Off –Roading
English-Mrs. Morrow All-Terrain Vehicles are the most exhilarating feeling in the world. Off-Roading is the recreation of riding or driving a vehicle on unsurfaced roads or tracks, which are made of materials such as sand, gravel, riverbeds, mud, snow, rocks, and other natural terrain. There all types of all terrain vehicles such as dirt bikes, ATV’s (which is quads), dune buggies, and trucks (such as Jeep’s) which all participate in different types of events or journeys. In this research paper I am going to be covering the aspects of where people can go to explore these exciting events and or journeys. Next I will be explaining how dangerous these adventures can be. Finally I will be covering how expensive these hobbies and or careers can be actually cost to participate. My first area of research I will cover where enthusiast can have an off-roading experience. All terrain vehicles can be ridden indoors and most commonly outdoors. Indoor off-roading, usually consists of events such as constructed racetracks for racing, and all so to give organizations that sponsor these events, climate controlled competitions. An example of an indoor event would be is “West Virginia’s Indoor Motocross Championship” (actionsportracing.com). “The Huntington arenacross plays host to hundreds of local mini and amateur riders along with professional riders from the Tri State area and all over the country. Thousands of loyal motorcycle racing enthusiasts pack the arena for two incredible nights of racing.” (actionsportracing.com) Outdoor off-roading is exploring and adventuring what the world has to ofter. Exploring places people never been and overcoming natures restictions on areas of the unexplored territories. Places like the Pine Barrens in New Jersey, the sand dunes of Henderson, NV, and the rocky mountains of Colorado offer hundreds of miles of unexplored territory that can all be journeyed by all terrain vehicles. Not only can off-road enthusiast journey the world, they can all so participate in events such dirt bike jumping, mountain climbing, mudding, snowmobiling, outdoor racing competitions, and many more. My next area of research is how dangerous off-roading can be. Operating an all terrain vehicle can be every dangerous if enthusiasts do not take the necessary precautions by wearing proper equipment before setting out on their adventures. Professional all terrain vehicle riders have the most exciting but dangerous careers. This is because they are risking their safety and well being every given second they are operating their machines. Performing insane stunts at maximum speed, anything can happen at the blank of an eye. Just imagine these are professionals that have this risk and dangers, the stakes are even higher for the less experienced enthusiast trying to push their luck. Proper equipment is essential before operating an all terrain vehicle.
These are some statics on the seriousness of operating all terrain vehicles: (www.aitkenbikelaw.com)
ATV accident facts and statistics - In 1985, 400,000 ATVs were in operation in the US. Today, 9.2 million ATVs are used in the United States.

ATV fatalities * Between 1982 and 2008, 9,633 people have died in ATV accidents. * 516 of these fatal ATV accident victims were in California * 2,588 of these victims were under the age of 16 (over 1,100 of these were children younger than 12) * Children under the age of 16 account for 27% of all ATV accident fatalities * In the last 10 years, the number of children killed in off-road vehicle accidents increased by 88 percent

ATV accident injuries * In 2008, 135,100 people were seriously injured in ATV accidents * Of these injured people, 28 percent-or 37,700-were under the age of 16. * Over the last 10 years, the number of children hospitalized because of ATV accident injuries increased by 109 percent * Over 44,000 children were hospitalized due to accidents on ATVs in 2005 compared to 19,300 in 1995. * The injury risk for children drivers is much higher compared to drivers older than 16, 7.6 percent and 5.1 percent respectively. * 63 percent of those children injured in ATV accidents are harmed while driving the ATV. * ATV riding has the highest risk of injuries requiring hospitalization compared to 33 other sports, including snowboarding, wrestling, football, basketball, and skateboarding.

My final area of research is about how expensive off-roading can get. The cost of these all terrain vehicles can get ridiculously expensive. Not only are these vehicles expensive from the factory which is upward of $5000 which can be seen at (atv.com). Cost of these vehicles all so depend what the enthusiast plans to obtain with the vehicle. There are so many upgrades and aftermarket parts enthusiast can buy and increase power and performance if they wish to obtain the strongest and fastest vehicle. Enthusiast can all so spend a ton of money in customizing their vehicles with things like paint jobs, chrome, upgrading suspension, tires, and much more. Plus things can get very expensive if something happens to brake on the vehicle. Fixing the vehicle can be just as much as buying a brand new one. (www.hiphopcars.com/atv-)

In conclusion, off-roading is very adventurous and self fulfilling. Even though operating an all terrain vehicle is dangerous if enthusiast do not take in the precautions to wear the right equipment and operate the vehicle appropriately. The reward of obtaining an ambition while an enthusiast is adventuring and enjoying life, gives one the ability to obtaining the confidence to strive for excellent in new adventures in his/her own life. They would be more open to newer situations, and would be more ambitious to chance a change.

