...Once Were Warriors Report by Sean Collier Once Were Warriors had a different reception internationally towards the didactic message of the violence in the film. Once Were Warriors directed by Lee Tamahori grossed over $6 million in New Zealand passing Jurassic Park on the New Zealand Box Office. New Zealanders praised the film with most reviews receiving a high rating. When opened internationally it grossed over $2 million with reviews also achieving a high rating. Although most international reviews fail to see the message from the violence compared to local reviews, they seem to view the violence as nauseating and unnecessary while New Zealand sees it as strong message to the public. Strong examples of this are Mark Tierney, Lizzie Francke and David Stratton from New Zealand, and Kenneth Turan from America who had a strong opinion on the movie’s brutal violence leading him to give it a bad review therefore missing the didactic message of the film. Once Were Warriors is a film based from the novel of the same name, about a Maori family living in Auckland after moving away from tribal elders over a disagreement over their marriage. The main settings are the Heke’s house and the local bar both housing drunken violence. Beth Heke (Rena Owen) is the victim of domestic abuse from her husband Jake Heke (Temurea Morrison) leading her to question the relationship and stand up to Jake while also trying to sort family relations. There are many sub-plots in the film which affect the...

...for “totally” and “cray” (or “cray-cray”) for “crazy.” What accounts for the meteoric rise of YOLO, and how has it gone virtually unnoticed by nonmillennials? Its appeal to the youthful is self-evident. YOLO as a shorthand mantra defines youth, on a certain level. What is teenagehood if not the adventurous, often foolhardy, desire to test the limits of acceptable behavior—because hey, why not? YOLO! The carpe diem sentiment of “you only live once” has a long history predating its punchy acronymic clipping. Garson O’Toole, on his Quote Investigator blog, traces variations on the theme back to the 18th century, as in this line from Samuel Richardson’s novel “Clarissa”: “We live but once in this world; and when gone, are gone from it for ever.” The exact wording of “you only live once” begins cropping up in the late 19th century, and by 1937 it was popular enough to be used as the title of a Fritz Lang film noir. One wry elaboration, credited to the comedian Joe E. Lewis in 1952, is “You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.” Today’s young purveyors of YOLO do indeed appear to be trying to work it right, though what that means is up for debate. Eble’s students illustrate its typical use, as a carefree tag to explain an impulsive choice: “You want to park illegally in this spot? YOLO!” “Should I buy these shoes or pay rent? YOLO!” The word has also found favor as a verb, as in this Yelp review of a Jersey City pizzeria: “All the times I come home after a...

I can barely reach up and write in my diary, which is why I will just type it in my phone starting this day. Kekekeke - Okay, let us go back to the introductions... Dear S4 today is the 7th day after passing as a trainee at SM Entertainment. i must admit, it was a hell out of a competition out there. Everyone was just so competitive and amazing, to the point that I almost lose hope on passing the auditions. Then, after that fateful day of my casting, a quick reply was sent to my email. I passed the audition! YES! I jumped for joy that day and hugged my mom (nearly crushing her) Two days after, my trainee days started and I was asked to go to the company for a brief orientation. I was soooo excited to go inside SM, not to train *I am being honest here S4* but of course, to see the artists kekekeke. The first group I saw was TVXQ. Yunho and Changmin were both dazzling (and tall I must say) they were kind enough to pay attention to us and gave us some words of encouragement afterwards. We were toured inside the building and showed us our respective training rooms. Today will be our senior assignments. It's a routine wherein we will be assigned into different groups (seniors) to train with them. Super Junior? Girls Generation? Who? I don't know too kekekeke. However, I wish it will the pretty boys, EXO Oh well, please anticipate my next post. I better get ready now or I might...

