OVERCOMING CHALLENGES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF KENYA TRADENET SYSTEM BY KENTRADE
Introduction
The competitive business environment is rapidly changing, it is only flexible and dynamically developing companies that are able to meet competition, companies that have managed to reduce costs and improve business efficiency through the introduction of advanced information technologies (IT). The use of information technologies is a vital element of a company's strategy to succeed in an ever changing world. Current information technologies make it possible for companies to create information systems for effective communication and mutual understanding among staff members and stakeholders, as well as to support the decision making process at all levels of management. Information system (IS) should no longer be viewed in its traditional role, rather it should be used in terms of a strategic role for accomplishing IS based competitive advantages.
Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE) is a state Corporation under the National Treasury that is mandated to facilitate cross border trade and establish, manage and implement the National Electronic Single Window System as a Vision 2030 flagship project under the economic pillar.
The mission of KENTRADE is to facilitate international trade through the establishment and management of a National Electronic Single Window System (Kenya TradeNet System) for efficiency and global competitiveness”.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE) is experiencing slow implementation of the National electronic single window system. Stakeholders are not embracing the system and the manual process of clearance is still in place. Furthermore traders have to deal with multiple government agencies.
