...Within just a few days, these fruits purchased begin to rot and a gray mold appears around the surface. Gray mold is one of the most common fruit rotting diseases. This rotting process is referred to as botrytis, it is a gray mold that often grows on berries (Boon 2004). Blackberries, blueberries, grapes and strawberries are often affected by this type of mold. Moreover, according to a recent article published by United States Department of Agriculture, “there is large amount of food in grocery stores that spoil because of moisture loss, spoilage, and other causes.”...

...The Black Cat by: Edgar Allan Poe (Published 1845) FOR the most wild, yet most homely narrative which I am about to pen, I neither expect nor solicit belief. Mad indeed would I be to expect it, in a case where my very senses reject their own evidence. Yet, mad am I not -- and very surely do I not dream. But to-morrow I die, and to-day I would unburthen my soul. My immediate purpose is to place before the world, plainly, succinctly, and without comment, a series of mere household events. In their consequences, these events have terrified -- have tortured -- have destroyed me. Yet I will not attempt to expound them. To me, they have presented little but Horror -- to many they will seem less terrible than barroques. Hereafter, perhaps, some intellect may be found which will reduce my phantasm to the common-place -- some intellect more calm, more logical, and far less excitable than my own, which will perceive, in the circumstances I detail with awe, nothing more than an ordinary succession of very natural causes and effects. From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions. I was especially fond of animals, and was indulged by my parents with a great variety of pets. With these I spent most of my time, and never was so happy as when feeding and caressing them. This peculiarity of character grew with my growth, and, in my manhood, I derived from it one of...

...Standing before you on this day reminds me of my 8th grade graduation. I sat on the stage listening to three of my peers give beautiful speeches that had nothing to do with any of the feelings I felt. The speakers harped on the nostalgia of leaving a school they had been at for nine years; I had only been there for three. They spoke on how they would miss seeing the same faces everyday and that they feared the days ahead – however, I was excited. When I thought about the future I saw all the things waiting for me to come and try. I saw the new friends I would make, the papers I would write, the softball games I would win, the clubs and activities I would join, the boy who would be my first kiss, and the wonderful people I would meet who would inspire me more than I realized at the time. Graduation is a time to look at what the future has in store for each of us. It is a time to take a look at what path our lives are going to take once the caps and gowns are taken off and we are thrust into an unknown future. Changes next year will vary greatly for each of us, they will come in the form of new environments, lifestyles, and schedules. And these changes will bring an abundance of questions. Will I be happy? Will I fall in love? Will I have a family? Will I be happy five or ten years down the road? Will I make a difference? Will I make a difference in my community? In my country? In the world? El Cerrito High School graduates of 2010, we...

...will be taking a journey to the past. However, we were all in for a surprise. Upon reaching the place, we could not rap our heads around the speed at which things were happening. The notion of it being a small market went out of our heads, after walking miles after miles but not being able to see the end of the line shops that surrounded us. The hustle and bustle of the market took us by a surprise. But upon getting to terms with everything we were able to take the interviews, along with some selfies and were able to complete the assignment that we had been sent to do. We first visited a toy shop, which was on the outskirts of the Azam market. The toy shop belonged to Mr. Aurangzeb, who claimed to be in the market for over 5 years. He told us that he had started with a small shop and through his hard work and immaculate selling skills was able to expand his business to a larger scale. Upon being asked about the supplier, he told us that most of his products were made locally in warehouses which were also located within the same market. He said that he did not own the warehouse, but had very good terms with the manufacturer of the toys. We also asked him, how often he visited that warehouse. He said that he usually visited the place once a week, but in peak sales season he had to go their twice a week. He said that he paid his supplier in cash at the time of the transaction, or at most two days after the transaction. After that interview, we moved further into the heart of...