My Love for Off Roading

...Well here is the story of a few jeeps... In the short time between school, homework, and Target, my free time is most enjoyed off-road in my Jeep. Chandler, Clayton, and the bass pond will keep me occupied for years to come. As long as I have a Jeep I will continue my quest to explore more trails such as The Rubicon, or Moab. The first Jeep I purchased was a 1986 Cherokee Laredo. At the time the four-wheel drive didn’t work and I didn’t care much. Weeks later I could be found cutting through the occasional field or going through a little mud. I soon learned the need for four wheel drive after a few scary situations last summer. It was about 1 A.M. and I was driving in a ditch with slippery grass from morning dew. In the ditch there was a tall grassy hill that I was thinking about driving up. With a little encouragement from my friend, I charged up the hill and as I reached the crest, my tires started slipping, as did obscenities. We slowly descended backwards down the hill, because the brakes weren’t doing their job. The pace picked up, and fear and uncertainty were riding shotgun as we turned 90 degrees on the hill. I thought a roll was inevitable as we were sliding sideways, so I hit the throttle and we slid around and then the Jeep were facing the bottom of the hill. A few weeks later I got the four wheel drive working, and since then I’ve put my passengers through more fear and fun. Ignorance and adrenalin had got me high centered in the cold raining boonies, up to my...

Design Elements

...Design Elements: Set it Off ENG 225 Design Elements: Set it Off From the beginning films have helped pinpoint different elements of design. Through these elements, both film critics and viewers have been able to identify with what the director is trying to convey. According to this week’s assignment, we are to choose a scene from movieclips.com and in a three to five page paper, analyze the mise-en-scène through the elements of design. This leads me to my chosen film, Set it Off. This movie is formed around an extreme bank robbery in which reveals the dwells upon the lives of four women. This film takes place the streets of Southern California and helps give inside as to how these women do any and everything just to get by and make it on their own. Because tragedy and poverty strikes the women’s’ lives, they matters into their own hands and turn to robbing banks to make an escape from the city and lifestyle they have been surrounded by for years. The key actors in Set it Off are the following: Queen Latifah played as Cleopatra Sims (Cleo), Vivica Fox played as Francesca Sutton (Frankie), Jada Pinkett played as Lida Newsom (Stony), and Kimberly Elise played as Tisean Williams (T.T). These four childhood friends felt that the series of unfortunate events that have constantly occurred in their lives were just enough to push them over the edge and into the world of bank robbery (Polluck & Gray, 1996). This story is set to touch those who have been...

There are many reasons the internal failures can occur including defective materials, incorrect methods or processing, or faulty equipment. * External failures are failures that are discovered after the customer has the product. This type of failure becomes very costly to the company due to increase costs of warranty work, liability, payments to customers, providing the customer with a replacement unit, and the costs of handling customer complaints. The three types of costs are not independent from each other. There is a trade-off relationship between the costs. For example an increase in prevention and appraisal costs results in an...

Self-Sustainable Living: Why?

...where the renewable energy industry may be headed in the near future and what drives people to make this drastic life change. Sustainable Living: Why? Introduction This is a qualitative study on the individual and group reasoning behind a drastic lifestyle change that seems to be growing in popularity around the word. Unbiased data will be collected via different forms of methodology in order to discover the thought process and driving force behind this subtle, but dedicated movement to live “off-grid”. Ethnography will be one source of data collection as well as different informal interviews and market analyses. I will present the data collected in this study in such a way, that it may be used for future research to assist in discovering where the residential renewable energy market may be headed in the near future. Literature Review “Living Off the Grid a Simple Guide to Creating and Maintaining a Self-Reliant Supply of Energy, Water, Shelter, and More”: Defines living off grid as a degree of self-sufficiency with minimal reliance on public utilities. Focuses on energy, water, and waste as the three traditional basics and uses suggestions for conservation, shelter, energy, water, waste, and grid “piggybacking”. Some of...

...December 2, 2015 Task 1 The small local grocery story Q is more economically responsible than it is environmental or philanthropic. The economic model is a more traditional concept of business, very old school. A business is considered successful if they are providing good service and quality product showing a profit and providing jobs. Company Q is more concerned with what is best for the company, not necessarily what is best for their community, customers or stakeholders. The two stores they closed were in high crime rate areas and lost revenue and profits were low. The remaining stores are now offering a narrow choice of health conscious and organic foods; which are high margin items. Management declined to donate day old merchandise to a local food pantry because they feared loss of revenues due to fraud or theft by employees. Company Q is not creating a positive impact in their community, with their customer, employees or stakeholders through their lack of philanthropic actions. Ethically, Company Q has not done anything wrong by not giving to the food pantry or closing two of its stores, it just reflects poorly on them as a company. Company Q needs to improve their reputation by making changes to their social economic approach to social responsibility. This type of approach would focus not only on profits, but also focus on the benefits of the business to society. Company Q can make these improvements in three parts; customer fulfillment, public outreach...

