As a younger kid, your dreams and goals are more of a fantasy such as becoming a superhero, ballerina, or a cowboy, but when I was younger I wanted to be an Anesthesiologist. I have always had high expectations for myself and wanted to be very successful. The older I got, the more I realized that was not the job for me because I would not be able to handle the blood. When I got into junior high most of my friends were getting braces and they caught my attention and I was so interested in them. I started becoming obsessed with my teeth, constantly finding myself brushing and whitening them. The dentist office was my favorite place even though most teenagers hated it. My dentist had told my mom we should check into the orthodontist, so we made …show more content…
The teeth and smile look a lot better while performing better. Orthodontists deal with teeth, bone structure of the face and abnormalities of the jaw(“Orthodontists”). Their first task is to examine the teeth, jaw and facial structure of the patient. They locate the area that is not working together, sometimes taking x-rays and looking at their dental records. When they have a good understanding of the problem, the orthodontist will pick one or a couple of treatment plans like retainers, braces, and more to help fix the problem. As an orthodontist, they want to make sure the treatments they are recommending are suitable for the patient’s everyday life. Once the treatments are chosen, then the patient will be provided with the cost. The orthodontist will design and prepare the dental appliance exactly for the patient. The orthodontist assistant will clean the teeth and place the appliance, then the orthodontist will check it, adjust it and set it in place. There are usually more appointments made every so often to adjust the appliance; that way the teeth and jaw will move in the way needed. Treatments always have a certain amount of time and sometimes it will take longer than usual or less than usual. After it is finished, the orthodontist will remove the appliance and then the patient receives their final appliance, which is normally a retainer to hold the teeth in place("Responsibilities of an …show more content…
In the United States; $190,000 is the average annual salary for an orthodontist (“Orthodontist Salary”). If an orthodontist is located in a city with a high population and more businesses, they tend to make less money than if an orthodontist lived in a city with a smaller population and less businesses since there is less competition. In a bigger city, the cost of a building is a lot higher rather than in a smaller city. An orthodontist just starting out can make around $60,000 but as they become better known and build up clientele their salary typically will raise. A better known orthodontist will make more money since they know their patients better and have much more knowledge and experience. Orthodontist education and training play a role in their salary. The more training an Orthodontist has the more money they will receive in order to pay for the cost. Also after the Orthodontist graduates, if they continue their studying in order to keep up with new techniques and technology, the higher their pay will be. Working in state facilities will reduce their pay. Most orthodontists have a goal of opening their own practice, which brings in more money and more

...Orthodontist Orthodontists help other people have the perfect smile. An orthodontist is a dentist who specializes in how the jaws and teeth are aligned. They have the important job of helping people whose teeth are misaligned or require some kind of correction – those with an improper bite, or malocclusion. Gender Segregation

...one that assumes males in female dominated professions are pushed up the ladder to administrative and supervisory positions much easier and faster than women. Throughout the article, they explain the methods used to gather the data, both quantitative and qualitative and provide a plethora of information such as level of education, employment setting, number of years worked, personal interviews etc. They also break down the data and refute claims that although widely believed, may be false. It is somewhat ironic that the topic of this week’s thought-piece paper is on the sexual segregation of nursing. Just about a week ago I was sitting in the orthodontists office and I looked over at the staff photos on the wall. Dr. Pobanz was in the middle with about 10 ladies on each side of him. That made me go back and think, and I came to the realization that I have never seen a male besides the doctor working in a dentist or orthodontist office. Although it is not exactly a nursing position, it is a similar occupation and I would imagine has similar statistics concerning sex segregation. In my mind, it is just expected that most all nurses are female. It seems that back a few decades ago males were unheard of in the nursing field, but today they are becoming more common. It is interesting that this occupation is so stereotypical female that studies of this magnitude are...

This income amount in turn helps open their eyes to the type of job necessary to achieve that income and what amount of education is involved. It was a real wake up call for many of my students. ...picket fence, and dog in the backyard. We also want to be happy. These next few paths are ways I might be able to achieve both. I have many different possible interests when it comes to my future. I hope to attend a four year college, and after graduation attend graduate school. Having gone to small schools my entire life, I prefer a small school. I am looking for a school with a tuition under $30,000, but would not rule out schools that aren’t significantly over my budget. I am open to the thoughts of leaving home, yet I am not sure I would survive on my own. None of preferences are set in stone and I am willing to try and consider new possibilities. When it comes to careers and majors, I have considered becoming a pediatrician, orthodontist, pharmacist, or being an english major. After researching all of my options, I became even more interested in pharmacy. A pharmacist helps in the treatment of disease. They advise both doctors and patients about the dosages, interactions, and side effects of certain medicines and help people make decisions regarding which drugs to take. Pharmacists work at...

Personal Statement

...Subject: Successful Princeton Applicant Through all of my accomplishments and disappointments, I have always been especially proud of the dedication and fervor I possess for my personal beliefs and values. Unfortunately, it has often been difficult for me to remain outwardly firm and confident in a town where most people think alike and reject exceptions. Whenever I have expressed my position as a pro-life advocate, peers have badgered, accused, and ridiculed me for simply believing in something that they scorn. Despite all the pressure, I never waive red from my belief, yet I became frustrated and began to lose the courage to publicly express my opinion on this controversial topic. To gain some insight and reassurance for myself, I attended the New Jersey Right to Life Convention in the spring of 1995. This experience uplifted me and offered great inspiration and enlightenment. At the convention I received an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement from wonderful people who advocate the very principles I believe in. This convention was so inspiring that the next day in school I was able to relate my experience to one of my biggest opponents on the subject. Also, the abundant information available at the convention enabled me to defend my position on abortion more effectively. Attending this convention accomplished two things. It proved my commitment to my belief, in that I took the initiative to strengthen and support my opinion, refusing to give up or lose heart. Unlike...