...THE LION AND THE MOUSE Once when a Lion was asleep, a little Mouse began running up and down upon him. This soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him and opened his big jaws to swallow him. "Pardon, O King!" cried the little Mouse, "Forgive me this time. I shall never repeat it and I shall never forget your kindness. And who knows, but I may be able to do you a good turn one of these days?" The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him that he lifted up his paw and let him go. Sometime later a few hunters captured the King and tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him on. Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, ran up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts. "Was I not right?" said the little Mouse, very happy to help the Lion. Questions: 1. What is the title of the story? 2. Who are the characters in the story? 3. What did the mice do that made the lion happy? 4. Where do you think the story happened? 5. If you were the mice, would you help the lion too? The Goose with the Golden Eggs Once when a Lion was asleep, a little Once upon a time, a man and his wife had the good fortune to have a goose which laid a golden egg every day. ...Engelsk aflevering Once upon a shop Now a day, it can be difficult for new entrepreneurs to start a new sustainable firm, in a dynamic business world. This is because of the huge competition that comes from the big firms. The big capitalistic firms can mass-produce their products and sell them for a low price, which many people finds logical appealing. The more humanistic firms then find it very difficult to compete with the capitalistic, because they cannot sell their products as cheap if they want profit. The only way that the humanistic firms can compete with the capitalistic, is through promoting themselves and their product as an ethically right choice in context to animal treatment, human rights and organically farming. These humanistic values are some, the most of us finds appealing, but not the most of us are willing to pay the extra amount of money to support the businesses who stands for these values. USA have for the last 50 years influenced the whole world with their “success persuading mentality”, which also fosters the idea of the “Economic man”. The “Economic man” is a social scientific term, for how the stereotypical liberalistic man, prefers to administrate his private and business economy, which are by selling for the highest price and buying for the lowest. This factor has an impact, on how we decide to do grocery shopping Jeanette Winterson argues the issue of small contra big businesses, in her essay “once upon a shop”, 2010. She owns a small vegetable...

...autumn nutters haunted, flourishes Green in a cuplike hollow of the down. Here on this beach a hundred years ago, Three children of three houses, Annie Lee, The prettiest little damsel in the port, And Philip Ray the miller's only son, And Enoch Arden, a rough sailor's lad Made orphan by a winter shipwreck, play'd Among the waste and lumber of the shore, Hard coils of cordage, swarthy fishing-nets, Anchors of rusty fluke, and boats updrawn, And built their castles of dissolving sand To watch them overflow'd, or following up And flying the white breaker, daily left The little footprint daily wash'd away. A narrow cave ran in beneath the cliff: In this the children play'd at keeping house. Enoch was host one day, Philip the next, While Annie still was mistress; but at times Enoch would hold possession for a week: `This is my house and this my little wife.' `Mine too' said Philip `turn and turn about:' When, if they quarrell'd, Enoch stronger-made Was master: then would Philip, his blue eyes All flooded with the helpless wrath of tears, Shriek out `I hate you, Enoch,' and at this The little wife would weep for company, And pray them not to quarrel for her sake, And say she would be little wife to both. But when the dawn of rosy childhood past, And the new warmth of life's ascending sun Was felt by either, either fixt his heart On that one girl; and Enoch spoke his love, But Philip loved in silence; and the girl Seem'd...

...Men must learn till they reach their fifteenth year. Then they go to work.” (20) This is an example of drudgery. From an early age, they are forced to mindlessly obey the order of the council. Once they reach the age of fifteen, they are forced to work. They rise when the big bell rings in the tower and the sleep once that big bell rings again. Then the three teachers would come in and say “We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by and for our brothers who are the state. Amen.” (21) They would go through this process every day, over and over, from the day they start working until the day they die. They are absentmindedly obeying their...

...Black widow spiders are notorious for being one of the deadliest spiders in the world. Their pitch black bodies with a scarlet mark of death imprinted upon themselves are a sign of warning to all. Though their mien appears intimidating up close, humans are inept to see their alarming appearance with ease as females measure in at barely an inch and a half in length, oftentimes smaller. Standing at five foot one inch and hardly a hundred pounds, I feel apt to relate to such a species. When one thinks of a leader, a tall, built, polished person is composed in the mind, ergo my petite frame, baby face, and attire consisting of far too many t-shirts easily contradicts the conventional ways of thinking. Despite my appearance, and, very much so...

...losing many of his customers because he cannot compete on the basis of price. The management team met and discussed its strategic response. The team determined that the hardware store would focus on particular items and make personalized service the cornerstone of its effort. Fred’s responsibility was to train all nonmanagement employees in good customer relations skills; for that he was given a budget of $70,000. Over that past six months, Fred received a number of training brochures from outside organizations. One of the brochures boasted, “Three-day workshop, $35,000. We will come in and train all your employees (maximum of 50 per session) so that any customer who comes to your store once will come again. Another said, ” one day seminar on customer service skills. The best in the country. Only $8,000 (maximum participants 70).” A third said, “customer satisfaction guaranteed on our customer satisfaction training for sales clerks. Three-day workshop, $25,000. Maximum participants 25 to allow for individual help.” Fred liked the third one because it provided personalized training. He called the company to talk about its offering. The consultant said that by keeping the number small, he would be able to provide actual work simulations for each of the trainees. He also indicated that he would tailor the simulations to reflect the hardware store. Fred noted that they would need two sessions and asked the consultant if he could take a few more per session to accommodate the 55 employees...
