...Organizational Behavior Paper Linda C. O’Neal MGT/312 - ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR FOR MANAGERS June 1, 2015 Professor Tina Emrich Organizational Behavior The study of organizational behavior is an academic discipline concerned with describing, understanding, predicting, and controlling human behavior in an organizational environment. Organizational behavior has evolved from early classical management theories into a complex school of thought—and it continues to change in response to the dynamic environment and proliferating corporate cultures in which today's businesses operate. Crafting an organization that functions as efficiently as possible is a difficult task. Understanding the behavior of a single person is a challenge. Understanding the behavior of a group of people, each one with a complex relationship with the others in the group is an even more difficult undertaking. It is, however a worthy undertaking because ultimately the work of an organization is done through the behavior driven actions of people, individually or collectively, on their own or in collaboration with technology. Therefore, a central part of the management task is the management of organizational behavior. The Behavioral Sciences Organizational behavior scientists study four primary areas of behavioral science: individual behavior, group behavior, organizational structure, and organizational processes. They investigate many facets of these areas like personality and perception, attitudes...

...I work for Schwans Corporation at a pie factory in Stilwell Oklahoma. Our plant produced 25.7 million pounds of finished product last year, running at 95% production efficiency. I had the pleasure of talking to Sheila Chucolate, the plant manager, on two occasions about her position in the plant, overall taking over two hours. I interview her touching on six major management issues; her personality and core values, her philosophy about work and management, leadership and mentoring, the organizational goals and objectives, social responsibility and company culture; discrimination, sexual harassment and diversity, and finally just touching on IT, internet, and globalization. Personality and Managers Core Values Shela considered herself to have an extroversive personality telling me “You have to be positive even in the toughest circumstances.” She exerted both agreeable and conscientious tendencies, a real people person, but she was also re-thinking her work, and double checking others. Sheila said it was always easy to relate to others, she was raised very generous and caring, making her sensitive to others which she said had both helped her and hurt her at times. I asked if her experiences as a manager changed her, she laughed and said that she us to be a timid person now can be assertive if need to be. Sheila also demonstrated an external locus of control by confessing that her Dad in raising and still encouraging her had got her where she is today. Philosophy about...

...Personality Assessment Organizational Behavior Part 1. Understanding own personality is definitely an important task. It is not easy to do for most people, but at the same time there is almost no chance of succeeding in life, no matter what particularly does a person hold under that, without at least trying to understand oneself. The main tool here is a constant assessment of your personality, its scales and traits, your behavior in different situations and under various circumstances. Analyzing these information and trying to learn from gained experience should produce a better understanding of what a person you are and what things in life are the most preferable for you. Most importantly, such assessment and analysis should point out character’s weaknesses that are supposed to be eliminated or at least fixed in some way. The process of self-improvement, which consists of improving personality’s better sides and fixing any weak traits, will make it sufficiently easier to communicate with other people, either in the work setting or in the personal life. I think that self-assessment is never perfect, while it’s done by a human being, because person’s feelings and emotions interfere in one way or another. Nevertheless, when a person is deliberately trying to be objective, the assessment might be rather accurate. One of my personality’s strengths is high openness to experience. In my knowledge it was confirmed not only by questionnaires and...

...Organizational Behavior Research Paper Edgar Cervantes SEC/390 November 2, 2015 Daniel Alexander Organizational Behavior Research Paper Organizational Behavior is the study of the functioning and performance of individuals, groups, and teams within organizations as well as of organizations as a whole. Based on scientific research and empirical data, organizational behavior theorists attempt to understand, predict, and influence behavior at all levels within the organization (internet). Learning about Organizational Behavior can help you develop a better work- related understanding of yourself and others; it is a knowledge platform that can expand your potential for career success in the dynamic, shifting and complex new workplaces of today and tomorrow (textbook). Problems that I have encountered at work are the lack of leadership, and communication. The lack of leadership is that our supervisor or person in charge at night does very little to motivate others in working as a team and getting things done as needed. Most of the time we find ourselves without a leader or our leader showing up late to guide us in our projects. We find ourselves figuring things out on our own most of the time, which most of the time makes us wonder why the person in charge at night is in charge at all. There is little communication with the person in charge, regularly we have to walk around looking for the individual if we have a question because he doesn’t answer his radio when called...

