The ethical lens assignment has allowed me to me burrow deeper into my feelings about myself. When someone asks you define things about yourself it really makes you look inward. I had to dig deeper than I could imagine and go places within myself that I didn’t want to revisit. Things went through my mind, like who I am I really, what type of things are important to me, and how does all these things tie back to my ethics. I would say the “Ethical Lenses” I preferred to use the most are the “Responsibilities” and the “Relationship” lenses.
I didn’t realize that the choices I made as a teenager would affect me for the rest of my life and I didn’t think that I really understood how responsible I would have to become because of them. I got pregnant when I was 16 and had my first child when I turned 17. I remember looking down on my son and saying to myself “I promised that my child(ren) would never have to suffer for the choices that I made in my life”. With that promise I didn’t realize at the time all the things that I would have to do to make that happen. My children are a huge part of my life; they come first before anything and everything. Responsibility for me meant making sure my children would grow up in a safe and stable environment, and they would hot meals on the table every day. The responsible person that I have become came from the promise I made, all the morals and values I hold now are because of the promise. I think being so responsible at a young age made me grow up faster than others my age. Even though I have had my share of bad times in life but I’ve never let them make me unhappy. I have always try to stay strong and most important fulfill that promise that I made to my children. My parents raised me to have respect for people around me and be responsible in everything I do.

Open Science Collaboration Paper

...Generally, these concerns then bring to light the recurring issue around the concept of reproducibility within the scientific community. According to those who participated in the Open Science Collaboration (2012) research paper, reproducibility is the process of “obtaining a meaningful estimate of reproducibility requires conducting replications of a sizable number of studies” (p. 658). The Econmist’s (2013) article acknowledges reproducibility as a core principle of science, which expresses that: “The idea that the same experiments always get the same results, no matter who performs them, is one of the cornerstones of science’s claim to objective truth. If a systematic campaign of replication does not lead to the same results, then either...

Self Reflective Analysis

...have been able to improve on those things. The improvements came about from the different type of essays that we had to write and it brought a whole lot of strengths from it. Although in the past years we have learned on how to write a lot of these papers this year we dove a little more into them. We took different approaches to them to get more out of them than we had before, such as the personal narrative. I have written a personal narrative in the past but this time it helped me improve because i could not just be basic. I learned that i would have to write more in detail for it be a quality paper, that i couldn’t just get away with writing it like a 9th grader any more. The improvement was just as small as having to do with the intro and getting better with my attention getters. It benefitted me because we have to write intos in all of our papers and if you write an intro that can’t grab the attention, no one...

Personal Narrative: Coming Into Carleton

...Coming into Carleton, I was terrified at the idea of having to write at a college level. I had only written one big paper in High School and I had no idea how to do research. It was a hard experience and I had to push myself to a point that allowed me to present data in the best way possible. Thankfully, friends and the Writing Center were there at every step of my development into a confident writer. Aside from that, some of the most rewarding projects at Carleton were surprisingly assigned papers. They allowed me to express myself in a way that I had not previously experienced. It allowed me to incorporate my love for linear mathematical thinking into a less restrictive medium. And most importantly, I was able to immortalize my grandmother’s...
