated process of consumerism at play here, this book buying process is out of daily routine, then there seems to be a schema which is buying books, all of these fits very well with the definition of ritual (Schultz et al. 2012). The people working at chapters and its customers are performing this ritual on a daily basis. There were other rituals such the process of buying of books as well. The customer has to always head to the cashier, the...

... The settings I studied were two grocery stores. The first store was a college campus grocery store/deli. This store was small and had few employees. The atmosphere of this store was casual and somewhat relaxed. The atmosphere was created by the employees’, their interactions with the customers, and the types of services being offered. The employees wore jeans and polo uniform shirts which is very casual and nothing like business attire or a full uniform like larger grocery store might make them wear. The interactions were the biggest part that created this casual atmosphere and the reality of this store (Lerum, 2001). The employees and customers had many similarities such as for the most part they were around the same age, they were students, and a part of the same university. For these reasons they had somewhat informal conversations and both parties were friendly in a way that seemed like they knew each other. Occasionally employees would stand and talk with each other or with customers instead of finding something to do to be busy. Sometimes an employee and a customer might know each other and engage in longer conversations. The services being offered was that customers could go to the deli and make their own sandwiches or choose one and have things changed to it. This required the employees to ask questions, interact, and often led to them joking and having conversations with customers. Customers felt free to ask questions and make requests and engage in the process of their...

...influenced by others, and how they act on their own. I will begin by explaining the children I have observed and the area of development I decided to focus on. Instead of only choosing one child to observe, I was lucky enough to know someone that has three children of all the same age to observe. At the age of 14, my good friend Shelby Nastase became a proud sister of triplet brothers, two of the boys are identical, Jake and Andrew, and one is fraternal, Alec. The boys are now at the age of six, each with their own vibrant personalities. Although all boys look very much alike, especially the twins, each has their own mind and personality that would defiantly make them their own individual. During my observations, I quickly decided that my point of interest in writing this paper would be to focus on the social behaviors between all three of the children. I not only decided on observing how the siblings interact with each other, but I also decided it would be a good idea to see how they interacted with other children their own age. I also decided that when I observed the siblings when they were...

...Have you ever met someone and felt instantly connected? What about an entire group of people? I have. I went into this assignment thinking no big deal, ill eat some tacos, write a paper and if anything I got some good food out of it. But I got more than that. I got a new found respect for a new culture and a group of friends that I never would have met otherwise. For my observation I went to Pablo’s Tacos in the town of Blue Island, IL. It is a small town rite over the boarder of Chicago. It is a small Mexican restaurant on Western Ave. It is family owned and unless you asked you might not even know they have a sit down area because it is hidden. My first trip there was supposed to be pure observation I didn’t want to interact much just observe and eat. My friend and I have been at a Cheerleading Competition all morning down the street at the high school. We sat down and began to order when one of the cheerleaders walked in with her family. I coached her the year before and she was very excited to see me outside a cheerleading setting. She ran up and yelled “Coach” The owner congratulated her on doing so well at the competition and gave her a cookie. She sat with us and talked and talked about how this season had gone. We ordered our food and when it came out it was double what I had expected. When we joked about it with the waitress (the owners wife) She told me “we take care of our own.” She thanked me for coaching her granddaughter and said that she really had...

...Observation Analysis Constance Clark 506 March 3, 2013 Kim Scoggins Observation Analysis The observation was in Ms. Small, Reading and English classroom. Ms. Small works with 7th graders in Reading and English. Ms. Small uses a theory known as constructivism. When she works with her class she is looking for the meaning behind everything that students say. She calls it “playing devil’s advocate” as students respond to one question, and she immediately leads to the opposite side of the argument. Ms. Small looks at the end result when teaching and says that the facts in isolation do not mean very much. Students have these mental perceptions about ideas and information being taught, but as a teacher Ms. Small brings those ideas into reality visually, verbally, and with direct hands on activities. She says that the quality of the information is more important than the quality. The students are asked not to memorize a story and complete a multiple choice (or multiple guess as she calls it) for her class, but to interpret it, act it out, or defend the characters in a mock trail. Educational theory that I would suggest that could have been used is constructivism. Constructivism is when people construct their own individual psychological models of the world in order to make sense of their experiences. Ms. Small could have enriched the lesson to real life situations to connect to the students in today’s society. A professor can use different educational theories in a classroom...