It will also discuss to what extent communication within the organization is determined by the organization’s culture. Also, it will describe the role communication plays in perceptions and organizational culture by looking at how differences between espoused and enacted values can affect the perceptions within the organization. Finally, this paper will identify the role that conflict has in group communication by looking at how Walt Disney Company may use conflict to improve communication within and among their groups. These men and women dedicate their lives to serving our country and make the ultimate sacrifice. Marines are trained the term Semper Fi takes on a whole new meaning, Semper Fi has been an expression of the marines since 1883. ...PART ONE This paper will focus on two aspects of my life that I am very passionate about - my ongoing pursuit of higher education and my work in the humanitarian sector. I have focused on these two areas because becoming a superstar takes more than a diploma (White, 21). It requires the merger of knowledge and action. Abu Bakr, the first Muslim Caliph, is credited with saying “without knowledge, action is useless and knowledge without action is futile”. I believe that combining knowledge and action is a key element in achieving ‘Superstar’ status as described in Professor White’s book, The Superstar Roadmap: How Ordinary People Build Extraordinary Careers. In the following pages, I will relate personal experiences with Dr. White’s Superstar Roadmap and explore personal mastery of the nine steps. Deep inside, I have always felt an insatiable need for education. I have recognized its importance and have spent considerable time reading from the best books, attending formal courses, and informally seeking out dynamic authors and lecturers. In addition, I have always know that someday I would like to start a family and that I will need to be a good example to my children. One of many ways that I can demonstrate the importance of education to them is to be a living example of the principles I hope to teach them. The pursuance of education has not been easy for me and has often been inconvenient but when I listen to my heart and try to act on those feelings, I know that pursuing...

...Name BUS610 Organizational Behavior Leadership Style Professor Date What is an organization? According to Kinicki and Kreitner it is a system of consciously coordinated activities or forces of two or more persons. My company is a loose organization without rules, broadly defined tasks, and informal communication. Our parent company is in the United Kingdom and the way they do business versus the way business is done here in the States is very different. We recently moved into a newly established office and the change has been difficult at times. The idea was that with a regional office that there would be less “siloing” and more communication between the employees. While this has happened on some level there is also much consternation for the established employees in that they are expected to be in the office two days a week at a minimum. Thursdays have been designated as “Team Thursday” and everyone is expected to be in the office if they are not at a client site or meeting. The idea is that we have a large enough group of employees within the local area that having an office for company meetings, client visits, training or other needs makes sense. The COO and HR Director were the ones that chose the location and office space. It is convenient that the new office is within four miles of their current homes. There has been resistance to the new office rules. Recently a strong email was sent out from the COO about the number of days in the office, arrival...

...Normally an organization has a mission statement that will express what the company’s main values are along with what their goals are. The goals along with the values that are set by the company will normally act as a foundation of the guidelines that the company sets for themselves. There are times when the guidelines that are set by the company are not followed as they should be. The company Southwest Airlines is one of the major air transportation that is provide in the United States. The organizational culture for the company Southwest Airlines is tended to be more toward having extraordinary customer service. They are also more employees’ oriented (Southwest Airlines Co.). The key to an organizations being successful is to have excellent communication skills. If the company is having trouble with communicating between management to employees that then the goals along with the values that are set forth by the company then they are not going to be met. The best idea for a company is to have an open communication line that goes between the two: both the managers and the employees. No matter how affective you set up your communication within a company there is always a chance that there will be a conflict. These conflicts can result from human motivations, human emotion, disagreement on how they should proceed, and political philosophy. If conflict does happen there are things that a manager can do to defuse then such as empathy, listening and exploring. Empathy is an expression...

...Siberia a part of Russia makes the largest region of the northern asia. Though its richness both in minerals and agriculture, Siberia was one of the most preferred place by the Europeans to be an exile place since it was considered a cheap system of purnishing the wrong doers in the society rather than building jails to hold them up. Siberia was declared an exile place by the Russians decades ago after their exploration to the land. In the 1800 most of the exiles in Siberia were war prisoners who were involved in the second world war. The uses of Siberia as an exile place for war prisoners later it became un economical due to the fact that it lacked moder prisons though it continued to catter for more and more war verterans due to the limited space that the Russians prison had and considering the fact that it was cheap to have people moved to the area and support them selves and also it made it possible to move people away from the capitol where if left there would cause some havoc bothe to the government and to the people. Through the leadership of Nicholas II, Siberia was viewed as a place of great interest booth to the locals and the people who came from far parts of the region. He encouraged the colonization of Siberia due to its richness in gold and also its agricultural potential. He also made a move in reducing rural over population in the country by moving people to Siberia not mentioning how the railway helped in the opening up of the region to the rest of the world....

The hidden factor of an organization’s success is the organizational behavior and culture. The way the business determines the values on people and principles within describes the organizational culture. One will define the organizational behavior and culture in the workplace along with how diversity and communication relate to the outcome of both culture and behavior. Organizational Behavior: The definition of organizational behavior (OB) from the textbook (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2008), describes OB as the study or learning of many individuals and the different groups they belong to within the organizations. Some people will label the particular field of study as an “interdisciplinary” because the main focal point of OB has a number of disciplines. The disciplines are broken down into sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, and political science. By studying the disciplines from organizational behavior managers can find the most effective ways in motivating people to perform at their best without the need for the manager to believe he or she needs to “push” in a relative sense to obtain the most out of subordinates. When managers push people, they can significantly reduce the level of morale within the structure. By pushing less or letting the process work...
