Page | 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Information Technology, which has evolved from the merger of computers, telecommunications and office automation technologies, is one of the most rapidly growing industries in the world. Software industry is one of the essential components of IT industry with global market of US $ 3,749 billion in 2014. It is still largely dependent on human resources and some of the developing countries are taking advantage of this opportunity. The present size of software industry in Bangladesh is very small. Only a few firms are involved in export of software and data entry services, and the total volume of revenue generated is negligible. We have identified the major problems which are impeding the growth of software industry and have made recommendations for their solution.
