There was a free man that was determined to reveal the truth about the system of the slave trade, his name was Ottobah Cugoano. He was slave himself before earning his freedom, but once he was freed he used this to fight against slavery. Once he came to Britain he wrote about the slave trade system in 1787. Cugoano wrote about the slave trade to reveal the evils of it to those who would otherwise be ignorant to it. He wrote it to show the barbarous actions of everyone involved in the slave trade. Cugoano’s argument brings forth the mistreatment of the slaves that were captured and forced through this system. One example he uses is the fact that most slaves are stolen, not bought. Another would be the fact that families are separated from each other. Cugoano also wondered how these things could be supported under a Christian government. His evidence is genuine because he uses his own experiences as a slave that went through this system. He also uses facts about the slave trade to justify his argument against it.…show more content… His purpose for writing was to have people see his side of the argument and going against the slave trade. Although this is how Cugoano wanted people to view this argument I have a different assumption of how it was perceived. I believe his points are justified by the facts he presents for his side, but for the time that he is writing this I believe that this argument was likely ignored by those who could do anything about the slave trade. This was written in a time when people of African heritage were still seen as lesser so the argument Cugoano was presenting fell on deaf
