Summary: Is it possible to sabotage yourself in the workplace? Yes, some people tend to look for trouble. This falls under organizational behavior and the human decision. Here is a prime example of how people indeed do get messed up on their jobs. Through a survey and a series of experiments these three authors set out to prove that if not careful we can indeed sabotage ourselves. In the study they try to demonstrate how co-workers seem to pick out people with paranoia and these types of behaviors. Therefore setting themselves up for gossip, because of their eavesdropping and suspicious behavior against their peers this causes the light to come on them.
Analysis: If you go looking for trouble you will definitely find it. Sometimes our actions speak louder than words. I thought that the authors did a wonderful job showing how it is possible to sabotage yourself in the work place. After all, our behavior toward our jobs and our peers, affects our attitudes and our overall performance on the job. Behavior is basically goal oriented. Generally we behave as we do because we are motivated to attain a particular goal, although the goal we are pursuing may not be known by our conscious mind. (Week 1 lecture B par.1).
IN my opinion: This is a means of control in the workplace and causes the employees as well as the employer to look at you in a negative way. You will be deemed as a trouble maker and eventually because of this type behavior it will eventually result in losing your job. No one likes a trouble maker or a busy body. This causes other serious problems to occur in the workplace as well. An employer wants their employees to put their best foot forward in the workplace for better production and for a stress free environment. With
