...ACT THREE Stumped Many years later, Harmony’s twins, Faith and Mercy are now teenagers. The Otherside has spilt into two, the Bounded and the Freed. The Bounded are still stuck in the baby business, but the Freed have taken on a lifestyle outside of it. Faith is living in the Bounded and taking on the traditional role while Mercy left the bumping biz to live in the Freed. Faith has currently taken on a bump and Mercy has not stopped trying to get her to join the Freed. Scene 1: (Mercy along with her best friend Zeke are at her apartment, trying to get through to Faith to discuss the future.) Zeke: Did you read on the MiNet the latest story? Mercy: Who still uses the MiNet anymore, that’s such the Bounded thing? Zeke: Well if I were you I’d come look at this! Mercy: (with attitude she walks over to Zeke’s MiScreen) What is it? What’s so important that needs my attention this instant? (gasps) That’s not, no it’s not, FAITH! Zeke: Told ya. Mercy: But why, why would she sell her story to the press? She can’t. I just can’t believe her. I’ve worked so hard to get her to come here and she just let’s herself get pulled farther in. Zeke: Well c’mon Mercy I told you everyone would want the latest dish on the offspring of one of the world’s famous bumps and since you’re off the grid in the bounded she’s all they have left. Mercy: Well there is no reason why that baby should be born into those chains of society. She needs to get out and NOW! (Mercy brings herself to call Faith...

...the book that states how to get here, and do you want that?” Winterton ran his hand through his quickly greying hair. He took off his square glasses and through them on the control table as his boss walked out of the room and into the room across the hall that controlled another city in another part of that fake world. He scooted his chair up to the table. “Computer tap into the Equality Tower hologram,” he said into the microphone. “Would you like this to be live or for later,” the Computer replied. “Live.” “Please look into the camera on the right wall. The recording will be starting in 30 seconds.” As the timer started to tick, Winterton got up and locked the door, barricading it with the shelf in the back, quickly running to the otherside of the room with the camera. “Hello. I’m Ahren Winterton. The world you have all been living in is fake, it was created almost a century ago, it is currently 2050. The people before us created this world to see how you would react to books being burned and technology overtaking the world, well, your world. But all good things must come to an end, right? Please, if you hear this, make your way to the Equality Tower. Montag, there is a safe in the basement of the building the passcode is the address of building 9-5-1-0-1-3. There is a book, read it and follow every single step, word for word. You all must get out before 10 tonight or you all will be eliminated. Computer end hologram.” “Hologram has ended.” “Winterton what do you think you...

...So, Penn had its incoming freshman read Adam Bradley’s Book of Rhymes: The Poetics of Hip Hop as a means of generating discussion and bringing the class closer. We were prompted with the question, “Is hip hop art or entertainment?” Here’s what I wrote, including a really pathetic rap about the book. It’s kinda meh but I just wanted to share! So, Adam Bradley wrote a book about rap, But honestly I kinda thought the writing was crap, The book made me slap on my thinking cap, To analyze the crap that some consider rap. Messages conveyed are forgotten and delayed, We fail to realize what they sing’s a message that’s portrayed, Til we find ourselves surrounded by the movement that’s been made. I think it’s pretty cool that this year is Penn’s Year of Sound. I’m a very avid musician—a singer and a somewhat knowledgeable music theory student—and I firmly believe that music is the most powerful, and perhaps the subtlest form of communication. Adam Bradley spends much of Book of Rhymes: The Poetics of Hip Hop arguing the idea that hip-hop is mostly about the music, the sound surrounding the lyrics (I mean, he also spends much of the book expressing the same ideas over and over and over again, but I won’t get into that). Bradley expresses the idea that the music comes first, and the content comes second, and I found myself strongly disagreeing with the notion. To put it simply, hip-hop is indeed art. In order to make this assertion, however, you have to take a...

...| July 16, 1951 Books of The Times By NASH K. BURGER | THE CATCHER IN THE RYE By J. D. Salinger. | t is just before Christmas and 16-year-old Holden Caulfield has been kicked out of exclusive Pencey Prep, a boys' school in Pennsylvania. Considering everything, this reflects more credit on Holden than on Pencey. Life at Pencey is dreary, regimented, artificial and, of course, expensive. This happens, however, to be only the latest of a series of schools from which Holden has been expelled. Understandably he is in no hurry to encounter his parents, but he is also reluctant to linger a moment longer than necessary at Pencey. He therefore takes what money he has and departs for New York, where he passes several days in a weird jumble of adventures and experiences, is involved with a variety of persons including taxi drivers, two nuns, an elevator man, three girls from Seattle, a prostitute, and a former teacher from whom Holden thinks it best to flee in the middle of the night and most of all from himself. Holden's story is told in Holden's own strange, wonderful language by J. D. Salinger in an unusually brilliant novel, "The Catcher in the Rye." The Book-of-the-Month Club has chosen it as its current selection. Adolescence Speaking for Itself Holden is bewildered, lonely, ludicrous and pitiful. His troubles, his failings are not of his own making but of a world that is out of joint. There is nothing wrong with him that a little understanding and affection, preferably...