...Social Interaction among students fails because of cell phones Technology to communicate INTRO: Since the last decade, cell phone use has gained an incredible amount of popularity throughout society attracting audiences of all ages. Technology has significantly improved from what it used to be cell phones especially. The behavior I choose to be is the new way that students interact with schools. Walking to school every day I noticed that students don’t talk to each other anymore. Even when they are together on a table, walking or even during class, there is no more a face to face interaction. Technology has become the new face to interact with one another. The theory on this observation is the social behavior perspective. This theory explains how people interact with the environment. Even when they are in groups dung lunch most of them are on their cell phones. Student's face to face communication is fading by the frequency of texting, not merely in the sense that they speak is becoming abbreviated but the focus associated with talking is becoming distracted and scarce. BACKGROUND: “From a survey 800 American young people between ages 12 and17 regarding their use of mobile phones . The researchers report that half of the teens were sending 50 or more messages a day , with older teenage girls sending an average of 100 messages daily”. (Chin, Jen, Fan, 2013). Clearly, text messaging on mobile phones is an important element in the lives of many American teenagers...

...| Observation Paper | High School Culture | | | 6/30/2013 | Organizational Leadership BMGT365 | | Having a mission statement for employees to focus on gives them a clear vision of what to strive for on a daily basis. A clear vision that is ethical helps to develop a healthy culture that is strong and cohesive.(Daft, 2011) In my observation of the culture of a high school staff, I find areas that are strongly aligned to the vision and areas that are in need of improvement. The mission statement of the school is to prepare students to learn and be successful in a supportive environment that encourages rigorous standards, celebrates cultural diversities, promotes teamwork, and molds students into leaders and contributing citizens in a technology rich and evolving society. From this mission statement a motto was formed “Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow”. The school has a clear vision that each student is endowed with the fundamental competence and intelligence needed to commence achieving their individual goals in life. (Westlake High School, 2000) The schools values have worth, merit and importance and start as a solid base to develop the right culture to reach goal or vision of the school. The key values of our high school are that we believe that each student has value; learning should take place in a safe, structured environment that is aware of social, emotional, and physical wellness of each student. Education is the shared responsibility...

...Running head: Observation of TGI Friday’s Observation of TGI Friday’s Psychology of Human Sexuality – PSYC 332 6380 University of Maryland University College Alicia Montague July 12, 2015 The TGI Friday’s is located not too far from my job. I have never dined at that particular location before, but heard from several people that it is a very lively on Friday’s. I figured TGIF on a Friday should be interesting. As I turned off of the main road I can see the huge TGIF sign reassuring me that I was heading in the right direction. The exterior of the building is really nice. Perfectly manicured lawn, shrubs, trees, and patches of yellow and purple flowers surrounds the brownish taupe structure. There are also several red and white stripped awnings all around the building, except the one by the main entrance, which is black with a red and white TGIF sign. I found a parking space not too far from the entrance. Above the entrance doors is a stripe that says “In Here, It’s Always Friday". I pulled open the F-shaped handles on the door and walked in. As soon as I entered TGIF I was greeted by an elderly woman who offered me a menu and asked how many people would be seated. I accepted the menu and told her that I would prefer to sit in the bar area, so she told me to pick any seat I desired. I usually prefer to sit in booths, but for the purpose of this research, I decided it would be best if I was seated at the high top table in the corner, which gave me a view of the entrance...

Pernet And Child Observation Ben Brown April 7, 2002 Report Child And Parent Behavior Observation I am almost always surrounded by the interactions between children and their parents. I hear it at my work, I hear it in restaurants, but most of all I hear it at my house. My mother owns a daycare and every night I listen parents being hit by a barrage of questions. When children are being picked up they always have a couple of questions for their parents. Children are always asking about the meal for the night or whether they can go over to a friend's house or have some body over. Every night I see 12 different children with twelve different parents and it seems that each parent acts differently then the next. When I thought of observing the children that attend my mothers daycare I decide that I should observe the interactions between the daycares "Problem Child" and his mother. The boy that I chose to observe seemed to have no respect for anyone or anything. He often made obvious lies and played practical jokes that physically hurt the other children. On the Friday night that I observed him and his mother...

...occupation, education, political standing, housing, and ownership of possessions. In addition to these factors are the superficial diverse aspects of personal hygiene, manners, morals, attitude, and materialist items such as dress, hair, vehicles, and jewelry. Some of the elements are obvious and can be seen while others are considered more private. The objective of this paper is to share an observation of a social class other than my own and in conclusion develop a personal action plan based on what I learn and how I will use my new found knowledge as it relates to diversity consciousness. Observation I consider myself middle-class based on my college degree, profession, income, and ownership of a home and vehicle. Because I consider myself middle-class, I chose to observe what I believe to be members of upper and lower class. I decided to take advantage of the back to school season and choose two locations where school children and their parents would buy clothing. I chose the stores based on reputation. I spent time at the upscale Macy’s in the Mall of America and at the secondhand store Goodwill. To make my observations not so obvious I browsed the clothing sections and even tried items on. Macy’s was definitely more out of my comfort zone because it is so expensive and fancy. I even felt uncomfortable in the restroom. Another factor that increased my discomfort knew I didn’t look as well as the other customers. I was among individuals with purses that cost more than my mortgage...