Stress

...1. Do you think there is a trade-off between the positive (high performance) and negative (increased stress) effects of stretch goals? Setting goals is part of organizational life and a powerful way to keep employees aligned and clear about expectations. But how tough should the goals be? How high should you set the bar? Some leaders like to set goals at a low to moderate level, based on the concept that they want everyone to be successful. They believe that success increases employee motivation and satisfaction. A second approach is to set the goals fairly high, expecting that a good portion of the employees will achieve them, but everyone has to work pretty hard to be successful. The third approach is to make the goals so high that only the very best performers might attain them, but not too often. This is based on the premise that if you set the bar really high then everyone will work their hardest to go as far as they can. However, stretch goals can have a tradeoff between the positive and negative effects. On the positive side, it can increase high work performance since it enables employees to reach their fullest potential. Sometimes employees find stretch goals very motivating and make it a challenge to attain it, because managers generally attach incentives such as recognition and other forms of rewards for attaining these goals. Nevertheless, stretch goals also have negative effects and this is the stress that employees go through when unrealistic goals are set by...

La Hacienda Del Sol

...Recommendation: My recommended solution is for La Hacienda Del Sol (LHDS) to target the Mexicali residents from the age of 15 to 24 with annual household income of greater that $16 012 that are looking to have a change of climate and enjoy a vacation. This issue will address LHDS’s problem of the lower amounts of occupancy and revenue during the off-season, as currently LHDS relies on sales made during the peak season to carry its business over the rest of the year. LHDS should offer their rooms from the following range, to both the Mexican and American consumers in order to not discriminate prices as this may make other the Americans angry. In Exhibit 1 a detailed analysis of current and potential hotel guests can be seen. Based on this this analysis in order to increase occupancy rates in the offseason the hotel have promotions for Mexicali Residents or For Residents in Los Anglos or San Diego. An analysis of these two segments can be seen in Exhibit 2. This target market was chosen on a geographic, demographic, and benefits bases. Mexicali is only 124 miles from San Filipe and therefore is a drivable distances for these residents. The hotel has previously catered mainly to families and offers amenities and activities that can be enjoyed by a group of people. Also the hotel has rooms that can be occupied by 2 to 4 people. ...Differentiating Between Market Structures Jeffrey Henkel ECO/365 December 8, 2014 Hubertus Puaha Off-roading has become a favorite past time lately and one company that speaks volumes for the industry is Four Wheel Parts. They have cornered the market not only here in the United States but in the World. In order to minimize cost and maximize profit they have outsourced one of their sister companies to china to create competition with their rival companies by reducing labor cost. By doing so there were able to increase revenue by having reduced market prices. Many of the techniques they use are similar to companies in different markets and are the leading reason to why they have become the giants in the off road industry. Although there are several stores out there that cater to the off road needs of the greater United States Four Wheel Parts has singularly set themselves apart from all the rest and formed an oligopoly in the market structure of the off road industry. Even though there are several other companies out there that compete with Four Wheel Parts they have had the competitive edge that has set them apart ("4wd Parts", 2014). I choose Four Wheel Parts because they have taken over the market for off road supplies and have opened numerous retail stores all over the nation to cater to the American public. Not only do they offer aftermarket accessories but a number of mechanical upgrades as well. They can upgrade all the OEM stock parts to a number...

...to do a lot of work outside of classes. In fact, students spend more time in books at home than in classes. Every day, I face a choice in whether I should study or do my leisure activities. As I look at those two options, I make a decision using simple decision rules. If I choose to do my homework and keep myself up to date in my courses, then I will probably have better grades at the exams and quizzes, but I won’t really like my evening and go to bed bored. However, if I occupy my time to my leisure activity, I’ll have a better evening, whether I go out with my friends or I pass some time watching sports on TV, but I’ll start being late in my courses and it will be hard to make up for all the time I wasted. To conclude, this trade-off is decided more by what I want now, versus what I later. Hence, I will often choose to study and make my homework, but still give myself a little brake once in a while. ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------...

Self Tipping Multi Purpose Trailer

... |L00082588 | |Deborah Brougham |L00062741 | Word count: Submission Date: 08/04/2011 Table of Contents Executive summary After our initial meeting and several product ideas later, we agreed to follow up on a new product which was created by Chris Irwin of Premech Engineering Company. The product is a multipurpose self tipping trailer (MPT). Much more than a trailer, through, it features its own power take-off (PTO) and hydraulic system. A 6.5hp Briggs and Stratton petrol engine provides a PTO drive through a reduction gearbox on the engine. The integrated PTO drives a hydraulic pump for tipping its own trailer body or externals, such as a log splitter fitted on to the MPT. The MPT has its own brakes and a one tone payload. Secondary research was completed to ascertain what competitors existed for our product. It was found that there were two main competitors who produce and sell similar products in the market at present. These companies were Ifor Williams and Logic. Although their self tipping and self breaking trailers are similar to the Premech Engineering trailer, they all depend on the PTO shaft of the vehicle towing...
