...NEVER LOSE HOPE No one is perfect. That’s what I believe. Everyone has a weak point. That weakness might be in studies or any particular matter. If you are weak in something so, this isn’t the end of the world. If I talk about myself I was weak in English and I think I am still weak. But that wasn’t my fault. I belonged to an education system which is usually based on rot-learning. We just had to follow what our teacher taught us and there was no brain storming. Till matriculation, I had no idea how much I was weak in English but I started to realize it during my initial days of intermediate. Usually in intermediate notes are provided to the students and they can easily rot learn from that. But my English teacher was against of providing such kinds of notes to the students. She insisted to prepare study material by our own self which became very difficult for me because I had never written anything in my own words. When I was unable to write myself, I got tense. I was helpless but it is true that good teachers are angels. When I wrote my first answer, I knew that it was pathetic. My teacher after reviewing my first written draft sought out that I was really very weak in English writing. There were lot of mistakes in it. When I got my teacher’s reviewed paper, it was full of red circles. I was really discouraged. But my teacher made me realize that it was not my fault. It was the education system from where I belonged. She advised me and consoled me that I could do much better...

...Shah Ahmed Atta ERPID: 09306 Once I Was Embarrassed, Now I am Proud Character: Black Female in Pakistan Once I was embarrassed. I was embarrassed of the individual I was and the values that I symbolized merely because I stood apart. I had no awareness of self-respect. At the young age of eleven, I was in the phase of self-discovery. My skin complexion was too dark. My wavy brown hair didn’t have the flow of the other children. I didn’t fit in anywhere. It was depressing to feel like an outcast. Despite how innocent they may seem, eleven year olds can be cruel to one another. The children spurned me, unconscious of what they were doing. My ears rang with racially disrespectful phrases such as “You look like a Kawwa [Crow],” or “You’ve got the colors of a bat.” Their mirth provoked me long past school hours. I cried endlessly and declined to go to school each subsequent day. All of peers being lighter than me, I sought desperately for individuals that were like to me in appearance, I know, I was wrong but I realize that now. I relentlessly had to battle to be accepted in with different groups of people. I so desperately craved acknowledgment. But, no matter how hard I tried, my efforts were in vain. The other kids saw that I was unusual and shunned me for that exact reason. As I grew older the level of insult intensified. Vicious and harsher things were being said to me as the children became more conscious of my diversity. The situation, as much as I had desired that...

...HOW TO READ ESSAYS YOU MUST ANALYZE 1. Take a pencil in your hand. 2. Read the essay over once, quickly, looking for the main idea, for what the essay is about in general, and for what the author seems to be saying. Don't get bogged down in details. (If you come to an unfamiliar word, circle it but go on reading). 3. Check the meaning of unfamiliar words. If they seem to be key words, i.e., if the author uses them more than once, scribble a brief definition at the bottom of the page or at the end of the essay. 4. Now re-read more slowly and carefully, this time making a conscious attempt to begin to isolate the single most important generalization the author makes: his thesis. Follow his line of thought; try to get some sense of structure. The thesis determines the structure, so the structure, once you begin to sense it, can lead you to the thesis. What is the main point the author is making: Where is it? Remember, examples or "for instances" are not main points. The thesis is the generalization the author is attempting to prove valid. Your job, then is to ask yourself, "What is the author trying to prove"? Another way of identifying the thesis is to ask yourself, "What is the unifying principle of this essay"? or "What idea does everything in this essay talk about"? or "Under what single main statement could all the subdivisions fit"? If the author has stated his thesis fully and clearly and all in one place, your job is easier. The thesis is apt to be stated...

...Guide to Writing a Basic Essay An essay can have many purposes, but the basic structure is the same no matter what. You may be writing an essay to argue for a particular point of view or to explain the steps necessary to complete a task. Either way, your essay will have the same basic format. If you follow a few simple steps, you will find that the essay almost writes itself. You will be responsible only for supplying ideas, which are the important part of the essay anyway. Don't let the thought of putting pen to paper daunt you. Get started! These simple steps will guide you through the essay writing process: • • • • Decide on your topic. Prepare an outline or diagram of your ideas. Write your thesis statement. Write the body. • • • • • • Write the main points. Write the subpoints. Elaborate on the subpoints. Write the introduction. Write the conclusion. Add the finishing touches. Choose a Topic for Your Essay Topic Has Been Assigned You may have no choice as to your topic. If this is the case, you still may not be ready to jump to the next step. Think about the type of paper you are expected to produce. Should it be a general overview, or a specific analysis of the topic? If it should be an overview, then you are probably ready to move to the next step. If it should be a specific analysis, make sure your topic is fairly specific. If it is too general, you must choose a narrower subtopic to discuss. For example, the topic "KENYA" is a general one. If your objective is...

