Obsession Islam is a religion of peace, this statement may be true within the religion. From early on in life many Islamic countries teach their children that western civilizations and cultures are the enemy of their people. Jews and the western civilization are the cause to the suffering (Jihad) and the hardships to the Muslim people is being taught on a daily basis. The only way to advance the prosperity and end Muslim suffering is to kill every Jew and anyone living within the western culture and values. They are taught that any means to advance their cause and kill their enemy will be praised for their sacrifice of giving their life. Children are encouraged to be a suicide bomber and mothers are encouraged to allow their children to blow themselves up to kill. Anyone that is a non believer of Muslim faith is referred to as Kafir. The Infidels are considered like cattle. In their country any Kafir person could be sold in the market as a slave or even killed for no reason. These beliefs and teachings are teaching hate and no chance of peace from an early age for a large percentage of a large culture in the world. Muslims are not allowed to tell a lie or kill another Muslim, but to kill or lie to an Infidel is good if it expands and advances the religion. Governments allow training camps and leaders of extremist groups to live within their borders. The television, media, and entertainment industries encourage the Jihad cause of Killing Jews and Americans. Their government officials tell the American people they do not support the terrorist activities but to their people and other Muslims they support the cause. They also accept US aid and military support to their country but hate the American way of life. The Jihadists have learned the laws of free speech within the United States. More and more Muslims are immigrating to the United States and are

...someone’s creative activity, it may be inferred that this matter is significant in the life of the artist. Many writers who lived in colonial America wrote poems, stories, and even novels pertaining to the subject of religion. After all, these authors have ancestors who left England in pursuit of religious freedom. As with every other aspect of life, in writing there are those people whose beliefs and opinions do not match the acceptable norm. An individual’s level of religious devotion can range anywhere from complete denial to subtle skepticism to fanatic belief. Nathaniel Hawthorne, one famous author from this time period, uses religious references in many of his stories. More specifically, Hawthorne chose to examine how sin and obsession can isolate an individual from those around him. This separation that Hawthorne’s characters often face causes them to lose everything that was once precious to them. Goodman Brown and Minister Hooper successfully sever themselves from their loved ones and their communities because they can not accept or forgive the sins of others. Any moderately intelligent person understands that no human is infallible. No lack of intelligence exists when referring to Dr. Rappaccini or Dr. Baglioni. Both men have chosen to commit their time to expanding their knowledge. The pursuit of excessive intelligence leads to a man, void of emotion, who will sacrifice his loved ones to achieve greatness. The nightmare that Goodman Brown has about the dark...

Selfie Obsession

...Section-1 INTRODUCTION Background of the study (Credibility in Wikipedia) A selfie is a type of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Selfies are often associated with social networking, like Instagram. They are often casual, are typically taken either with a camera held at arm's length or in a mirror, and typically include either only the photographer or the photographer and as many people as can be in focus. Selfies taken that involve multiple people are known as "group selfies" or "ussies". Robert Cornelius, an American pioneer in photography, produced a daguerreotype of himself in 1839 which is also one of the first photographs of a person. The concept of uploading group self-taken photographs (now known as super selfies) to the internet, although with a disposable camera not a smartphone, dates to a webpage created by Australians in September 2001, including photos taken in the late 1990s (captured by the Internet Archive in April 2004). The earliest usage of the word selfie can be traced as far back as 2002. It first appeared in an Australian internet forum (ABC Online) on 13 September 2002. Um, drunk at a mates 21st, I tripped ofer [sic] and landed lip first (with front teeth coming a very close second) on a set of steps. I had a hole about 1cm long right through my bottom lip. And sorry about the focus, it was a selfie. The term "selfie" was discussed by photographer Jim Krause in 2005, although photos in the...

Characteristics of Obsession

...persistent disturbing preoccupation; an obsession. They are controlled by this unwanted yet unavoidable urge to compete an objective. Unfortunately for them and many others like them, their objective is unreachable, leaving them utterly unfulfilled. Obsession has been defined by dictionary as “a compulsive preoccupation with fixed idea or unwanted feeling or emotion, often with symptoms of anxiety.” It can often lead to an addictive habit that becomes hard to resist or a habit where a person becomes dependent upon someone or something. For example, a gambling addiction may result from a person’s obsession to win; a smoking addiction may result from a person’s obsession to ingest nicotine. Other types of obsession may also include: a person’s obsession with hair or looks, with weight, or feeling the need to look young. Throughout my life, I have experienced one of these obsessions. When I was twelve years old, I was obsessed with weight and how to be thin. Since I was really chubby at that time, I began skipping lunch. My obsession with wanting to look thin resulted in a negative effect; my skin became so thin, and my ribs could be seen. Another example of a person’s obsession would be my younger sister’s obsession with appearances, looks, hair, and style as a result of her often being vain due to her adolescence that she‘s been going through. Lastly, another person’s obsessive habit that I can refer to would be my cousin’s obsession with winning all the time, due to his cocky...

A Bad Obsession

Authorities had said that a fan had dressed up as an employee and gave him a drink that contains adhesive!" the T.V stated. In Collin Palmer's essay, "A Healthy Obsession," he explained how being obsessed is okay, and it does not affect anyone in a negative way, but it helps people in a positive way. Fans these days had been violating idols' private life, and they would do anything to get close to their favorite celebrities. Fans who stalks celebrities these days can take it too far which can cause them to do negative things to themselves and everyone else around them. Fans these days that stalk celebrities would imitate their favorite idols in many ways whether it is good or bad. In "The Impact Celebrities Have on Our Lives," written by Deborah King, she stated, "For instance, if you are not centered and balanced energetically, and you don't feel so good about who you are. you are much more likely to follow your favorite celebrities and wish that you could be them." What King meant is that fans do not like how they are or how they look like. They would most likely follow what their favorite celebrity's look or their way of acting so they could be like them, which can lower their self- esteem. In the same article by Deborah King, she stated, "The sad fact is that we are more enthralled by celebrities who have bad...

