In Hamlet by William Shakespeare's Hamlet has many things he uses as distractions. Like Ophelia she is there to shift the fact that hamlet is going crazy for want of power. She is his “love interest” and he puts her in weird situation to make himself not look too crazy. He also uses the play to distract them. He is mad at his uncle for killing his father, marrying his mother, and taking all the power of the kingdom that belonged to him. Since Ophelia is Hamlet's love interest she is put on the spot. She is told by her brother Laertes that it's nothing “As for Hamlet and his flirtation with you, think of it as a normal and playful passion” (p. 37). And when hamlet offers her his love she confides in her father that she is confused
