...A Search for “One Amazing Thing” in my life…. Aravind Karthikeyan Being involved with selling books in a premium stall as in like penquin, it is indeed a great privilege that one can delight himself through swimming in that pool of literature and exploring ways to develop various patterns of thinking and such a privilege was a gift for me, in this book fair time. Whenever time stretched me an opportunity to take a long breathe as in a rest, I always wanted to feel my breath through a book which gets me something to cherish while I engage back to my work. Such was a day when my fingers floated over the neatly and ergonomically stacked books, it stuck between two piles, Ooops! My mind did not reject me to stop for a look, I found my little finger trapped between Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Chitra Divakarunni. Suddenly did I notice the beautiful cover of the book on which rest of my four fingers relaxed, none other than the elegant greenish metallic cover of “One Amazing Thing” by Chitra Divakarunni. Even though, I had no time to browse through, I felt as though It was my fingers’ gift for my mind the particular day. I started reading through the pages which smelled reminding me a soothing nostalgia. I read a few pages first, finding it simple and realistic. The work focuses on few very unique people who meet each other in the Consulate for Visa matters between USA and India and how they share each other in a beautiful manner of narration; regarding just ONE amazing thing in their...

...are either wrong or right. Am not saying marriage is excluded but my pioint is that it is not just about you getting hooked to someone but it concerns your entire lfe . In life we make lot od decisions. Some make them out of fear and anxiety, some out of circumstances surrounding them, some out of familys advice or even friends etc. While some make decisions actually from the lords counsel, persnal view and so many too numerous to mention. Therefore i saw it important to write on this subject matter i tittled 'BEFORE I SAY I DO'. What are the thoughts that flies through our mind when we are about to make decisions, do we really seek the lords idea or we just heard some fake voice from friends, family members or even our personal view and ooops we take the bold step. And when we fail we either feel depress or put the blame on whoever gave us their opinion. This accusation could be eliminated only if we obey some vital principles am about to list down which will be able to lead us into our desire, sustain us there and make us avoid mistakes as we go on with our lives. First, we talk about four(4) vital questions that we ask our selves befor saying the hrase 'i do' to any area of life weather marriage, career or anything at all, in as much it has to do with making of decisions. These questions include; WHAT DO I UNDERSTAND ABOUT WHAT AM ABOUT TO DO? Do i really have enough and strong foundation for this deision i am about to take or am i just having a soft mind towards a hard decison...

...Functional Dependency is mainly known as Normalization. Professor Codd in 1970 was the first person to define it. There are three steps to this dependency. Normalization is used to eliminate the three types of anomalies which are insertion, deletion and update anomalies. The three normalization are what a database can suffer from. They also define what the database is about because of all the work that goes into it. The Insertion Anomaly is when some of the data cannot be added into the database. There are just certain areas of the database where information just cannot be added or else it would mess up the system or get you a big (OOOPS). Update an0omaly is when there is redundancy going on in the database which will cause changes to everything that is in the database. Instead of change one information and the database changing all of them, a person has to go and do it one step at a time. Deletion anomaly is deleting of some data that causes other information to be lost or deleted. Example -1. Assume the following relation Student-courses (Sid:pk, Sname, Phone, Courses-taken) Where attribute Sid is the primary key, Sname is student name, Phone is student's phone number and Courses-taken is a table contains course-id, course-description, credit hours and grade for each course taken by the student. More precise definition of table Course-taken is : Course-taken (Course-id:pk, Course-description, Credit-hours, Grade) According to the definition of first normal form relation...

Evan Golub / Ben Bederson / Saul Greenberg 2 Introspection Method: User Conceptual Model Extraction • Show the users low-fidelity prototypes or screenshots of medium-fidelity prototypes (user-centered walkthrough). • Ask the user to explain what each screen element does or represents as well as how they would attempt to perform individual tasks. • This allows us to gain insight as to a user’s initial perception of our interface and the mental model they might...

