The sidewalk is Enrique's playground.” (Nazario, 2006). It’s easy for the reader to...

...Although, many people do not have an insight to the obstacles, complications, and effects that people who migrate experience. Sonia Nazario's novel, Enrique’s Journey, greatly portrays this insight of immigration through the journey of a boy named Enrique. Through the themes of perception versus reality and abandonment, Sonia reveals the real hardships that many other young immigrants and their families undergo as a result of chasing the American dream. Many immigrants, predominantly coming from Mexico and Central America, migrate to the U.S to escape the continuous cycle of poverty that they experience and in hope attempt to seek a brighter future for themselves and their families. Lourdes, Enrique’s mother, independently sets on a journey to America to do just so. At a young age, Lourdes’s dream of living in America was shaped by the vibrant images on television that she would see of Los Angeles, New York, and Disneyland. These images, entirely in contrast to the childhood shack that she had lived in, were engraved in her mind as she migrated to the U.S. Although, once Lourdes attempts to become situated in the U.S, her struggling reality collides with the delightful perception that she held of America. Lourdes begins to realize that Los Angeles is full of poverty and cruelty as...

...Carmen left for the United States out of love.” (Nazario 3). This is screening the many other people who are going through the same situation as others are going through due to them being migrants. It also includes “I am amazed by the dangerous journey these children make to try to be with their mothers.” (Nazario 5). All the these facts that are given provide clarification on how tough crossing to the United States can be for one. As stated by Liana in the article Story of a Boys, she mentions “These details of what children are willing to endure in order to reunite with their mothers enliven the social complexities of economically-driven chain migration (Vasseur).” The sentence shows how there are more than one individual who are living a similar storyline that the writing mentions with the example...

...Immigrants Need Support The dangers that are seen on the border have increased drastically year by year. The U.S. Border Patrol has impacting gangs, cartels and immigrants on the Mexican border. The U.S. Border Patrol faces danger when they go up against the drug cartels at the border because the people the drug cartels send across the border sometimes carry firearms, making it difficult for the border to determine if they should open fire on the person. There are many places along the U.S. border where these groups are put at high risk for safety. There is no guaranteed safety for either side, therefore based off the decision, to cross or not to cross, the consequences of what happen depends on the individual. There are people, coyotes, who know of certain parts of the border where they can help immigrants cross but they do not guarantee that they will make it across safely. Immigrant families Immigration from the Southern Mexico to the United States occurs on a freight train, “La Bestia” which takes passengers directly to the United States border, starting in Chiapas and crossing all of Mexico until the border (Watson and Jerrreat). These passengers ride on top of the train or in the freights, putting their life at risk to the point of death. One important aspect of this train is that drug cartels are in charge of the fees mounting the train. They charge what is equivalent to 100 dollars (Watson and Jerreat). Once that is paid in some form or another, they still pose many...
