The attitude has emerged in today’s modern world due to the increased in awareness of the importance to maintain a healthy lifestyle by consuming foods without unsafe additives, preservatives, flavor and coloring. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation, therefore promotes the healthy food characteristics. However, based on the reviewed of literatures, there were some inconsistencies in the previous research findings. In terms of perceived value towards organic food product, most of the research found positive and not less also discovered negative result mainly due the lack of some special value in the eyes of consumers. For instance, higher in price, not value for money, satisfied with the existing conventional food, doubts on the product guarantee and unclear declarations of the organic status. ...Organic foods have become very popular through out the United States. There are many different things that make organic food better, but there are bad things about it as well. I will be telling mostly about the good in organic food. Organic must pass a certain standard to be labeled organic. The food must pass a test given by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Crops have to be grown natural meaning not using any pesticides, artificial fertilizers and irradiation. As for animals they must be on an organic farm and eat organically grown food, they also must have space to be freely and not always stuck in a barn. The biggest thing that animals cannot have is antibiotics or synthetic grown hormones. I choose to talk about why organic is the best option because of many different reasons. Even though organic foods cost more money it is still a good option. There is a lot more you have to do with organic foods and that's why it cost more money. The first being labor cost rising because they are not using chemicals the crops need more care and attention. The workers have to spend more time at work doing harder labor, so they are paying more money for labor then conventional farms. The second reason is the demand of organic food has highly increased since 1997. They can't produce organic food as fast as other foods. If they can't produce organic food fast enough then their is a shortage, instead they have to work harder and longer to meet the demands of organic...

How foods are grown or raised can impact both your health and the environment. This brings up the questions: What is the difference between organic foods and conventionally grown foods? Is “organic” always best? Are GMOs safe? What about locally grown foods? What does “organic” mean? The term “organic” refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed. Specific requirements must be met and maintained in order for products to be labeled as "organic." ...Allen ENG101 Polly Sapakie 11/16/2013 Organic Food: It is the Healthier Choice There is rising need for organic items are the shelves. So grocery stores are stocking their stores with food labeled organic. Organic refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat (Organic Food). The thought is that organic items have a tendency to be healthier for the individual and better for the environment when matched to non-organic items. There are many pros and cons to both organic and non-organic products. Consumers should consume more local food since organic foods are healthier, the agricultural processes are better for the environment, and it decreases transportation expenses. Organic farmers use crop rotation, cover crops and beneficial insects to fight pests, and composting to fertilize instead of using chemicals like conventional farmers. Occasionally, farmers will use botanical, or plant-based pesticides (Koch). Conventional farmers use chemical fertilizers to help plants grow and they use synthetic herbicides to control weeds. Conventional farmers also use artificial insecticides to lower the pests and disease, gives animals antibiotics and growth hormones and medications to stop disease and make them grow more. Organic uses natural fertilizers, natural pesticides to reduce pests and disease, rotate crops, hand weed to manage weeds. They feed the animals organic feed and allow them to be outside grazing...

...1 Austin Greear English 95 Dr. Sandin 6 June 2013 Organic Food Benefits “Organic Food Consumption is one of the fastest growing segments of U.S. domestic foodstuffs. Sales of organic food and beverages grew from $1 billion in 1990 to $21.1 billion in 2008” (Walter J. Crinnion, ND 4), and is continuing to increase year after year. There has been many studies on the differences between non-organic and organic food, and there is one universal truth. Compared to non-organic food, organic food has better health benefits, according to research, as well as more nutrition, and less pesticides. To determine the health benefits of organic food, researchers used a fruit fly called Drosophila Melanogaster, raised it on organic produce, and tested the overall fly health. “Flies raised on diets made from organically grown produce had greater fertility and longevity. On certain food sources, greater activity and greater stress resistance was additionally observed, suggesting that organic food bestows positive effects on fly health” (Ria Chhabra, Santharam Kolli, Johannes H. Bauer 1). Through this knowledge and several other studies, it is safe to say that organic food has higher levels of nutrients that are essential to the body, as well as higher protein. “Organic food has furthermore been shown to contain lower levels of nitrates, which may explain some of the improved health characteristics of Drosophila raised on organic foods” (Ria Chhabra, Santharam Kolli, Johannes H. Bauer 7)...

...Revamp The Organic James Miller DeVry University Revamp The Organic Is the need for organic foods in our society, diets, and health being represented and explained well today? Actually it is in a worse state than ever. The knowledge is out there but it is just floating around with no one to help people really grasp the concept. People are either confused or don’t care because organic food isn’t getting the credit it deserves. Most people will not consider organic foods a life changing diet because they are unaware that when the food is truly organic and fresh it contains all the nutrients our human bodies need; another issue is that some organic foods are being misrepresented by companies that shouldn’t aloud to have organic logos on non-organic food. Ignorance of the things that can help your health is a huge hindrance to the kinds of things organic foods can do to enhance human body health. People can’t eat healthy if they don’t even know what healthy eating is. It is as simple as educating those that are unaware of organic foods impact on a person’s diet. Organic labels slapped onto non-organic food can quickly kill the name organic for the foods that actually are. Companies will often say something is organic either because every product like it already is or just to trick unaware customers into buying what they see. This is so they get all the off guard customers money and thus taking away from the ones that are truly organic but might be more expensive. The real...

...Consumer Perception Towards Organic Food Products in India T. Bhama and Vedha Balaji1 Management Studies, Christ University, Bangalore 1 Institute of Management, Christ University, Bangalore E-mail: bhama.t@christuniversity.in; vedha.balaji@christuniversity.in ABSTRACT Consumers worldwide are becoming health conscious and are concerned about nutrition (Hart, 2000) and the quality of food consumed. Consumers are also increasingly concerned with food safety issues taking into consideration, the recent salmonella case in Germany and elsewhere. Gil, Gracia and Sanchez (2000) have investigated that consumers are getting health conscious and are paying more attention to quality of food consumed. Therefore, food must deliver an added value that are sought after by consumers besides basic hedonistic and functional needs such as nutrition, taste, health, favorable price-quality ratio, etc., in the selection of food. This added value may be perceived in the form of ecological, social and individual benefit. A study on consumer perception towards organic food products may add insight into the nascent but emerging organic food industry in India. The review of related literature in the area of organic food products and consumer perception studied has provided many insights for the study. It has also provided direction in designing the present study. A number of researchers have identified various factors that influence consumer perception of organic food products mainly in developed...

...While supporters may pay three times as much for organic foods and say it is safer, more nutritious, and better for the environment; there is research that shows that organic food is not healthier nor significantly safer than the conventional alternative. A meta-analysis of 237 studies led by Stanford University researchers compared the nutrient and contaminant levels in organic food to the levels in conventional foods. The research concluded there is no significant evidence to determine that organic foods are more nutritious than conventional foods. However, conventional produce had a 30% higher pesticide residue than organic produce (Smith-Spangler et al., 2012). This study was conducted very well and included a variety of evidence to make the conclusions more reliable and generalizable. One thing that researchers noticed is that many of these studies had publication bias and reported incomplete results to find differences in the two types of produce where none exist. Another limitation to the study was that many of the studies were done in an experimental field that may not replicate the practices done in the real world. Many individuals buy organic foods with the belief that it is pesticide free. The Stanford University study has already confirmed that organic foods have less pesticide than conventional produce, thus proving that organic doesn’t necessarily mean pesticide free. In fact, some of the pesticides used in organic farming can be just as detrimental if not more so...
