It’s been incredible to witness how much the organization that I work for has changed during the several years that I’ve been here! Organizations, as a whole, have undergone significant changes since the 1990s and a safe assumption is that much of that change stems from advanced technology and the automation of various processes organization-wide. Personal experience says that, if used correctly, process automation has great potential to improve efficiency and increase productivity. Since the 1990’s organizations have become much more efficient. Continuously refining processes during the course of the past 20 years to allow us to do more with less.
Technology has played a pivotal role in organization change as well. Technological advances in the past few decades have greatly increased the competitive nature of the economic business world. Companies have used software, computers and the Internet to transform their businesses from local places of business to national and global market competitors. Many companies have responded to these changes by automating their business processes and capturing industry-related information and using it to their advantage. Technology has also forced businesses to remain flexible, adapting their operations to newer and better technological advances
With increasing pressure to keep costs down, improve performance and service delivery, companies are looking for solutions that automate processes, standardize best practices, and improve efficiency. Over the past couple of decades, businesses have devoted increasing attention to business processes, their improvement, and their automation. This interest grows out of the need to streamline business operations, consolidate organizations, and reduce costs. Continuous improvement is at the heart of process automation. The ability to have the information with which to continuously improve processes and gain incremental return on investment (ROI) on a consistent basis is a major benefit of process automation. In this competitive business environment where we are asked to cut costs and do more with less, process improvement is essential to staying alive and meeting our strategic objectives. Process automation can facilitate process implementation and improvement, provide consistency in process execution, ensure regulatory compliance, and allow us to change in response to rapidly changing conditions and demands.