...According to the short essay “On Going Home” by Joan Didion, you can never go back home once you’ve acquired another. Didion explains generation gaps during the rocky path towards self-realization and acceptance while attending what we call life. She explains that there is a certain time in which people find themselves in what is described as a mid-life crisis- the realization that what was a familiar and comfortable past is now not the present. As teenagers we wait anxiously for the day we once and for all move out and be free to explore the world from a new mindset. However, in Didion's essay we see that there is a possibility of a new reality of what lies ahead once we step out of the house we grew up in. Her life now consists of dealing with her marriage, raising her daughter, and living in Los Angeles; Didion's persona throughout the essay is that she is often triggered by past experiences that lead her into a lingering sensation of nostalgia and uneasiness but yet hope and acceptance as well. Didion is obviously conflicted with the strong values she holds towards her childhood family life and new family life in LA, wishing to unite them in her marriage. Her husband is troubled to be with her family in this "home" on account of her turning into a different person around her family. It becomes apparent her husband was raised conflictingly and doesn't appreciate it when his wife falls victim to the ways of her family, ". . .which are difficult, oblique, deliberately inarticulate"...

...Maya Angelou once said “You can never go home again, but the truth is you can never leave home, so it’s all right” In the essays “On Going Home” by Joan Didions and “Once more to the Lake” written by E.B Whites are two authors dealing with their personal issues as they compares and contrasts they current life and past, which are vastly different. The way they uses description in this essays and the flow of events is very similar to the way that memories rush in when one returns to a familiar place from one’s past To descript is to portray or re-create a scene, a person, a place or a feeling. Description is an important skill in communication between people, and it appears in most of the writing situation. An effective description requires a dominant impression; a central theme or idea about the subject to which readers can relate all the details. Joan Didions and E.B Whites uses description effectively in “On Going Home” and “Once More to the Lake”. “On Going Home” Didion describes her experiences and thoughts on what defines her meaning of home. Joan Didion begins her story by illustrating what "home" is to her. She describes how her home now is not the place where her husband and daughter live, but in the Central Valley of California with her family. With this introduction, one can sense that she is troubled by the differences between the two. Didion stated “My husband likes my family but is uneasy in their house, because once there I fall into their ways, which are difficult...

... In her essay, Se Habla Espanol writer Tanya Barrientos presents a memoir of a Guatemalan born Latina brought to the United States as a child but failed to identify with her native culture. Now, as an adult, she struggles to regain her Latino identity and acceptance. Barrientos was brought to the United States at a very young age by her parents who immersed her into the American culture by speaking only Spanish. This was to serve the purpose of blending her more readily into her new society and thus, ensuring her success. She describes how Americans during that time were not culturally tolerant and expected foreigners who entered the country to “leave their cultural baggage at the border”. As a result of her parents decision Barrientos assimilates to her new culture and rejects her old one. She took pride in not being able to speak Spanish; and furthermore, she took pride in her American peers saying that she did not seem Mexican. Barrientos states that those comments “made me feel superior. It made me feel American. It made me feel white.” Once her father realized how she felt about her native culture he set out to change her feelings. He sent her to spend time in Mexico City and his plan worked. She returned to the United States with a new appreciation for her Latino roots. She continues on to state that as she became more accepting of her native culture so had American society. The nation that had once ostracized ethnic cultures now accepted them as...

A sociology essay that is well structured is pleasing to read and shows the reader that you have the ability to present the problem, argument, solution and conclusion in a disciplined way. Structuring your essay is also something that you need to do before you start writing. This will ensure that you have a framework in mind at all times and you do not deviate from the topic. Structuring will also help ensure that each section in the essay is given equal and appropriate importance and it will help maintain the flow of essay so that the essay does not appear haphazard. 4Be sure to include an Introduction, Main Body and Conclusion. ...In high school, I hated writing essays for my English classes. At first, I did not have a reliable writing process. I would free write a rough draft and turn it in as a final draft. I would also write last minute instead of using the time to create a well-thought essay. I focused more on passing a class rather than boosting my writing skills. Now that I am in college, I take writing seriously. Throughout the years, my writing process has drastically changed. As a writer, I will continue to advance my writing skills. Prewriting is significant when preparing for an essay, although this step is most of the time ignored. The process of writing is just as important as the writing itself. Prewriting is great for writers to have an organized essay. Sectioning the writing process can make writing less stressful and gives the writer more time to go back and improve their paper. My writing process consists of brainstorming, outlining, rough drafting, and peer revisions....
