...Theme of Love in Othello - Act 1 The theme of love is an important element to any Shakespearean tragedy, and Othello is no different. From the start it is made apparent that Roderigo is in love with ‘Desdemona’, but she is married to the “moor”, Othello. When Brabantio is told that his daughter is with the moor, he says “It is too true an evil. Gone she is. And what’s to come of my despised timeIs naught but bitterness” he is saying that now she has gone, his life will be nothing but bitterness. This shows the love he has for his daughter. The mere thought of loosing his daughter makes him hysterical. He immediately questions the moors motives. “Is there not charms by which the property of youth and maidhood may be abused?” He is saying that Othello used ‘magical spells’ to lead his daughter astray and stole her innocence. The fact that he hastily jumped to this conclusion proves that his love for his daughter has blinded him. He is refusing to acknowledge the fact that she may of actually been willing to marry this man and have any sort of consenting sexual relations with him. Although we hear a lot about Othello and Desdemona’s relationship, it is not until scene 2 that we hear Othello’s account of their relationship, which is eminently different. He tells the story of how him and Desdemona met; Brabantio “oft invited” him into their home and he would tel them the stories of his past. He states that she instigated the conversation as she was inquisitive about...

...Compare the way love is represented in ‘Ghazal’ with one other poem ‘Love’ can be defined as a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection to something or someone. Poe believed that all good literature must create a unity of effect on the reader and this effect must reveal truth or evoke emotions. His work is admired as an excellent example of how a short story can produce an effect on the reader; much like how ‘Ghazal’ and ‘Hour’ produce an effect of love and pathos towards the characters. The poems ‘Ghazal’ by Mimi Khalvati and ‘Hour’ by Carol Ann Duffy are similar in many ways. Firstly, the structures of both include couplets; however ‘Hour’ is in a sonnet form with 3 quatrains and a couplet to finish, and ‘Ghazal’ has 10 couplets. This shows the reader immediately that both poems are of the theme of love. Also, this type of structure links to Shakespeare’s sonnets, as they have a similar, if not the same, structure. Additionally, the form of poetry that ‘Ghazal’ is one that is traditionally sung and deals with unattainable love. This form dates back to 7th century Arabia. Secondly, in the poem ‘Hour’ the poet presents love with the description of ‘time’s beggar’. The love talked about in this poem appears to be personified as a beggar. This may suggest that love wants more time to be with their other half. In addition, the poet redefines wealth as love and time rather than as money and gold. Carol Ann Duffy uses two fairytales, ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Rumplestiltskin’...

...One Way Love: Looking For Romance Or Looking For Visas? Project Summary Problem Statement It is what romance novels are made of: being whisked away by an exotic stranger from another country, keeping you safe and secure. The love of your life intrigues all of your senses, being enchanted in a mystifying land. Yet, not many people are seeking love but are seeking more tangible gains: money, financial security, and visas. It is harsh, but it is reality. Foreigners stalk and prey social networks, chat rooms, and romance sites for their loves, hoping it would lead them to money and permanent resident status in a more prosperous country. Methods and Analysis From September to November, I will collect articles and other various research materials and use the knowledge gained from these articles to interview persons and organizations in connection to scam marriages and visa-marriage arrangements. Intellectual Merit Through the in-depth study of different stories of scam marriages, we will interview persons of interests as well as review articles. The research takes an integrative approach to anthropological research. Research Questions & Objectives 1) to document the incidence of multiple multicultural marriages for residency purposes among research participants. This involves collecting life histories that focus on the ethnic background of informants and their experience with 2) collecting data on characteristics of the communities, forums, and social networks...

...Fuel from the Fields Charcoal B a c k g r o u n d More than 2 billion people use wood, charcoal, dung or agricultural residues as the primary fuel for their cooking and heating needs, leading to significant health, economic and environmental consequences. Burning wood or agricultural residues produces smoke with a variety of irritant pollutants, some of which are known carcinogens. More than 1.5 million deaths a year are caused by acute respiratory infections from breathing smoke from indoor cooking fires. Women and children are generally exposed to the greatest levels of pollutants and it is children who suffer the greatest health risk – respiratory infections are the leading cause of death of young children worldwide. Small-scale subsistence farmers who make less than US$2 per day may use wood charcoal for cooking fuel. In areas where wood is scarce and farmers are not able to collect it themselves, the cost of cooking fuel is a significant drain on their limited resources. An estimated 50 billion hours are spent collecting firewood each year and families can spend over 25% of their income on fuel, leaving them with less income to cover other basic needs such as medicine, food and clean water. For comparison, even the poorest 20% of the U.S. population spends only 1% of their income on energy for their household. In the year 2000, indoor air pollution from solid fuel use was responsible for more than 1.6 million annual deaths and 2.7% of the global burden of disease. -World...

...analyzing character. The passage starts out with an emphasis love. Romans 12:9-10 (ESV) says, “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Love must be a foundational aspect of the Christian faith. 1 Corinthians 13:2 (ESV) states clearly, “if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” The scripture tells us to love as if we are loving our own brother, and do so by showing honor to one another. This translates easily to business by how a company cares for their employees. If employees are not valued and treated with respect and honor, and instead treated as objects in existence to further profit, this is not glorifying to God and many times will be destructive to the company. Romans 12:12 (ESV) continues to describe character, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” A clear indication of steadfast character is given throughout tribulation. How a company reacts will indicate where their trust lies. How they interact in relationship during tribulation will be indicative of their character. Does blame get placed unnecessarily on others? Are people quick to cut down and speak negatively to others? Do managers take responsibility or look for excuses? This will determine whether or not a company survives difficult times. Romans 12:17-18 (ESV) says, “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in...

