Attitude and thoughts are factors on how an individual interacts on a daily basis. These ideas can be good or bad but either way it affects how we act towards people and ourselves. In some cases we have to take a step back and analyze the reasons why we act the way we do. There are ways we can do this by writing how we feel down, having someone analyze us, or taking surveys. The LSI survey is a way we can see where we fit in amongst other individuals. This survey helps assess our personality characteristics and other traits according to how we interact in society. I took the survey to see where my personality traits rate with other people. I will go over the results and how a person can learn and change from them.
The LSI survey is a circle that is broken in many parts. There are 3 areas that the circle is broken into which are satisfaction needs, task orientation, and security needs. The primary part is the satisfaction needs whereas the backup tells you what causes these traits. When it comes to the scoring of the survey I had my highest in the constructive styles 1, 2, 11, and 12. These help with self-enhancing thinking and behavior that causes satisfaction. Number 1 is the humanistic encouraging
The Humanistic-Encouraging scale measures our interest in people, our tendency to care about others, and our ability to encourage them to improve. Humanistic-Encouraging people are accepting of themselves, and accept others for who they are without any issues. I believe I am definitely like this because I am not a judgmental person. Number 2 is the affiliate part that measures degree of commitment to forming and sustaining satisfying relationships. This is the area where people want to establish long relationships with others. I think when it comes to seeking relationships I am like that because I want to have long term relationships with people and enjoy having them. It shows to me that people want to have relationships with me. The number 11 part deals with achievement whether that is in the workplace, relationships and additional areas. Number 12 is associated with self-actualizing qualities. The Self-Actualizing scale measures a way of thinking that results in the highest form of personal fulfillment. Becoming self-actualized is the final step in one's growth and maturation process. This style is characterized by an unusually high acceptance of self, others and situations as they are. Self-actualized people are creative and imaginative, and take a unique approach to life.
The backup areas to the LSI Survey are 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10. The areas where I received the lowest are 6, 9 and 3. Number 6 on the scale is avoidance. This shows the fear of failure, a strong tendency to deny responsibility for one's own behavior and Feelings of guilt over real or imagined mistakes. Even though I scored low on this section it shows that I have a sense of self-worth and fear of failure. It also helps give me an opportunity to correct my mistakes so I can learn and grow from them. I do agree with this because when I have a mistake in the workplace or do something wrong I try my best to see where I went wrong and try to fix it. This just doesn’t help me improve it also helps me analyze myself to see what I can do to do better in my job and overall my department.
In number 9, the Competitive scale measures our need to establish a sense of self-worth through competing against and comparing ourselves to others. While it is largely encouraged and accepted as a measure of success people don’t feel the need to compete. Since I scored lower in the area it shows me that I don’t feel the need to compete with people. I don’t feel like I should have to compete with others whether it is in the workplace and in other aspects of life. It just doesn’t seem important to me because if something is meant to be it will happen. When I see others succeed yes it influences me to be better but I also don’t get an emotion to be really competitive with others.
In number 3, The Approval scale measures our need to be accepted by others to increase or sustain our feelings of self-worth. While the desire to be approved of is natural, problems occur when approval-seeking becomes a need, and ultimately our standard way of interacting with others. When we need approval, we typically try to please everyone but ourselves. It shows how people appreciate approval when it comes your way, but you do not need it. Not needing approval frees you to speak and act according to your own feelings, and to rely on your own judgment and instincts. Because you are not preoccupied with being accepted by others, you can concentrate on your own growth and fulfillment. Even though I scored low in this section I feel like I don’t need approval from others but I do feel the need of acceptance so I know at least I am doing something right or wrong.
The factors that I think would influence my management style are number 8 and 10 because these are the areas that would affect me being a good manager. Number 8 is the power style and this shows how I would deal with my employees. The power style is depicted by shows that experiencing power-oriented leadership, and have adopted a tendency toward this behavior as a result. You prefer to take charge and make decisions, and sometimes have difficulty taking direction from others. I am not a manager but if I was I would want to be a good planner and organize very well. I say this because if you don’t organize well it makes everything else in the department have problems and issues. It doesn’t show that the plan was thought out properly. Leading and controlling my employee wouldn’t be hard because I wouldn’t want to be an overbearing boss but I would want to make sure everything is done effectively and efficiently without giving my workers unnecessary stress. I know how it is to have a strict manager and it’s not the best way to be. It made me very stressed out to the point I wanted to leave the job even though I enjoyed it very much.
The number 10 is The Perfectionistic scale measures the degree to which we feel a driven need to be seen by others as perfect. I would say that I am a perfectionist when it comes to my job. I always say if anything else in my life isn’t good work has to be done great. This would be a problem also because if something isn’t done right I get upset because it would have been a silly mistake or something I didn’t pay attention to. I am very detail-oriented so that works in being a perfectionist also but like I mentioned before it would be a weakness as well. Planning and organizing the tasks that have to be accomplished should be well thought-out.
In conclusion, I have discussed the parts to the LSI survey that helped assess my qualities and personality traits. I discussed humanistic-encouraging style, affiliative, achievement, and self-actualizing. The other areas of the LSI survey that should help any individual in a managerial role are power and the perfectionist scale. These illustrated to me that I am bit perfectionist but it’s not bad because I want to make sure the job is going to be done right and not have many mistakes. Overall this survey helped me in ways I didn’t know it could because it showed me where I can improve and also the qualities I have that are great and useful in my everyday life. People should definitely take this survey once and truthfully to see where they stand in the qualities they hold close to them and areas that need improvement. Self-improvement is important because it shows us that we are capable of growing and improving ourselves for the better.