...The audience intended for the song is the United States President George W. Bush. Pink stated it was written as an open letter to the president, one of the most important songs she had ever written and was not to be seen as a song just for attention. This song voices many problems occurring in the United States; homelessness,” What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?” The war, “How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? /Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away”. His anti-abortion and anti-gay rights policies,” What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?” Which also has Pink asking what the first lady has to say do to Bush’s Vice President whose daughter is gay. The No Child Left Behind Act which failed do to no continued funding from Bush,” How can you say No child is left behind? We're not dumb and we're not blind.” and other social issues. Pink also brings up a part of the presidents corrupted past that now him and his supporters ignore, “You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.” Throughout the song Pink states The President has no idea about hard work, “Let me tell you 'bout hard work, Minimum wage with a baby on the way/ Let me tell you 'bout hard work, Building a bed out of a cardboard box/ You don't know nothing 'bout hard work.” The reuse of words in the song also supports the emphasis on the ideas and the tone she uses to sing...

...Hafsa Mazhar ERP: 11060 Class: 4188 Email: hafsa_mazhar@outlook.com Final Draft Once I was a lively spirit; now I am a depressed soul. Once I was like a free bird, soaring through the skies, with my wings spread wide. There were a thousand places I could go and a million things I could see. The world was my oyster. The freedom exhilarated me. Now I am like a caged bird, trapped behind bars, with clipped wings. My entire world is enclosed behind the four walls of my owner’s apartment, and the skyscrapers outside my window are the only things I see. The imprisonment distresses me. Once I was a daughter of the most amazing parents. Love, compassion, and respect were all I received from them. They did everything they could to make my life heaven on earth. Now I am the maid of the most heartless family. Car crash, deaths, and desolation, my parents left me alone in this cruel world to fight my own battles. I mourn for those blessed days and shed tears at my loss. Just a few hours turned my life into hell. Once I was happy, smiling, laughing, living my life to the fullest. I had everything I wanted or needed; a huge house, a gorgeous car, and cool friends. Every moment was worth cherishing. Now I am sad, depressed, weeping on the outside, and dying bit by bit inside. All the happiness I once had has been ripped away from me and every moment is spent wishing for...

...Arctic Mining Consultants (Case Study) Tom Parker enjoyed working outdoors. At various times in the past, he worked as a ranch hand, high steel rigger, headstone installer, prospector, and geological field technician. Now 43, Parker is a geological field technician and field coordinator with Arctic Mining Consultants. He has specialized knowledge and experience in all nontechnical aspects of mineral exploration, including claim staking, line cutting and grid installation, soil sampling, prospecting, and trenching. He is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising field assistants for all of Arctic Mining Consultants' programs. Field assistants are paid a fairly low daily wage (no matter how long they work, which may be up to 12 hours or more) but are provided meals and accommodation. Many of the programs are operated by a project manager who reports to Parker. Parker sometimes acts as a project manager , as he did on a job that involved staking 15 claims near Eagle Lake, Alaska. He selected John Talbot, Greg Boyce, and Brian Millar, all of whom had previously worked with Parker, as the field assistants. To stake a claim, the project team marks a line with flagging tape and blazes along the perimeter of the claim, cutting a claim post every 500 yards (called a length). The 15 claims would require almost 60 miles of line in total. Parker had budgeted seven days (plus mobilization and demobilization) to complete the job. This meant that each of the four stakers (Parker, Talbot...

...Tell me why, Burnham ivyjaneredsapon The ambiance implicitly covers the longing for a precious treasure shivering in the heart of a mystique person. When I was young, I always let my soul travel in the exotic beauty of my beloved country. It made me perspired when I first laid my eyes to the popular city of Baguio, the Summer Capital of the Philippines, in just a picture of the notebook that I used to see. I wished of stepping my innocent feet unto the rare land that was sought after. I wished of gasping the air and of tasting… the life it may gave as I savored the moment. These wishes, I guess, was a strong proof why I was very much overwhelmed upon seeking the opportunity of going to it. Indeed, the happiness and excitement that kept me alive could not find a place, for sure. This awaited advent lasted for more than seven hours, as the trip passed from places that I considered as a gateway to heaven. First was the city of Santiago. It did not change yet. The beauty of the remarkable spots such as the well – established buildings still thrill me. On contrast, as the wheel ran ahead, the bare faces of the street children never change the thought of mine that this city is not yet a perfect place to praise. Next was one of the precious marks of my ingenious province – Cordon. Upon laying my eyes to the soothing and relaxing farm of it, I swear of coming back in Isabela for I was a lucky person who lived with the heart of it. The feeling arose when the van stopped at a gasoline...

