Southwest Airlines

The company I choose to discuss is Southwest Airlines. Their mission statement reads “The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and company spirit”. Additionally “We are committed to provide our Employees a stable work environment with equal opportunity for learning and personal growth. Creativity and innovation are encouraged for improving the effectiveness of Southwest Airlines. Above all, Employees will be provided the same concern, respect, and caring attitude within the organization that they are expected to share externally with every Southwest Customer”. (www.southwest.com).
Southwest has stood out in its business practices for years now. They have successfully built a company that is true to its ethics and does what they say they will do. “If you get your passengers to their destinations when they want to get there, on time, at the lowest possible fares, and make darn sure they have a good time doing it, people will fly your airline”. Rollin King 1971. Southwest has stayed true to this. Offering zero fee’s for checking in baggage, offering military discounts and allowing pets to fly with owners. They take all the frills out of flying and allow customers to get from point A to B, for a very good price, and no hassle.
1. Planning: Like I mentioned above, Southwest set out a mission of allowing customers to fly quickly and affordably and have a positive experience. They planned their business structure and made sure employees were part of this process. They have effectively done this.
2. Organize: The core values of this company are quality, reliability, action, informal communication and feedback. Their organizational structure is a functional structure meaning all of the

The organization also has responsibility for settling transactions in the state’s wholesale spot market for electricity. But the term “ERCOT” also is used loosely in other ways. For instance, the term can describe the geographical footprint for retail electric deregulation in Texas. It is also sometimes used to describe the state’s wholesale energy market. This report touches upon policy questions relating to all these conceptualizations of ERCOT: as an organization, as an energy market, and as the area of Texas with competitive electric suppliers. To distinguish between these meanings, the term “ERCOT” will be used whenever practicable to refer to the organization, “the ERCOT region” will be used to refer to deregulated areas of the state...

...ANNUAL REPORT 2010 -11 TECHNO_LOGICAL TECHNO_LOGICAL In many ways, satisfying the Indian customer is probably much more challenging than satisfying a customer in another market. The country has an obsession for fuel efficiency, when it comes to choosing automobiles (and rightly so, since about three-fourths of India’s crude oil requirement is imported). Extracting more mechanical energy for the car from every drop of fuel is a designer’s challenge. But it is vital for the consumer, the economy and the planet. At the same time, a fast growing, young and upwardly mobile, speed conscious India demands pick-up and instant response at the accelerator pedal. There is normally a trade-off between performance and fuel efficiency. A third requirement is space efficiency, as customers want the car to be compact to cope with congestion on roads and parking lots. Yet another requirement is of minimizing emissions. The Company’s next generation, K-series engines employ a plethora of state-of-theart technologies to deliver on all these fronts. Technologies deployed could be as sophisticated as fine atomization to achieve fuel droplet diameter in microns for optimised combustion. Or, they could be as practical as using engineering polymers instead of metal in certain engine parts for weight reduction. Quite like packing more performance in a handheld smartphone as opposed to a traditional laptop. India’s road and dust conditions, the rains and driving safety considerations similarly...

Praise for the Extraordinary Leader

...PRAISE FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY LEADER “The Zenger Folkman leadership model is distinguished from others in that it is backed up by research and data. That data validates the effectiveness of identifying an individual’s strengths and developing them, rather than focusing on weaknesses. The Zenger Folkman philosophy has its eye on the right goal – real, measurable results.” —Bill Blase Senior Executive Vice President Human Resources AT&T Corp. “I fell in love with The Extraordinary Leader on page 1. From the moment I started reading I really got jazzed, and my enthusiasm only increased the more I read. You see, I’m just mad about books that attack cherished but unsupportable assumptions about anything, especially leadership. That’s exactly what Jack Zenger and Joe Folkman do, and they do it persuasively, precisely, and professionally. The Extraordinary Leader is no hackneyed rehashing of tired nostrums. Through their exceptional research, the authors demonstrate and prove that leadership does make a difference and that you can learn to lead. There are some profound insights in this book, and whether you’ve studied leadership for over 20 years, as I have, or you are brand new to the subject, Zenger and Folkman give you much more than your money’s worth. And while their research gives the book distinctive credibility, their examples and practical applications give it life. This is a book that scholars and practitioners will be referring to for years to come. If your goal is to...