...Deeq Arab July, 22 2008 Eng 102 Tuesday-Thursday 12:30-1:50 Mr. Chris Anderson Death Penalty Death penalty is one of the rules mankind practiced it for long times since the early ages of men there has been the death penalty in one way or another. The death penalty has created a lot of argument between people. In the United States the use of capital punishment was famous in the early 1950s executing nearly 100per year. After the 50s supporter started to weaken and in time it went down and came up. In any issue some people will go for it, some will not. In this case of death penalty some people believe that if you take a life you are a menace to society and should be banished from this earth. On the other hand some believe that life is valuable and no one is applicable to take a life other than the creator of life. The critics of the death penalty say practicing these activities such as the death penalty give respect and harmony to murders who take life by force. After all we are humans and our minds are the mother of different ideas, views and arguments. Is the death penalty just? Pro Supporters say there is no better punishment for a person who takes a life other than the death penalty. Majority of supporters of death penalty relied on Holy Scriptures which most of them state that a human life is worth a human life. that is the right justice. It’s cruel and inhuman practice but the person that commits the murder didn’t think about it when he/she were in charge...

...Cognitive Linguistic and Idioms General considerations about cognitive linguistics Cognitive linguistics is a new approach to the study of language which emerged in the late seventies and early eighties and interprets linguistic knowledge as part of general cognition and thinking. This new contemporary study that argues that language is governed by general cognitive principles, rather than by a special –purpose language module, is therefore associated with semantics, but is distinct from psycholinguistics, which draws upon empirical findings from cognitive psychology in order to explain the mental processes that underlie the acquisition and storage of speech. The most influential linguists working along these lines and focusing on cognitive principles were Charles Fillmore, Wallace Chafe, George Lakoff, Dirk Geeraerts, Roland Langacker and Leonard Talmy. The most important assumption shared by all these researchers is that meaning is so central to language that it must be a primary focus of study. Linguistic structures serve the function of expressing meanings and thus, the mapping between meaning and form are a prime subject of linguistic analysis. In The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Linguistics, Dirk Geerates stated : “ Cognitive Linguistics is the study of language in its cognitive function, where cognitive refers to the crucial role of intermediate informational structures in our encounters with the world. Cognitive Linguistics is cognitive in the same way that cognitive...

...A night at the University by, Noor Ashiqin bt Jusoff Albar Qurratu’aini bt Noorzam Khoo Chui Choo Effarizan Hassan Prologue: The sudden sounds of breaking twigs on the ground made the three friends shiver in fear. It has never crossed their minds that they would end up getting stuck alone in their University at that time of hour. Ironically, they used to stay in the abandoned hostel not far away from where they are and be roaming the grounds as though they lived the land for generations long. “Of all days” Muffy puffed “your car just HAD to break down today.” The loudest of the group complained. The chatterbox felt a jolt to her heart when she saw a moving figure walking straight down their direction. A human like figure, darkened by the night, walked slowly and swayed step by step closer to them. “Muffy…,” Ezan trembled in the small voice, tugging Muffy’s shirt signalling her to be cautious. “Guys, maybe we should turn back,” Que said alarmingly at the sight of the silhouette. The three friends stopped in their steps, allowing the cold damp night air to sweep across their cheeks. Their hearts pounded like the stomping of horse hooves during a race. Their fingers cold as ice and faces white as sheet making neither of them bolder than the other. “ARE YOU ALSO LOST?!” Muffy exclaimed. Que and Ezan jumped at the sound of her shout. “Muffy! Are you insane?” Que said alarmed. “You can’t just say anything to it!” Ezan said terrified. “You will...

...BOOKKEEPING & ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS Why do bookkeeping? Bookkeeping has two primary functions: to provide you with information that will allow preparation of tax reports, and to provide information that will help you manage your business, see trends and implement changes. Satisfying the tax requirements is how many small businesses organize this function within their company. I would rather see you focus on the management information systems, and make sure they do the job for the taxman. The keeping of timely and accurate financial records is imperative if any business is to succeed. You want to set up a system that is as simple as possible, yet acquires the necessary information to help you better manage the business. Over time, you will learn to read your financial reports so that at a glance you can determine how you are doing, and look at making changes which will correct those things that you are not comfortable with. Should I hire an accountant? This depends on what your skills, time availability, and complexity of the business you are starting. In general, most all business should be using the services of a tax advisor or accountant for some matters. The tax codes change rapidly, and keeping up with all the changes and provisions make it difficult to be a do-it-yourselfer in this area. You can do much of the work yourself, and then have an accountant review and make recommendations. Another approach is to use the services of an accountant to begin, and...

The authors are highly experienced craftsmen and professionals dedicated to writing about what actually works in practice, as opposed to what might work in theory. You will read about what the author has done, not what he thinks you should do. If the book is about programming, there will be lots of code. If the book is about managing, there will be lots of case studies from real projects. These are the books that all serious practitioners will have on their bookshelves.