...Argument Should the age of drinking alcohol be lowered? One side would argue it should not be changed because people will start drinking at an even younger age. They would also say that more deaths among teenagers will occur by changing the law. Also, they would argue that teenagers are not responsible enough to be drinking at such a young age. The otherside; however, would say it should be changed because it would decrease the amount of teenagers drinking as a whole. They would also argue that it will help teenagers think less about partying and focus more on their school work. The drinking age should not be lowered to drink alcohol. The first problem that could occur by lowering the drinking age is people will start drinking at an even younger age. Now people in high school have partied and drank getting ready for the big twenty one, well what could be next, children in grade school? Teenagers are not able to make such decisions when they are under the influence of alcohol. When drinking you lose train of thought and some people do not remember the next morning. Therefore, Morleo explains “These individuals are at risk of a range of harms including violence and regretted/unprotected sex” (Morleo 1). This quote states that drinking alcohol at such a young age or even at all can make regrets and see things most young teens are not suppose to experience. Drinking alcohol is different for everyone; some people get mean while others get happy and nice. Even alcoholism could run...

...Jarrod Brown 11/17/10 Nevada Gubernatorial Race: 2010 Nevada, the home of the infamous adult playground Las Vegas was admitted into the United States of America under Abraham Lincoln in 1864. Admission into the union was rushed to help ensure Lincoln's reelection for his second term. The state held strong ties to big business and helped lead to Lincoln winning the election. The history of Governors in Nevada is split almost even with thier being only a handfull more republicans throughout history than democrats, and a handful of silver party members serving as well. Governors in Nevada are limited to serve two terms of four years each. The race for governor this year was never really a tight one as Brian Sandoval held the lead in polls throughout the race, it was still a competitive fight between Sandoval and Rory Reid. Much controversey did however make the republican nomination interesting. (Huffington Post 2) As time led to the primary elections the bid for the democratic nomination might as well have been uncontested. Rory Reid, Chairman of the Clark County Commission, only had an opponent by definition from Frederick L. Conquest. Reid the son of senate majority leader Harry Reid, easily took the win in the primary election becoming the democratic nominee and awaiting to see who would rise to face him from the complicated republican...

...A relationship and a friend is chosen by the connection they possess. The two characters a white man and a black man had become attached to each other in a racist society. The relationship which is the cause of a new friend being chosen as a person who knows likes, and trust is not judge as something planned, netherless as miracle that was meant to be. The move Adventures o Hucleberry Finn by Mark Twain, but his real name was Samuel Clemens, published 1884, has an example of how an unexpected Relationship began with two totally opposite people. As time passes,he wonders how society is going to act twards them. This is when conflict takes place and its course teaches individuals of different race, ages and how frendship, love and companionship could change how the mind body and soul work. In the adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck and Jim have diffrent diffrent coping with their socities beliefs about a relationship. As hard times began, Huck had to decide whether to take up for Jim while in a situation where Jim had no idea what was going on, and he didnt like it."Tom whispered to me that he wanted to tie Jim to the tree for fun. But,I said no I didn`t want him to stray."(Chapter Two-our Gangs Dark Oath)"(page 15)He didn`t agree with it and he felt it was inhumane Humanity would be lost for Jim and Huck as an associate protested. ...| | Panera Bread Company | The observation and analysis of a fast food restaurant | Panera Bread Company | The observation and analysis of a fast food restaurant | Background Information Rationale I chose to observe operations at Panera Bread Company (Panera) based on two factors: 1) I like the food and overall ambiance – I think Panera uses ingredients that are fresher and of higher quality than more traditional fast food restaurants. I also like that customers can sit down to eat using proper silverware and plates rather than using plastic utensils eating off of paper wrappers and plastic forks. Many Panera locations also have a patio, for al fresco dining, a cozy fireplace, for the winter months, and a small section with upholstered chairs and sofas. 2) Panera offers free Wi-Fi – this was an important factor because I wanted to take notes during each visit without bringing attention to myself. Because Panera offers Wi-Fi, it is not unusual to see customers with laptops. Visits I visited three different Panera locations over the course of several weeks and spent approximately 2 hours at each location. Location | Date and time of visit | Order Placed | | | | 5600 Urbana Pike | April 6, 2010 | Cuban Chicken Panini with chips as a side, an unsweetened iced tea and a Toffee Nut Cookie | Frederick, MD 21704 | 2:40 PM | | 136 Nassau Street | April 11, 2010 | Tuna Salad Sandwich (standard condiments replaced with Dijon mustard and...

...Subject: Successful Princeton Applicant Through all of my accomplishments and disappointments, I have always been especially proud of the dedication and fervor I possess for my personal beliefs and values. Unfortunately, it has often been difficult for me to remain outwardly firm and confident in a town where most people think alike and reject exceptions. Whenever I have expressed my position as a pro-life advocate, peers have badgered, accused, and ridiculed me for simply believing in something that they scorn. Despite all the pressure, I never waive red from my belief, yet I became frustrated and began to lose the courage to publicly express my opinion on this controversial topic. To gain some insight and reassurance for myself, I attended the New Jersey Right to Life Convention in the spring of 1995. This experience uplifted me and offered great inspiration and enlightenment. At the convention I received an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement from wonderful people who advocate the very principles I believe in. This convention was so inspiring that the next day in school I was able to relate my experience to one of my biggest opponents on the subject. Also, the abundant information available at the convention enabled me to defend my position on abortion more effectively. Attending this convention accomplished two things. It proved my commitment to my belief, in that I took the initiative to strengthen and support my opinion, refusing to give up or lose heart. Unlike...