Then I will go and suggest some ideas to the youth leaders that are already trying to pursue the job. Now lets say this church is a Tanzanian church. I am more that 90% sure that there is no church out there that is doing youth ministry that has to do with relational ministry. I know this is the most healthy way to have a ministry, so I will go up to them and tell them “what if” we tried to make this ministry more about the youth. This way I can slowly start to make them understand that youth ministry is not about the programs or the big numbers. It is about getting to know the youth and being their shoulder to lean on. One thing I have learned that is key to a...

...When he presents his findings to the International Congress of Astronomy, dressed in his comical Turkish outfit, he is not believed. Man has not learned to look beneath the exterior, or rather, he has forgotten how. Because adults never look within, they will never know themselves or others. A fox is one cunning animal. And in the story, it is proven to be right. From the fox's lesson that one can see only what is essential by looking with the heart, the author leaves the desert as a changed person. He agrees with the little prince's thought: 'the stars are beautiful, because of a flower that cannot be seen';. The rose is very fragile and needs constant care. Love is not a matter of choice; it is a matter of consequence; indeed, it is a matter of survival. Men must learn to love one another or expire. Love is what gives life meaning. The little prince's love for his rose is so important to him that his love gives the author's life purpose and direction. The fox teaches the little prince how to love. It is the time that one 'wastes'; on someone or something that makes it important. It is the fox that tells us how love overcomes existentialism: 'One only knows the things that one tames… Men buy things already made in the stores. But as there are no stores where friends can be bought, men no longer have friends.'; The three volcanoes represent our problems. The active volcano is our current problems; the extinct, our past trials, and the dormant, the...

...some disagreements, they still care about and love one another and they make sure no one is left behind or forgotten. In “Journey” and “the Sandpiper”, the authors explore themes such as change, love and sacrifice and darkness and light. Sometimes relationships change and you’ve just got to go with the flow, and see where it takes you. The short story “Journey” is about a girl who suddenly realizes that she is alone in the world, scared out of her wits and having to take care of her ill mother at the same time. While she is trying to deal with the sudden turn of the mother daughter relationship she cherished, she tries to keep calm and be responsible, however she could not withstand the weight on her shoulders, and so “she shuddered in the cold air, shuddered at the shock of cold water, and, shuddering as she washed, the girl cried”. When someone shudders in cold air, a lonely, helpless and dark scene comes to mind, the author emphasized her point by using parallel and repetitive sentences, which makes the reader sympathize with the girl, as she is standing helplessly to the side, watching her world come crashing down, not knowing what will become of her in the future. On the other hand “The Sandpiper”, because the daughter is too young, she couldn’t care less about her mother’s well being and happiness. The mother’s desire to escape the lonely confinements of their family’s house by the beach is thwarted by the love for her daughter, showing that a mother is willing...

...Don’t Fall in Love With One Company Most people come into business school with an open mind. But as we progress through the recruiting cycle, it’s very easy to get attached to certain companies. Company presentations are designed to generate interest and put recruiting companies in the best possible light. When you start attending networking events, you’ll undoubtedly meet people you really like and can relate with. And you’ll hear about projects from those people that fascinate you. Eventually, you start picturing yourself working at said company and before you know it, you have a dream job you’re recruiting for. The problem with being focused on one company is that the recruiting process can be fickle and subjective. You could spend months researching, networking, and preparing to interview with your dream company. But all it takes is a single negative thought from an interviewer to crush those dreams. Even if you do everything right, there’s always the possibility that an interviewer simply won’t like you. In the world of MBA recruiting, the hiring companies definitely have an advantage: each company is going to screen several students and will only actually hire a select few. But regardless of your background, on any given MBA campus, there are plenty of companies you can recruit for. Don’t make your MBA experience entirely focused on one company. If you limit your possible outcomes for success, you’re definitely more likely to fail. Your MBA experience...

...Find Love in Heartache In, "The Book Thief," Liesel goes through such an incredible amount of pain and trial, but still finds a place in her heart to love the people around her. The thing that touched me the most was the heart of this little girl. At one point she describes why she isn't angry at the people around her and she describes them as, "Victims of Circumstance." I find that incredible due to the fact that these days a child will scream how much they hate their parents when they won't buy them a toy at the local super market. The most important theme of, "The Book Thief," is learning to find love in the middle of a hate filled war, like Liesel did with The Mayors library, Max, and her Papa. One of the times Liesel finds love in the book is when the mayor’s wife lets her into the large library where she can run her fingers along the spines of as many books as she can reach. Even plop down on the cold wooden floors to dive into a land more colorful and privileged than her own. Not only could she express her love for reading, but she developed a relationship with an injured woman who had lost her son at a young age. She even allowed her to open up her heart again and love the little girl. This relationship could have possibly saved her life due to the fact that she lived with the mayor and his wife after the bombing. A different kind of love she experienced was with Max Vandenburg. This in fact, was a forbidden love. A "Proper German" at the time wasn't allowed to show...
