...Business Report “Examining the causes of Failure” On Vedanta Alumina Lanjigarh Project Submission date 13th December, 2010 Submitted bySId- 7636657 1 Executive Summary – MOE&F, INDIA rejected the application for Stage-2 (Final) Environmental Clearance and withdrew all the previous clearances for mining in Niyamgiri Hills given to Vedanta Alumina Ltd. (VAL) a subsidiary of Sterlite Industries INDIA Ltd. (SIIL) citing various facts and reasons. This report provides an in depth analysis of the factors that lead to the debacle of Vedanta Alumina Lanjigarh Project. In the collation and presentation of data Secondary sources have been largely used. Vedanta, being a big Corporate house with ample experience was well aware of the rules and legislations prescribed under the law but deliberately Indulged in malpractices and ignored the key issues when it came to the Implementation of the Robust Business Strategy as a part of unnecessary haste. This project is a complete failure as the main purpose of setting up of refinery at Lanjigarh was the mining from nearby Niyamgiri Hills which was rejected by MOE&F, INDIA. Main factors that contributed to the failure of Vedanta Project are primarily indulging in unethical and illegal practices to kick-off the project and ignoring the key stakeholders of the project i.e. Dongria Kondhs who are the inhabitants of the Niyamgiri Hills (Proposed mining Lease Area). The only ray of hope for Vedanta to make this project a success in...

...the course curriculum, the second year MBA students are required to undertake a study on macro analysis of a particular industry and thereby, prepare a project report on the chosen industry. The objective behind preparing this project report is to relate the management subjects taught in the classroom to their practical application and to get insight into practical situation. Petroleum Industry is considered to be the back bone of an economy because this is the main source of energy till date. Any economy around the world would fail to advance a single step in the absence of Petroleum Industry. The Petroleum Industry is divided into two segments namely Upstream Sector consisting of Exploration and Production of crude oil while the Downstream Sector consists of Refining, Processing, Storing, Marketing and Distribution of petroleum products. The most important part of the Petroleum Industry is the Petroleum Refining Industry which refines the crude oil to convert it to the usable fuel. It also derives many derivative products out of the crude petroleum like natural gas, naphtha, etc which can be used in various ways. Hence, for these reasons, we have chosen the Downstream Sector of the Indian Petroleum Industry for our Macro Analysis project. As this is a Macro Analysis project, we have concentrated on the Indian Petroleum Industry and that too focusing on the Downstream Sector for our study and not gone into the in depth analysis of the various players and their functioning...

...Abstract The aim of the Project is to find out the geo-engineering properties of fly ash, which can act as a stabilizer to many soils in geo-engineering field. The project describes the use of local fly ash in construction industry in a way to minimize the industrial waste. Their been serious shortage of natural material, which are used in Highway or Earth dam construction. Due to soil excavation, deforestation occurs which affects the bio-diversity. Industrial waste such as fly-ash, slag etc can be effectively used in soil stabilization. Several geo engineering Labrotory experiments were performed on fly ash to determine its properties, which may be used in road construction, earth dam construction, soil stabilization etc. If these materials can be used in highway or dam construction, it will be a great effort in minimizing the industrial pollution. Fly ash was collected from captive power plant from the dump pad of Rourkela steel plant. These are stored in air tight container after being oven-dried. Experiments such as determination of compaction properties, CBR analysis, Un-confined compressive strength test, permeability etc are done in order to determine the geo-engineering properties of fly ash, which can taken account in the construction field. A brief comparison is made between fly ash and other soil properties which are used as sub-grade, base in Highway construction. Introduction Electricity is the key for development of any country. Coal is a major source of...

...markets for longterm finance remain causes for concern. There is need to develop infrastructure to complement and sustain the economic growth momentum. Efforts—legislative, administrative and executive—are on to minimize the infrastructure deficit, ameliorate bottlenecks in completion of projects and nurture core industrial intermediates and infrastructure services. 10 CHAPTER 10.2 The stimulus measures announced by the national authorities worldwide to combat the economic slowdown contained infrastructure buildup plans. In line with the rest of the world, the Union Budget for 2009-10 substantially stepped up allocation for many infrastructure sectors over the Budget estimates for the previous year, especially for the National Highways Development Programme (NHDP), Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programmes (APDRP). 2009 has been about 1,490 km (Table 10.1). ...1. INTRODUCTION Financial analysis is defined as the process of discovering economic facts about an enterprise of a project on the basis of an interpretation of financial data. It also seeks to look at the capital cost, operations cost and operating revenue. It is vital for assessing the performance of the company and hence provides valuable information to the investors and to the company for future references. Financial Analysis is the process of evaluating businesses and other finance-related entities to determine their suitability for investment. Typically, financial analysis is used to analyze whether an entity is stable, solvent, liquid, or profitable enough to be invested in. One of the most common ways of analyzing financial data is to calculate ratios from the data to compare against those of other comparable companies. In Infinancials, financial ratios are categorized according to the financial aspect of the business which the ratio measures: Profitability, Asset Utilization, Capital Structure on a specific tab, Financial Ratios. ...Ongoing Concern: Risk Management at Pakistan International Airlines1 Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar, Chairman Pakistan International Airline Corporation (PIAC) was reading the final version of the PIAC audited annual report. He immediately called the Managing Director, PIAC to arrange a meeting to discuss the auditor’s report. The particular part of auditors’ opinion that caught his attention was the following: “We draw attention to note 1.2 to the unconsolidated financial statements, which states that the Corporation incurred a loss of Rs. 26,767.207 million during the year ended December 31, 2011, resulting in accumulated loss of Rs. 119,016.727 million as of December 31, 2011, and as of that date, the Corporation’s current liabilities exceeded its current assets by Rs. 88,221.403 million. These conditions indicate the existence of a material uncertainty which may cast doubt about the Corporation’s ability to continue as a going concern. Our opinion is not qualified in respect of this matter.” The agenda of the meeting was quite clear i.e., how to keep PIA solvent. PIAC Brief History2: In 1946 Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah realized the need for an airline network for the forming country and ask for the help of an industrialist Mirza Ahmad Ispahani to develop a flag carrier for the nation. Meanwhile, an airline called “Orient Airways”', registered in Calcutta, was formed on 23 October 1946. In May 1947 the airline was granted a license to fly. This was the first post-war airline flight...

...INSURANCE ADVISORS EFFECTIVENESS FOR PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INSURER: A DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY Krishan Kumar Pandey*Manisha Pandey** Manish Kerwar***Ashutosh Khare**** Dharmendra Singh***** Abstract : Few years back insurance was an arcane word for all of us. Insurance is no longer an unexciting business and the insurance advisor an apologetic salesman. New entries have actually changed the rules of the game in the insurance industry. One such change that has made a huge positive impact in the minds of Indian consumers is the product innovation by the insurance companies. New products are being launched; new distribution channels opened and thousands of sales advisers and managers are being recruited every month. This rapid change is demanding new regulations, new methods of management, new methods of operation and ofcourse considerable development in knowledge, attitude and skills of the workforce. Such times demand business/ output focused people who think widely, are confident about taking risks and decisions and prioritise their own and others’ actions to achieve the business need. Without these attributes the growth pattern that has begun will not be sustained. So are these attributes being developed in people? People know what they should do but they do not necessarily know how to do it. This study is well ahead to evaluate the effectiveness of Insurance Advisors. *, * * Faculty in Prestige Institute of Management, Gwalior * * * , * * * * , * * * * * Alumni, Prestige Institute...
