...Online versus Traditional Education Classes Tara L Mitchell COM/155 November 17, 2013 Kevin Galvin Online versus Traditional Education Classes Even though there is more support from teachers in a traditional setting, online classes can work better for most people and their schedules. Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way - George Evans- People can enroll in either traditional or online classes; they will have to decide for themselves which way works best for them. Online classes they can go at their own pace and adjust their schedule for themselves. If they work a full time job they can come home and do their schoolwork or even on their breaks and lunch time. If they have a family they can do their schoolwork around their schedule for their children if they really want their degrees. Some people will not put the effort forth because it takes away from their “me” time. In a traditional setting they have to be in their class at a certain time and a certain day of the week. It does not matter if work is scheduled for that time or not. They have to be present in the class to get credit for the class. After class they still will have homework to have done before the next class meets. There still is no “me” time when you do the traditional classes. They also have large amounts of classwork so they cannot even start...

...Online versus Traditional Education COM/170 March 10, 2014 Teresa Purcell Online versus Traditional Education Most people believe that online education is easy. People believe that students are just sitting in front of the computer; they can switch tabs and enjoy social media, listen to music and speak on the phone while attending their class online. Reality is that online education requires time management, discipline, and the same responsibilities that a traditional education does. Online college and traditional classes require that students have excellent time management. Traditional classes allow students to have the freedom of managing their time differently compared to online students. Online schools have more structured time lines as to when participation must be completed. Online schools and traditional schools measure and grade their students participation and commitment. In traditional classrooms students voluntarily participate in class discussions, students are required to participate for a minimum of three times per class period. Traditional students attend class one day a week and manage their time differently compared to online students. Online students also have a minimum requirement of participation per week, and they are required to attend online forum classes for a minimum of three times a week. Online students are required to participate on discussion boards with other students, with a minimum posting participation of eight times a week. Therefore...

...Online Versus Traditional Education The traditional Brick and Mortar classroom setting has been around for hundreds of years, however, in today’s modern society the online classroom is becoming a more popular choice when choosing a school, especially a college. Online schooling versus the traditional campus classroom has become an increasingly popular way to attend classes with today’s new world technology. This is especially true among the working class population because of people’s time limitations, family, and working schedules. Taking classes online, allows people the freedom of studying from anywhere there is an internet connection. This eliminates the need to be in a structured brick and mortar class on a campus that may, or may not be located conveniently. Taking classes online also allows a person to attend at any given time during the day, versus attending classes on Monday, Wednesday & Friday's from eight to ten in the morning or from seven to ten on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The traditional brick and mortar campus setting for the typical college student is where all the action is, this is most popular for those students attending college for the first time straight out of High School. The college student looks forward to his or her new found freedom that the dorms allow and living at home does not provide. Living away from home in a college dorm or off campus apartment allows the student to party, go to class, and have the independence of, the adults he...

...Online Versus Traditional Education Amanda Paskiang COM/155 December 1, 2013 Lisa King Imagine having seven children, a spouse, and a job. Do you think you would have a chance to go sit in a traditional classroom in order to advance your education? This was the main reason why people did not try to get a college degree, just a decade ago. Now days, there are two types of education, the traditional setting and the online setting. There are many different advantages and disadvantages to both online and traditional education. First, there is the issue of time constraints. Many people have very little free time to which they can devote to an education. One of the disadvantages of traditional education is the time that has to be set aside at a specific time. This makes it really hard if your spouse is at work and you do not have a babysitter. In this case, maybe pursuing an online degree is best for you. It will allow you to attend your classes when it is most convenient for you. Another aspect that people look at when deciding which type of education is the best option for them is location. With today’s gas prices, most people do not want to drive back and forth to school. Therefore, they choose online education. Some people would have to drive a long way to get to a college campus, because they do not live near one. This is when the benefits of online education, being able to be done at home, outweigh the advantages of a traditional education. The third thing I am...

Founded in the early 1600s, the oldest higher education institution in America is Harvard University. In these earlier days of higher education, institutions were religious affiliated and directed students more toward spiritual studies. Many important programs created by our government stimulated enrollment through loans and grants. One of the most prominent was the National Defense Education Act of 1958. With the number of changes in higher education, some good and some bad, one thing remains the same from all, the need for change and to evolve. A new development in American education is emerging. This new change is distance education. The internet has greatly helped evolve distance education into what it is today through online learning systems. Many do not see distance education as something of high credibility. However, distance education through online learning systems today has gained great popularity in a society filled with busy individuals who do not seem to have the time to go into a classroom setting day after day. While online college discussion and instruction is different, both online and traditional colleges have a similar structure, assignments and both are regionally and nationally accredited. ...The Art of Learning Online versus On-Campus Kathryn Berry Everest University ENC1101-48 In my essay I will discuss the differences in what is expected of a student enrolled in an online course and a traditional student, how every person learns in a different way, and therefore would more actively learn in a certain environment, finances, schedule, and I will briefly discuss the job market for graduates. For me, online learning is an easier way for me to accomplish my educational goals because of my personal obligations. There are many aspects to consider when comparing on-campus learning and online learning. According to a paper entitled “Traditional vs. Online Degrees,” “To compare an online student to a traditional student is like trying to compare apples and oranges” (Sakurai, 2002) . A traditional student has a teacher in front of him/her lecturing, answering questions, and encouraging him/her. An online student receives weekly assignments. Included, are the literature, PowerPoint presentations, and or videos about what they are learning, then a list of homework to get done. In order for online students to get help, they have to write an email or call their instructor on the one day they are available. Because of these differences, it seems that online education would be more difficult, but that is not always the case. A student who has a hard time focusing on homework would not be well suited for an online education because all of the work is done at home. Unfortunately...

What is the big difference in online versus traditional education? “Each student learns differently and in today's era of increasing technology, the question will not be whether to offer classes online, but rather how to implement them,” says Allison Hiltz, a former online and traditional education student who writes for The Book Wheel Blog. The platform offers everything from certificates and diplomas to more advanced degree options such as an associate or bachelor’s degree. With constant changes in technology from all different degree programs, let’s take a look at the advantages to an online versus traditional education and examine how each type of education impacts you as a student. Online vs. traditional education: flexibility One of the key components to consider when weighing the options is the amount of time you have everyday to work on your degree. Are you willing and able to attend college full-time or do you need more flexibility for your busy schedule? Flexibility was a major concern for Casey Horton, a graduate of sociology and psychology from Ashford University. Horton, a working adult, needed an online program because of the convenience...

...Online education versus face-to-face Nicole Mackie COM/155 November 24, 2012 Lezli Pearson Online education versus face-to-face There are several reasons online schooling is better than traditional schooling. Online schooling gives better delivery of the material. Traditional schools will often charge more than online classes. There is more flexibility for students with other commitments in online education. Online schooling requires dedication, discipline, and a distraction-free-environment, but online is better because it allows flexibility and often charges less than traditional schools. Concerning grading papers, online is so much faster than traditional. Because all online students work at different paces and when done with assignments can send them right in for grading not having to wait for the next class session, allowing the teacher to grade or send correction feedback before the assignment is due. This also gives the teacher time to look over them as they come in, a few at a time instead of 25 all on the same day because of class schedules. With online classes grading for papers is easier because everything is transmitted via a computer which calculates how many words are in the paper, where as traditional schooling the teachers have to count each word of everyone’s papers and if you have 25 students it, can take more of your time just making sure they have enough words. With online classes it has been my experience that if I have questions I can get them...