...Khizar farooq 10916 Once Beauty Was A Superficial Notion For Me Now I Know What Actual Beauty Is Once beauty was a superficial notion for me. It was something on which I was really proud of. Something which made me different from others. I was ravishing, unique in every way. I was like a bird always ready to spread my wings. It was my strength, a card which can help me in every situation. Indeed! I was like the sun “The Brightest”. Beauty meant everything to me, a world which I wanted to explore the most. To look young was my aspiration. To look bonny-slim- was my top priority. I used to spend nights and days caring for myself. Buying the most expensive make-up kits lowered my stress. Beauty was the thing I could die for, the thing for which I could cross all limits. I had my own world of fantasy to live where beauty ruled, where beauty was God. Perhaps, beauty was the reason of my existence, the reason why I was still breathing. The reason why I was still smiling. Beautiful people engrossed me the most. On the other hand, ugly people were the one I never loved, never spent time with, never considered humans and always considered them inferior. If I were God I would have never made such being. That is what my perception of beauty was. It was all consuming force, I thought beauty was within me. I controlled it but in reality it was the other way around. I was blind and paid to nothing. I sacrificed my son for...

...Dan Rensberger Sports In Society Garth Pleasant 10-17-2013 Yugoslavia In the country of Yugoslavia, there were three different religions that had been there since the country was formed. There are the Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and some Muslim. The Slavs were a group of people that were fleeing Russia to escape persecution and they were split up by a group of mountains. The people on the west side of the mountain range were Roman Catholic, called the Croats of Croatia, and the people to the east were called Orthodox, called the Serbs of Serbia. They were joined together by the country of Yugoslavia, and this country brought together one of the best international basketball teams of the time. This team starred Drazen Petrovich and Vlade Divac among others. The team was a very tight knit group, and they were like brothers. They were all best friends and had great team chemistry, and that was one of the reasons that they were so successful. They seemed to have brought the country together from a time of violence toward each other, but they would also end up tearing the country apart. The Yugoslavian national team was very good, and they were just starting to hit stride. Drazen Petrovich was one of the best players in the world, and surrounded by Divac and Tony Kukoc, they were going to be a tough team to beat. The team was playing a lot together through the late 80’s and early 90’s, including playing the Boston Celtics, the NBA champions in 1988 featuring...

Due to this, Henry was sent on a quest to jaunt through the kingdom to rescue the beautiful princess, Fortune. Fortune was captured long ago by the incarnation of evil itself, El Diablo. To be able to pull this off, Henry made sure to prepare his trustworthy steed, Dog, with enough supplies to last him centuries. Henry hastily packed bottles of water, health potions and meat for him and Dog to eat on their journey. After traveling thousands of miles, Henry at last spotted the big brick and mortar tower the princess was being held captive in. Believing to be smarter than he actually was, Henry decided to enter the tower stealthily, trying to attract the least attention possible. In reality, this was futile since Henry came up with the idea because there were no guards protecting the tower, and El Diablo had spotted Henry and Dog miles away....

CHAPTER ONE Once There was a Time An Introduction to the History and Ideology of Folk'and Fairy Tales To begin with a true story told in fairy-tale manner: Once upon a time the famous physicist Albert Einstein was confronted by an overly concemed woman who sought advice on how to raise her small son to become a successful scientist. In particular she wanted to know what kinds ofbooks she sll ould read to her son. "Fairy tales," Einstein responded without. hesitation.