The design of the iPhone was mainly conceptualized by Jonathan Ive, a British designer who was also the principal designer for most Apple products such as the iMac, iPod and iPad. The iPhone became the very first smart phone without a hard keypad for dialing, the original only touchscreen device. The Misplaced Obsession with Pacs

...The Misplaced Obsession with PACs PACs are committees formed by business, labor, or other special interest groups to raise money and make contributions to the campaigns of political candidates whom they support. Money and politics always go together in the political environment, and PACs are a major source of campaign funds. Larry Sabato argues that this obsession with PACs is misplaced because PACs fulfill the role Madison created for diverse and active faction. He demonstrated how the combination of money and politics is a long-lasting relationship that has been a part of politics, he wrote, “The rapid rise of PACs has engendered much criticism, yet many of the charges made against political action committees are exaggerated and dubious. While the widespread use of the PAC structure is new, special interest money of all types has always found its way into politics” He argues that interest money has always existed, through the use of PACs, handling of this money can be done in a more systematic. Sabato also argues the lack of clear evidence that PAC money can "buy" votes on legislation. But it seems like money has a definite role in PACs to get out to the people.”Vote buying” is not supported by a careful examination of the facts. He suggests that in certain circumstances PACs money can be influential, with narrow, less visible, and specialized issues. They can also be effective in agenda setting and subcommittee votes, but he argues that most congressmen are not unduly influenced...

Our Obsession with Green Lawns

...Our Obsession with Green Lawns Eric Alan Campbell COMM215 October 13, 2014 April Adams Our Obsession with Green Lawns The manicured lawn exploded into popularity in the 1950s. The advent of inexpensive motorized lawn mowers and fertilizing chemicals made lawns a reality for the middle class. America has over 50,000 square miles of grass in cultivation. Now in 2014, California is facing a drought like none seen before in modern times. Crops are withering, lakes are running dry, fires are catching everywhere and yet, around every corner, I see manicured lawns. Vast expanses of nothing but healthy, beautiful, allergy inducing grass. It’s irresponsible, and harmful to our environment and economy. The 2013-14 rainfall season is on track to be the driest in 434 years, according to Lynn Ingram, a paleo-climatologist at UC Berkley. The concern generated by this drought brought together a group of emergency planners and water managers for an event known as the “California Drought Outlook Forum” on February, 20 2014 in Sacramento, California. They determined that the water outlook for the state was similar to the droughts in the 1970s. However, our water obligations have increased greatly in the following decades. Marty Hoering of the NOAA states, “The stress created by the current failed rains is more severe than for similar rainfall deficits 40 years earlier.” The central focus for this concern is the substantial agricultural business that California sustains, from avocados...

America's Obsession with Fast Food

...America’s Obsession with Fast Food When people all over the world are looking for a quick, easy meal to grab on the go, fast food is the most popular solution. On any given day, about twenty-five percent of Americans visit fast food restaurants for burgers, fries, and sodas, the staples of the all-American fast food fix. The big question is, why? What lures so many people to purchase and consume food that is known to be grossly unhealthy, or better yet allow their families to consume? The answer is simple: it’s easy, it’s filling, it’s convenient and it’s inexpensive. In today’s world, most households are two- income households, meaning both parents work. Paired with after school activities and the shear time it takes to ensure that homework and bathes are done, driving through a fast food restaurant sounds pretty enticing. The bargain hunting mentality is one of the primary drivers in America’s fast food obsession. In today’s economic woes, Americans are always looking for deals. At this point, value becomes more important than nutrition. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, consumption of French fries, mainly purchased from fast food restaurants, increased by 63 percent between the 1970s and 1990s, and Americans consumed an average of 152 pounds of added sugars in 2000. Junk food is often high in unhealthy fats, sugar, sodium and/or calories, so gaining an understanding of what draws Americans to it is interesting and most can relate. ...

Hamlet's Ghost/ Influencing Obsessions

...young Hamlet. After this shocking revelation, Hamlet becomes obsessed with thoughts of death and avenging his father’s murder, which contributes to his insanity. When Hamlet speaks to his father’s ghost, his father insists that Hamlet avenge his death by killing Claudius. The ghost explains to his son that King Claudius has corrupted the nation of Denmark, has robbed him of his own life, and therefore, achieving revenge is crucial. After conversing with the ghost, Hamlet vows to seek vengeance on Claudius. This “seeking” of vengeance very quickly turns into an obsession. Hamlet’s every thought seems to revolve around his plot to kill Claudius, causing friends and family to express concern over his strange behaviors. Rumors begin to travel around Denmark that Hamlet has “gone mad,” while Hamlet claims to only be feigning his insanity. Hamlet’s soliloquy where he contemplates suicide is one example of his obsession with death. Amidst the stresses of planning Claudius’ murder, Hamlet even considers ending his own life: “To be, or not to be: that is the question” (III.i.58). In this well-known soliloquy, Hamlet brings up the point that why would someone go through the “whips and scorns of life,” grunting and sweating, when one could escape these trials and end it at any moment. Clearly, Hamlet believes that the easiest way out of his misery here on earth is by suicide. However, he...
